  1. Can we please have a Sunderland thread where only Essembee is allowed to post? It will just be him shouting into the ether about taking the Fulwell end, the drink driver, and people spitting on Darren Bent’s mam. I’ll be honest, I’d read it.
  2. Disappointing not getting another attacking player in but we have strengthened a lot more than Burnley, Watford and Norwich have. We only need to finish higher than three other teams. The back four is definitely more solid and Guimaraes should really help with the spine of the team.
  3. He might find it challenging to understand the locals, or just how rife the sectarianism is, but he could probably play in roller skates and still be the best player in that league.
  4. Isn’t Kitson meant to be an utter cock? A wannabe hard man from what I’ve read. Almost certainly supports those fucking mutants.
  5. Guimaraes is some signing mind, he is an absolutely belting player. I can’t believe he is signing for us. Good times ahead if that is the sort of player we’re signing.
  6. I’ll have to take your word for it. Congratulations to any of you who managed to get past the c.8 second mark when he said “be a legend and click on subscribe”.
  7. To be honest, I’m surprised Gemmill has come back given how willingly he dropped his knickers for his new chums over there. Shameless.
  8. Well done Andrew, great effort! As the others have said, I’m sure there’ll be a fair few of us ready to chip in for the running costs.
  9. Have just seen the Saint-Maximin penalty shout. How the fuck didn’t VAR overturn that? I know it didn’t cost us in the end but that is dodgy as fuck.
  10. Man City’s transfer policy is generally pretty sound. When they feel they have a need to strengthen a position then they buy for that position (and try to have two players for every position), unlike say Man Utd’s approach. They haven’t bought many duds so their transfers are well researched. They also make a decent amount through sales (Sane and Torres for example) and are able to do that because Guardiola is excellent at improving players. The way they have structured their club, and how they do business, is something we should aspire too rather than a Galactico approach.
  11. I agree with some but not all of it. If you consider what is happening with NEOM, which is essentially going to be a brand new $500bn city (granted a lot of this will be funded by external debt), the investment in Newcastle is an absolute pittance, so I have no doubt it is a vanity project or sports washing even. To have the chairman of PIF so visible in what is a miniscule investment for them shows this. In addition, all billionaire owners have other investments, that’s how they became billionaires. It just so happens that our owners are absolutely filthy rich compared to paupers like Abramovich and Kroenke. I’ve worked with the Saudis a lot in my job and they see themselves as being very much superior to the likes of UAE and Qatar so will not be content to have a vastly inferior football club to Man City and PSG. I don’t see any other way of them running it other than spending to compete with these clubs. I also don’t think they’ll be held back as much as people think by FFP and related parties’ sponsorship. You just have to look at how the governing bodies shit themselves, whenever Man City unleash their lawyers, to see that. I think this is why I’m one of the few still in the dry sheet brigade. I think we’ll bring a few players in before the end of January and I also think there is a more than 50% chance of us going down. That doesn’t worry me too much as we’ll have a belting time in The Championship and build from there. We’ve signed an established England international and are being linked with centre halves from one of the top teams in Spain and forwards from top teams in Italy. When they first took over, Man City’s owners were signing the likes of Bridge, Bellamy, Given, de Jong, Barry, Lescott etc, the sort of players to start building a solid team around before upgrading with the likes of Toure, Silva, Agueri etc, who then brought them trophies. Anyway, I’m even boring myself now but for all the shite we’ve had to put up with over the years, let’s just enjoy it and not get too worked up if things don’t happen in the immediate near term.
  12. Yes, hopefully you’re right as what you’re saying makes sense in terms of how few goals Sevilla have conceded. As you say, he has to be an improvement on Lascelles, Clark, and Schar as none of those would get anywhere near Sevilla’s first XI.
  13. This Carlos sounds a bit like a Titus Bramble tribute act. Given all the mistakes he makes at a team near the top of the league (where his team is doing more attacking than defending), what’s he going to be like when we go one nil up and then immediately switch to our Battle of the Alamo plan B?
  14. Yes, you’re right, we’ll have far more resources to come straight back up this time. Not that we’ll need them as the standard of The Championship is just as shite as it was back then.
  15. That’s what everyone said the last two times we went down. Parachute payments as some Saudi sponsorship deals will see us through.
  16. And that shite will still be a cut above the dross down there. Lascelles looked like Baresi the last time we were down there.
  17. What’s the worst thing that could happen? We go down and then batter the fuck out of everyone else in The Championship next year (which we will as the standard of The Championship is fucking woeful). It might set us back a year or two but we’ll still be on the right trajectory. We’ve had nothing to look forward to for years so let’s not all get too down about it. The majority of us on here are middle aged bastards who have had the hope beaten out of us over the years. We just need a bit of patience.
  18. Right, so who is still with me in the dry sheet squad? Inexplicably, we’re still in with a chance of staying up, time left in the transfer window and, worst comes to worst, battering teams in The Championship will be brilliant next year. We’ll just need another yellow away kit. Keep the faith!
  19. Right, what’s the status with the bed wetter brigade? Have you all put your incontinence pants on now or are we expecting another hissy fit tomorrow if we haven’t signed Franz Beckenbauer by lunchtime?
  20. Sign me up to the dry sheet brigade. It’s still early days and we only have to play twice before the transfer window closes (yes, I know they are against teams in and around us). Better to get the right players in for the final 17 matches than shit our pants and panic buy the latest Cacapa/Riviere.
  21. I tested positive on lateral flow (including confirmatory PCR) for 14 days straight. I had no symptoms at any point but sort of isolated in our loft room for the first 7 days and wore a mask/rubber gloves around the house. After 7 days, due to childcare issues, I stopped isolating (although stayed at home) in the house. Neither my wife nor my two daughters (5yrs and 2yrs) caught it. Therefore, it is possible but I’ve heard of so many cases of household transmission that I suspect we were the exception rather than the rule.
  22. I’m sure it has been said on here before but “Gone Fishing” is great. Apple TV+ has some decent stuff too (For All Mankind, Foundation, Invasion, Defending Jacob, Ted Lasso). And for the record, Seinfeld is fucking shite.
  23. You may have had it without knowing. I’m on my 9th day of testing positive without symptoms, getting boring as fuck.
