  1. Actor from 'Angel' dies at 33 of heart disease Andy Hallett, who made his mark playing green-skinned, good-guy demon Lorne on the TV series "Angel," has died of congestive heart disease. Hallett was 33. Hallett was taken by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after having problems breathing and died there Sunday, following a five-year battle with the heart condition, his agent Pat Brady said Tuesday. His father, Dave Hallett, was by his side. "Andy was the all-American boy from Massachusetts," Brady said. "He was a hoot. He was comfortable wherever he went. Girls loved him. He was a very gregarious, happy young man." Born and raised in Osterville, Mass., Hallett moved out to Los Angeles when he was 23 and worked as a messenger at a talent agency, said Brady. He went on to become an assistant to Joss Whedon's wife, Brady said. It was when Whedon saw the lanky Hallett perform karaoke that he had him audition for "Angel," a spinoff of Whedon's hit series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Hallett snagged the part of Lorne. Hallett proved himself a fan favorite on "Angel" as the show tune loving, red horned demon seer who runs the karaoke club Caritas and can read a person's aura when they sing, revealing their problems and futures. The series, starring David Boreanaz as the brooding vampire Angel, ran for five seasons on the WB network before it was canceled, ending in 2004. Hallett was diagnosed with his heart condition at the end of the show, said Brady, and had been in and out of hospitals for the past five years. He decided to concentrate on his own music, stepping away from acting. Hallett, an only child, is survived by his father Dave Hallett and mother Lori Hallett. ............................................................................... Probably not many on here will know of him. Only 33 R.I.P

  4. JOSE ENRIQUE has called for new blood at Newcastle United in order to avoid another relegation battle next season. The Spaniard is fully focused on tomorrow night’s big clash with Arsenal at St James’s Park, with the Magpies likely to find themselves in a relegation place before the game kicks off against Arsene Wenger’s side. However, the ex-La Liga star, like most Toon fans, feels that United will need new additions to their squad this summer if they are to get back to the business end of the Premier League. He added: “I hope the fans come back, but we need new players. “Both of my years have been the same – we have had too many injuries and not a big enough squad. “At times 10 or 11 have been injured. “You can’t play like that. You can’t expect right-backs to play in midfield and wingers to play at left-back or have a striker playing out of position, and it’s hard to ask young players to come in too. “We can’t have excuses for doing badly but the squad needs improving if we want to move on. “I think Newcastle will bring more players next season. “They are still a big team that I knew about in Spain because they played in the UEFA Cup and Champions League. “The last two years haven’t been good. “We need to climb the table.” Yet Enrique feels that despite United being written off in the game with the Champions League quarter-finalists, United can get something out of the encounter with the Gunners. He told the Chronicle today: “They are one of the best teams in England, and it’s a difficult test. “I still think we can win, though. “We showed against Manchester United we can compete with the best teams. “It’s no longer a case of we need to get something, we must get something. “And with our fans behind us we have a great chance.” Enrique feels that his run in the side has also enabled him to fully get to grips with the Premier League. He added: “It’s different in Spain – completely different to England. “But I have become accustomed to it. “It was hard for me at the start last year because it was a different team and a different club. “Now I know what the manager wants from me in games.” .................................... He added: “I hope the fans come back, but we need new players. no shit Sherlock!

  7. I've supported the toon since I was a wee lad in the late 70's, so even if we do go down, I'll still be supporting them. It don't matter what league we're in, Black and White flows through our veins, we'll still be there watching no matter what. I just can't stand the fact that when fatty bought the club, I genuinely believed that we would turn around and be challenging for trophies and even maybe the league! but like I said, my love for the club will never die! Born a toon fan, will die a toon fan! simple as.
  8. A little before my time, but still. RIP
  9. Put the fucking guitar down the next time you step on the scales - you'll be fine then.

