What does R A Softlad have to say about all this then?

What if Newcastle can't wait past tomorrow and withdraw their 17m bid? Doesn't that mean that Real will then keep him OR accept the next highest bid of maybe 7m from Liverpool? That seems to be Liverpool's game as far as I can see. Newcastle need a striker quick and can't wait until the very last minute only to be told "sorry, but fuck off" by Owen. Hence the deadline. If not tomorro, then we move on. L'pool then swing in a 7m pound bid (or even a loan request - it doesn't matter now that no-one else is in the running)and since Madrid has already told Owen they would "help him move if he wanted" - he'll insist on L'pool and there you go! Unless we play the ultimate in brinksmanship and look for backup whilst simultaneously leaving the 17m bid on the Real table - I can't see us winning in this case.

Can I be the first to say: Wanker! 18159 Can I be the first to say: Friday, half three?

You make your own luck. We've won what, 5 in the last 27 we played? Its not as if we shouldn't see our matches this new season in an isolated context, you know. In fact, a large majority of us were willing to give Souness a chance last season cos he was "in transition" and therefore should've improved the squad/team spirit/morale/whatever in the summer when he could rebuild on his own terms. Well he had his summer. Our shit run continues, and in fact, we're shittier than ever. Of course it all boils down to that Fat Fool in charge, but if it was any other decent manager in charge, I'll bet that we would have done better with the squad we've got than what the results are currently showing.

Well, makes for a better craic here, at least!

Get ready for tomorrow's thread: "Owen Rules Out Souness Deal"

In addition to that, we can kiss goodbye to any prospective signings now. One point in three matches with an impending loss to Manure on the weekend. Three goalless matches for our "strike force". A manager, who, if he signs Luque/Anelka/Owen/Thomert whoever, will most likely be sacrificed on Monday. Who will want to touch us with a barge pole under such circumstances? I'd say, get rid of Souness now while there are seven days left in the transfer window. Get a new manager in ASAP. Spend some dosh on one or two who are fans of the new guy and are able to be conned into "spearheading a St Jame's Park Revolution". Accept thus that this season will be another "transitional year". It will happen sooner or later. I'd prefer sooner. But I'm no Freddie Sheperd.

The club and the team is broken, that's all I can say. Broken to the point where I could barely watch what was going on after Lee Clarke came on the pitch (oh for f**k's sake Lee Clarke?). I could sense it in the body language of the players on the field (except Parker and Bowyer). Walking about like they couldn't give a toss. Ameobi was dreadful. Carr couldn't keep a ball inside the line, plus he left his position wide open almost all the time. The rest of the lot may as well not have been on the field. I don't know how many optimistic fans there are left now after watching last night. I get the impression that the team's morale is at rock-f**king-bottom to the point where the only hope of reform is with a nuclear device. As much as I don't really blame Souness as much as the Chairman for this circus we'd had to put up with, the fact remains that the manager has to go. It's Gullit - Robson all over again. A new, good, savvy manager coming in will see the boys work hard to get noticed and in the short-term, see us play some football which will move us up the table a bit. I can't believe that all hopes of a "top-6" finish are well and truly out the window in my estimation. I'd be happy for mid-table mediocrity. Oh, and if I were Michael Owen watching the match to get a 'feel" of my team-mates - I'd f**king beg to stay on the Real Madrid bench. Rant over.
-
Somehow I get the feeling that Souness is gnashing his teeth now about the lack of movement and FFS is patting him on his back, giving him an indulgent leer and saying - "Don't worry boyo, this is all part of negotiation, eh? They'll bring their price down, you'll see." It reminds me of that episode of Seinfeld when George rejects the NBC deal out of hand and when Jerry acts up, George was going "Ooh, I'm shaking... I'm shaking...". We'll probably end up with no-one, leaving a trail of half-signed-could've-beens as a mark of our ambition while we battle relegation. Outstanding.

Good player, but the hypocrisy of going after him is simply staggering, even for Souness. Just wondering why people think Souness can manage Anelka? Spats with the bench isn't something Souness is able to cope with, is it? At least when the player is smaller than him, that is. Also wondering why people were so keen to back Souness in getting rid of Bellamy for his outburts and yet are keen to have a player here to appears to be openly worse. 12248 Really makes you wonder about where Souness got his earlier information about Anelka having had his "head sorted out" innit? Much as I'd desperately like to see a striker, ANY striker come in at this point in time, an Anelka-Souness soap opera will likely end in tears.

...When he's manager at Blyth Spartans or Trabzonspor presumably...

That's not a haiku though 10582 Trying my best buddy. Limerick, anyone? There was a chairman from Newcastle Who thought buying new players a hassle He said “Wait and see,” “Owen’ll come here for free” And thus f**ked the Club right up the assle. Yes, it IS rather slow at the office. Why do you ask?

I got one too. All of NUFC's fortunes in a haiku... Wanker Chairman Wanker Manager Alan Shearer leads the line still Great, fast-loading new forum. Love it.
