Those travelling to London on Sunday
Billy Whitehurst replied to Douggy B's topic in Newcastle Forum
"Special" innit To be fair, I'm a geordie and have lived in London for about 9 years. I absolutely love it and can't really see myself living anywhere else in the UK. That said, I can see why many people don't like the place as its all down to personal opinion. -

I thought the original poster asked for a decent boozer? I think we have established that Hamilton Hall is far from decent. Nobody is arguing with the fact that it is open early, a number of people have merely argued what a rubbish boozer your suggestion is. That fact that it is frequented by you and your chums merely backs our argument up. By all means keep waiting though. -
true but it only needs someone getting forward with a football brain to slide balls through to owen and martins thats something we don't have atm If we are going to persist with three in the middle then I'd be inclined to stick Jonas in there. I thought he made a big difference when he came on at the weekend. Not sure he could play in a midfield two though as he needs licence to roam a little.

For someone who spawns from a town who thinks gormet dining is a Greggs and a pint of Broon I find this kind of hard to take. The score is simple, if you want to drink before the game, go to HH, if not dont. True, sadly. As crap as it is, you'll struggle to get a pint elsewhere round there before noon. -

In enough time to sink 3 pints before going to the match. Clearly never drank with a geordie. 3 pints, is that all? clearly never drunk with a y!d bet you mate get down there and its closed. No, they all drink in souless sh!tholes like the Hamilton Hall. Well I tell you what, you go and enjoy the ambience waiting outside your little pub in shoreditch (ST) and I will enjoy a few pints with a bunch of like minded football supporters. Enjoy the tapas. Like minded to you? Thats basically everyone reading this thread crossing off the Hamilton Hall from their list. Has been crossed off my list for a long time. I work nearby, the place is consistently full of numpties, none more so than the Leeds fans in there last week. -

He only said you didn't know London. And you did recommend a Weatherspoons pub tbf. 2+2=4 tbh. And no, I'm not coming down for the game. A terrible Weatherspoons at that. Still, probably better to have a pint in there than near the ground, what a sh!thole. -

Loads of good boozers around there, plus you are right next to Shoreditch also. The Water Poet and the Commercial Tavern are both within 5 mins walk of Liverpool St and the aforementioned Golden Heart is also good. Hamilton Hall is awful. To be fair to Danny, it does open early but you get a strange crowd in there. -
Official Match Thread: Stoke 1-1 Newcastle United
Billy Whitehurst replied to JawD's topic in Newcastle Forum
My take on the "classic" Wimbledon side was that their aim was to get the 90 mins over with as quickly as possible with the least possible time for the other team to try and play football - that attitude lives on with Stoke imo (as well as Bolton under Allardyce). Its true, against good footballing sides the longer they can have the ball out of play the better for them and reducing the game to dead balls kicks and throw ins is a good way of time wasting. Not that we are in any way a good footballing side, but i think with even half those 10 mins back we might have created a chance, you never know! we had 1 shot on target before carrolls header, I wasn't holding my breath for a 2nd until the goal went in Well, shite as we were (and by god we were bad!) we did have the odd chance, Owen had maybe a halfchance with a header, there was Owen's pullback into the box which i think a defender cleared for a corner and if Shola was anything but shite he would have chested the ball and had a great chance in the box first half and a volley/half volley in the box second half. I just wish one of Shola's had fell to Owen instead! I'm sure the stats at the end of the game had us as 8 shots on goal, 2 shots on target, 1 goal which for 95mins against a team like stoke is shocking to be fair Its totally shocking i agree, just if Shola wasn't shite there would be two more on target there and one at least a goal! But terrible as he is, if we go down this season its mainly about midfield creativity and home games against shite teams where we've lost points. Very true, in my opinion, central midfield has been our weakest position for a good few years. The problem is, with Nolan and Guthrie going into hiding, it is left to Butt to try and provide that creativity which clearly isn't his game. His pass completion percentage on Saturday was even worse than usual. As pish as he was, at least he wanted the ball and tried (albeit unsuccessfully) to create something. We desperately need some competent central midfielders. -
Yet he offers more than Nolan. Nolan was utterly anonymous on Saturday, the amount of times he touched the ball must be in single figures.

Training Session --- Live coverage
Billy Whitehurst replied to Christmas Tree 's topic in Newcastle Forum
It's from the Guardian's daily footie round-up 'The Fiver' which is generally pretty funny and takes the piss out of everyone and everything so is nothing to get upset about. We (and rightly so) get the piss taken out of us a lot but it is generally light-hearted. This one was written by Barry Glendenning however who is a bit of a humourless twat (as anyone who followed his letters to True Faith will realise). The Fiver is generally funnier than this, particularly when Glendenning has nothing to do with them. -
I love the picture of the original action man getting stuck into the barbie dolls "in happier times".

Morton v Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup (I think) in the mid 90s. It was 3-3 at full time with Billy Dodds having scored a hat-trick for Aberdeen. Aberdeen ending up winning 7-3 after extra time and Dean Windass scored all 4 extra time goals. He was still fat back then.

Recently back from a holiday in Argentina. Went to see River Plate v San Martin Tucuman a couple of weeks ago, unbelievable atmosphere. Also went to see Instituto AC Cordoba v AC Chacarita Juniors in the Argentinian 2nd division and Ossie Ardiles trotted onto the pitch as the half-time guest. The local fans didn't seem to like my suggestion that despite scoring a belter in Escape to Victory, he was still a pish manager.

Everyone other than Escape To Victory! ...and Shaolin Soccer. Gregory's Girl. Gregory's Girl was quality. In my opinion, the best football in a film was Brian Glover in Kes - utter genius. -

Decent interest rates to encourage saving, anyone? (I know, I know, it's not that simple...) It's not that simple but it's still a good point. We're in this mess due to massive overleveraging. However, those of us didn't do this and saved are now being fucked over with almost non-existent interest rates. -
Steve Bleasedale is on the list too. Does anyone remember him from 'Big Ron Manager'? What with his potty mouth, and tactical ineptitude, he seems the ideal man to deputise for JFK.

Completely agree with you on this, smug and tedious. I also like Ginola for what it's worth. Not entirely sure of the need for the snidey subject title either. As far as I can see, he is saying that, as socialists, the French are understated about their cash and don't like to throw any wealth they may have in your face. The Brits, however, are flash gits who like to spunk their cash on things like Bentleys. So understated socialists or Keiron Dyer types? Vive la France for me!

If it's not on Sky then a good bet is The Famous Three Kings which is right next to West Kensington tube. They have all the overseas satellite channels. It may be worth phoning ahead to see if they are showing it.

Exactly, let's face it French and Scottish football isn't much better than glorified pub leagues To be fair, Lyon would hammer us. -

Fairly sure that Jonas will be able to play on Sunday. I think that for 5 bookings the ban doesn't start until 7 days after (whereas for a red card or two yellows in one game the ban is immediate) so that will mean he can play on Sunday. I think that is true but I could be talking shite.

True, but why let common sense get in the way of our transfer plans? It certainly didn't in the last transfer window.