  12. LETTERS are landing on the doormats of Newcastle United fans asking them to stick with the club. Toon managing director Derek Llambias has sent a personal message to fans who intend to cancel their three-year discounted season ticket deals asking them to stick with the club as he once again conceded the mistakes he and owner Mike Ashley have made. Mr Llambias insisted he understood why many supporters were weighing up whether to renew their tickets after another disappointing Premier League campaign. But he argued their continued support is vital if the club is going to move forward. Nevertheless, the letters also offer supporters who wish to get out of the contract they signed last summer an escape route, insisting it will be terminated as long as fans pay back the money they saved on this season’s ticket. Mr Llambias said: “We would urge every Newcastle United supporter to stick with us because they are vital to taking the club forward in the future and putting the disappointments of the last few months behind us. “Yes, mistakes have been made this season but the board remains fully committed to re-establishing Newcastle United as one of the leading teams in the Premier League. “I know how much you enjoyed seeing the club challenging at the top end of the table and competing in Europe on a regular basis and we all want to see that again. It may take a little time to achieve, but your continued support will be crucial in helping us get there. “We think this is the fairest way to do things if people do want to cancel their direct debits. We appreciate the economic climate has changed considerably for a lot of people and this is the compromise we have reached. “All we are asking for is that supporters pay back the money they saved on this season’s ticket when they signed up for the three years and we will terminate the contract.” Should fans not repay the money they saved last summer, the club have warned they will expect them to honour the obligations of the contract they signed and continue to pay by direct debit in accordance with the payment schedule. Steve Wraith, who runs the fanzine Players Inc, said the club’s stance could turn out to be a public relations disaster. “The problem the club has is that lots of fans took the three-year ticket option in the belief that Kevin Keegan would be around for that time,” he said. “The club were saying, basically, ‘come along for the ride’, watch as Keegan builds the new entertainers. But that didn’t happen. “NUFC could find themselves on a slippery slope and in a PR mess, although I’m sure they’ve checked out the legal implications. But is the bad publicity worth it for the few fans who want to cancel their season tickets?” Michael Ord, a committee member for the Newcastle United Supporters Club, said: “The club’s customer relations is very poor, and this is just another example. “When fans committed to a three-season deal for a discount, things looked very much brighter than they do now. “I think the reasons for not wanting to see through the three-year contract are two-fold. The product on the pitch is not good enough, and just like any business, if that is the case people will stop buying it. “Secondly, fans have always lived on the hope of improvement at St James’s Park. That hope is now extinguished for many. “The only remedy to that is for investment to be made in the team." ................................................. guess his arse is twitching like fuck at the thought of all the money he'll be losing!
  13. LONDON (Reuters) – The FA will take no action against Manchester United or goalkeeper Ben Foster for using an iPod during Sunday's League Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur, it said on Monday. Foster watched videos of Spurs players taking penalties on an iPod and then saved from Jamie O'Hara as United lifted the cup after winning the penalty shootout 4-1 following their goalless draw at Wembley Stadium. FIFA president Sepp Blatter has resisted the use of any form of video technology, especially to determine if the ball has crossed the goalline, for many years. But the idea of using an iPod as a tactical aid is new and not against the laws of the game. Former Premier League referee Graham Poll told the Daily Mail on Monday that using iPod technology "had the potential to exploit a loophole in the laws which should be referred to FIFA." An FA spokesman said: "What happened was not against the rules so we will not be investigating the matter further." Spurs were last involved in a penalty shootout a year ago when they lost to PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Cup. In that game, O'Hara fired a shot to the left of the goalkeeper and on Sunday he sent Tottenham's first penalty the same way and Foster saved. "Just before the shootout I was looking at an iPod with goalkeeping coach Eric Steele and it contained images of Tottenham's players taking penalties," Foster said. "They told me for Jamie O'Hara I should stand up and be strong and he would probably go the way he did. I have done a lot of research before but this is an innovation we have brought in at the club." .......................................................... Think this is cheating? or another case of those fuckers getting off without any penalty! (no pun intended)
  14. MICHAEL OWEN will stay at Newcastle this summer — according to his closest friend at St James’s Park. While many assume Owen will move on when his contract expires in June, Nicky Butt believes United’s skipper is ready to sign a new deal and remain in Toon. It is the first time anyone close to Owen has hinted that his long-term future may lie on Tyneside, with Manchester City mooted as his likeliest destination. However, Butt insists his optimism about keeping his long-time England team-mate at the club is not misplaced. “I still believe Michael will stay to be honest,” said Butt, who has himself just signed up for another year at Newcastle. “He’s obviously out of contract, so there’s virtually nothing to stop him from leaving, but it’s not like he’s going about saying: ‘I want to go here, I want to go there. “He’s happy here, he’s committed to Newcastle and he might shock people. Maybe he might stay here. “I just feel he’s at the club and he’s not unhappy. When players want to leave you can tell straight away. “Shay (Given) got to the point where it was time for him to leave — it was right for him. That’s the good thing . . . you don’t see that with Michael.” Owen’s publicly declared decision to put all talks over his future on hold until the end of the season was widely interpreted as further proof that he wanted out of United. However, Butt added: “When negotiations break down, everyone fears the worst. Everyone thinks: ‘That’s it, he’s gone.’ “But sometimes it’s a case of putting things to one side and getting the football out the way. “Hopefully that’s the case in this situation.” Who would want to stay here anymore? we're not the great club we used to be
