Would just like to say that the verse from the Quran which explains God has blinded the people who refuse to look into the truth leaps to my mind after reading this thread. The funny thing is that after reading the posts here my faith has been doubly strenghtened, because your reaction is exactly what the Quran said a 1500 years back it would be. Where does the Quran say to kill the non-believers?? Its seems to be stressing the point that Allah is the one who will deal with them. One who wants paradise will also want the good of humanity, since that is the way to heaven according to all religions. A lot of evil in this world is brought about by people who dont believe in heaven or hell thus not giving a damn as to their behaviour on the planet. But the answer to your question can vary from person to person. According to religion, both will lead you to heaven.

A good post. Anyone who thinks all muslims are like the lunatics we hear from all the time is wrong, but that doesn't hide certain facts. And one of those is that as a religion it has far more angry, volatile, over the top and at times extremely violent reactions to any random slight they percieve. To challenge the view your religion is evil and hate filled by bombing churches, attacking a nun and holding mass protests round the world wanting the pope dead etc. because he mentioned some quote from years ago is just frightening! And that following on from attacks on all things Danish when they published some cartoons in a newspaper, and there are other examples which always result in mass angry protests. I hate all orgaised religions to be honest, but if somebody had come out and said the same comments about christianity you would probably have had a few priests on tv have a whinge and a few people getting mildly annoyed and probably not much else, particularly as the quote was from the bloody middle ages or soemthign like that! People who think all muslims are like that and think they are actually evil etc. would be morons, but anyone who doesn't think as a religion it has far more dangerous and over the top reactions than other religions and leads to more trouble these days are being naive. Islam does mean peace. Its Arabic acutally. And killing nuns and burning churches is not fundamental Islam(as somebody called it earlier in the thread) for heavens sake. If you people were to do a bit of research before trying to be clever and passing on cheeky comments you would know that kind of thing is completely prohibited by Islam and anyone who does it is not a muslim although he may call himself that. These people are not extremists or 'fundamental muslims', they are people who are using Islam as a cover up to carry out whatever evil ambitions they've got, and the world just seems to be falling for their plot. They may be muslims by name, but Islam does not mean anything to them, so they'll gladly use it for their own purposes. Please acutally try and do a bit of research on something before passing a verdict on it, you and a few others obviously know nothing about Islam and base your opinions on whatever you read in papers and watch on the TV. Now people blowing themselves up in Iraq/Afghanistan is somewhat different. They are desperate, weak and largely helpless muslims who are trying to fight an invasion. Also, a few bomb blasts here and there makes muslims ruthless killers, but facts such as the US wiping out 50 000 people in Japan with a single bomb or the estimate that 60000-180000 people(most of them innocent) have been killed by western forces in Iraq and afghanistan thus far dont seem to bother many people.

But if you look around very few people actually look to them for guidance now, I mean the elections caused something of a stir but that was about it. Just like the Queen gets a mention on her birthday but hardly anybody takes them seriously apart from that. Its not just happening to Christianity, the same can be said about Islam. Hundreds of millions of people call themselves muslims, but I'd say almost half of them arent true ones anymore. They change laws as they like and ignore ones that dont suit them. However Islamic leaders still hold reasonable power in their countries. Everyone seems to have their own ideas as to God and faith. Religion, priests, holy books all are becoming less and less popular.

Its not the muslim world, its some people that have been driven to desperation. The US and the west have been kicking around the rest of the world as they please, not just the muslims. The muslims, being week and largely helpless, have now resorted to these tactics in retaliation. The muslims are themselves partly to blame for this, they have lost pace in the world and are backward and thus cannot face the US and co. face to face. But the latter are wrong when thinking they have a holy right on the earth and can do whatever they please. That bred terrorism in the first place and the only way to stop it is accepting the muslims and other races as human beings.

The vatican is saying that the pope didnt intend to hurt muslim feelings. And that comes after the pope said" Prophet Muhammed has only brought evil and inhuman things into the world". Dont blame them much to be honest, the vatican holds little importance these days and the pope is simply there as a historical figure, like the queen.
