As much as it'd be nice I just can't see him coming to us - it's the same old story how everyone knows our manager isn't good enough, a decent one becomes available but Shepherd won't budge because he's a stupid, fat imbacile with no idea on what's needed to run a football club. People need aspirations - without them they remain disenfranchised from the society they dis-respect and make worse. The enfranchisement of the working classes into the political system in the 19th century was all about keeping people in order. Needs a modern solution though. Which is? There's a fundamental lack of respect for other people in 21st century Britain and it's getting worse as far as I can see. You don't get this shit in Singapore! True, there's plenty of other countries that don't have this problem because they still have an element of respect throughout their societies. We've lost ours and it'll be a damn site harder to get it back unless all these stupid laws protecting criminal's rights etc are ditched. Me and a mate had a great idea for dealing with all the illegal immigrants and alleged asylum seekers we get coming in to the country, a show like The Running Man where if the contestant gets through they gain entry to the country - I don't see why a similar show wouldn't work for some of the worse charvas. Would be great tele on a Friday night, would be an adequate threat to help drum in to the scum that their actions could lead to their demise. Saying that I'd rather just round them up and shoot them like someone else said, back to the same old problem though as to how do you identify them successfully without picking up random innocents... still, the need of the many outweigh the need of the few and all that jazz

Our troops should have a no surrender policy, if the Iranians had then been stupid enough to try and start something it'd have caused armed conflict of a bigger scale and they would have lost. I doubt they'd have been as eager to try it on for a poxy media stunt if they thought there would be any serious come back on their actions.

I think the whole thing's shown the British forces as a bit soft and stupid sadly. Firstly the hostages shouldn't have given the Iranians anything other than their name, rank and number. Secondly this whole business of the ex-hostages selling their stories is a joke, treating it like some sort of compo is even worse! Military personnel are paid a wage and take up the job knowing the risks, if they think they should be getting compo then they shouldn't be doing the job in the first place. War and confrontation isn't a soap opera it's serious, putting our personnel in the media admitting they were scared etc makes our forces look weak.

Tbh the way I see it Rodent has the same problem with Newcastle that McClaren has with England, neither are big enough to handle today's professional footballers and neither has adequate tactical knowledge for the level of football they're managing in.

Someone's just told me Nugent is out of contract in the summer but any club wanting to sign him will have to pay compensation to Preston, is this right? Surely he'd be worth a punt for a couple of mil or whatever the compo would be (doubt it'd be much)? He looks like a poacher as much as anything which is what every team needs, some of the best strikers in the world are the ones who nick the goals inside the box... not that I'm saying he's one of the best in the world like but it's worth considering.
