  1. We got relegated with 37 points. Sheesh. Wouldnt be surprised if the mackems survived with 30 this season. Unlikely I know but then again it would be just typical.
  2. Seems like we won ugly in the end but its another 3 points. Keep them coming. Grinding out wins is important in its own way, if this can be classified as that. Looks like we were wasteful in the first half.
  3. Yep. Its another Syria in the making. US backed Saudi led coalition targeting the shiite Houthi rebels who'd launched an offensive on the capital. They were perceived as being, and probably are, backed by Iran.
  4. The word jihad literally means to strive, not holy war. Thats an interpretation commonly used by the likes of ISIS and apparently widely accepted in the West as well for convenience. Which is why I've always been of the view people will use what they want for power. I blame the Saudis more than the West for problems in the middle east. Might also be relevant to keeping in mind the thread tite that more innocent civilians were killed in Yemen yesterday. But as has been explained to me previously that doesnt constitute terrorism or matter generally since they're in a shithole far far away.
  5. Its not about what the West created or didnt. Im talking about the debate we've previously had about whats at the root of all violence. Yeah thank goodness Europe and the rest of the world have not had any violence in that period. Are you referring to refugees as migrants?
  6. I love how regularly we seem to discuss the burka, quran and source of human violence and how fellows like Gloom and Renton still manage to start from square one everytime

  8. He was disturbingly sensible in the Syria thread the last time he came back so we cant count on that either.
  9. What was that line from the X men movie. I've been at the mercy of men following orders. I think people who can say that are the only ones who know what it can really mean.
  10. You lot still going on about this? You're still trying to explain that laying waste to an entire country is not always the best way of dealing with oppressive regimes Disturbing that the human lady candidate is so unhinged Trump actually looks like a safer candidate, in terms of foreign policy at least.
  11. Go on now, what happened to it?
  12. True. But at the very least fans were very vocal in what they thought about Ashley's ideas and his muppets like Pardew. And we had that 5th place finish which was fun. They've been utterly shit as long as anyone can remember, relying on the new manager effect to survive since God knows when. Not to mention the whole Johnson saga and how they handled that. Everything about the club is as classless as it could get and its about time they suffer for it.
  13. Completely get HF's point about that being a horrid table mind
  14. Streamlining workflows or improving economy across the board to make everything more efficient in the long term makes sense (including light bulbs I suppose ). And thats the category letting go of a few support staff at a football club should fall into. Remember reading somewhere that around 50% of club staff are part time anyway. You could get rid of all of them and the savings would pale in comparison to halving a single players wages over a year. You're right in that executives like fussing about staff costs, even if its a fraction of overall operational costs. It creates headlines and makes it look like you're doing something about a problem thats usually beyond them by that stage.
  15. The only effective cost cutting that would go on in a financially struggling relegated club would be sale of the better players/high earners and acquisition of new ones on far more reasonable wages
  16. Actually Im saying its not cost cutting really given how little difference firing a few admin staff would make
  17. Like has been said before its not really linked to relegation. Senior club management is probably panicking given their financial situation and pending relegation. They just want to be seen doing something. How much cost cutting would axing some admin staff achieve in the modern premier league club where a player sitting on the bench will be likely making more in a week than they will in a year? They're realizing they're screwed. Let the hapless arm flailing begin.
  18. The way we're set up away from home is a pretty good indication of how we'll be set up mostly next year I think. Considering we'll be underdogs in many matches and Rafa's traditional focus on defending first. Unless there's a dramatic squad overhaul we wont be bossing possession in the premier league.
  19. Decided to try wireless earbuds. Everest 100 by JBL. Very good sound quality, as long as you're not a fan of huge bass. A bit bulky at first but they fit in really well and you get used to it within minutes. Not exactly wireless I know but its still so much more convenient, especially when you're out and about. Looking to see how well the battery does, dont want to end up having another thing to charge everyday. I experienced huge latency issues with playing videos at first. A firmware update fixed it to a great extent but you can still notice that video and audio are out just a tiny bit if you concentrate which is annoying.
  20. Yes but with Rafa's counter attacking style you'd think he'd already be looking at setting up the team to be able to absorb pressure. Its more of a team job than relying on one defender to get you out of trouble. We would need defensive improvements without a doubt, LB especially in my opinion. But I think it'd be easier than finding a fast, powerful centre forward Parky was talking about who you need to be able to convert more chances than not. Still question marks on that over our current pair, at that level anyway.
  21. Its a fair point. You'd think we'd be looking to add a striker anyway with just Gayle and Mitro being the out and out strikers right now. Not counting Murphy for the premiership. Remains to be seen if Rafa opts to splurge out 20-30M on one to lead the line or puts his faith in these two and adds a backup option.
  22. I'd like to see what he can do in the premiership in a proper footballing setup that Rafa brings, with a decent season under his belt and reasonable service into him. Harsh to judge a 22 year old on the basis of last year, we were absolutely shite under a clueless coaching setup. Mind I was saying on another thread that consistency of Gayle/Mitro will be a big test for them next year with goal scoring chances at a premium.
