Aye, I admit myself, going to the games have seemed like a chore for quite a while now, although when it's the summer you miss it. But, I'm well up for this now. I just hope we come through the internationals OK. As someone said the other day, it would be just our luck if Owen went and broke his leg or something against Northern Ireland.
-
Ah, sorry - missed that one. I'm sure that most mackems don't feel that way - in the same way that most sensible Newcastle supporters probably wouln't want to see Sunderland go bust. Its too much fun watching them in the deep end, wondering whether they are drowning or waving! 26849 Exactly. I wouldn't wish it on them, because who would we have to take the piss out of? Boro? Ha! It's nowhere near the same. That's something us and the Mackems agree on. It's us and them. Boro is the annoying, attention seeking kid jumping around on the sidelines who want to be involved, but are largely ignored, apart from the occasional insult because they're annoying.

I can't wait. After Bolton away my brother said he was looking forward to missing the Fulham game, as he's away to New York for a week. He's a bit gutted now though.
-
Yes, doesn't stop the media continually jizzing over it as if its one of the greatest cities in exisitence though! 26377 I like London. I like going down there every now and then, but I wouldn't want to live there. It's overcrowded, polluted, dirty and expensive. A lot of London are absolute dives that make Scotswood and Elswick look like Hampstead.
-
Aye. He's an idiot, so if it means he won't be gracing us with his precence - hurrah! It's his loss, not ours.
-
Yes, I suppose I am 'Pleasently Suprised', albeit a year late.

I can't quote what he said, but he was on SSN a little while ago, and he didn't have much of an argument thought. He was just saying along the lines of Newcastle have spent loads on Owen and if NUFC aren't making the Top 4 it would remind him of what happened at Leeds. This bloke was a Scouser. It goes against everything I've heard. There have been people in the media saying such things, but whenever I've heard this being discussed on the Radio (the last time was a few days ago on Radio 5) and they've had Football Finance experts on, the experts have said pretty much the same thing. That it isn't too much of a danger, as Newcastle's finances have been secured in entirely different, and much safer ways. So, does this guy have a point, or is it another bitter Scouser?

Listening to and reading the comments of Liverpool fans over the last couple of days, it strikes me that they are very bitter. Despite it being denied that there is a clause in Owen's contract which would allow him to leave next summer, many Liverpool fans still believe he is using NUFC to secure his World Cup place, and will return to Anfield following the World Cup. I don't think that Michael Owen has anything to worry about in terms of his England place, as he has more than proved he is worthy of it. Eriksson has also said that Owen would always be involved, regardless of whether he was at Newcastle, Liverpool or opted to stay at Real Madrid. I think that Liverpool fans believed that they were getting Owen. I think they assumed the deal would be done, one way or another, and now that it hasn't happened they are very angry and very bitter. They are also probably scared at the thought of him being at another Premiership club and scoring against them. Shepherd has denied the get out clause exists, and reading some comments, some of them think Shepherd is bluffing and that there is really a clause. Personally, I don't see that. Freddy Shepherd has done some stupid things in his time, but if this was the case, it would rank as perhaps the most idiotic thing he's done, and despite everything, I don't think he would be stupid enough to do that. If that clause was there, I think he would have said so. Those Liverpool fans who've kept their heads over this seem to accept that this is a genuine four year contract with Newcastle United, no get out clause. Of course, if things didn't go well and a good offer was submitted, then he may move on. If things are going along OK, I don't think it would happen. Michael Owen has always come across as being a professional, straight-forward, honest person. Yes, of course he would have prefered a move to Liverpool. Given his previous links there and what they did last season compared to us, that is only natural, and I believe that most Newcastle supporters accept and understand that. But for whatever reasons, he didn't go to Liverpool. HE CHOSE TO LEAVE REAL MADRID AND COME TO NEWCASTLE. Maybe he wasn't first choice at Real, but he would have still been involved regularly and would get plenty goals for them, but he decided that a move to Newcastle would suit him more, because he wants to play as much as possible. He's a Newcastle player and he says he'll give 100% for us and score goals, and going on his character and his career so far, you can't argue with that. If things are going OK, he'll be here longer than a year. There's a lot of Scousers eating their fill of sour grapes. They need to get over it and their attitude that Liverpool do not have a devine right to Owen.

Fantastic! Welcome back Nobby!

I haven't been able to get on over there for days.
-
It was a mad storm that one. The sky was completely black. Wasn't effected too much. The sky went off for about half an hour, but that's it. The thunder and lightning was mental. When it was right overhead it sounded like a bomb had gone off. The rain here was nowhere near as bad as the storms earlier in the summer. That one turned my back lane into a river, and was seriously threatening to flood the yard and kitchen.
-
Yeah, we could. Because he's unsigned we could do that. We did it last year with Ronny Johnsen. I'd love to see Bernard back at SJP. Much better than stupid Babayaro.
-
Howay, get it signed! My Brother was on the phone to his mate who's a Villa fan earlier. They're not happy.
-
Yes, of course we have, but as that money hasn't been recieved, it does make it easier though. 24768 How? 24774 From a cash flow point of view it does make things a bit easier. 24777 That's exactly it.

Bitter

Mr Bronson was class. He was a total idiot, but that's what made him class. That guy was also Herr Grunwald on Auf Wierdersehen Pet as well, where he played a German Mr Bronson type character.
-
Yes, of course we have, but as that money hasn't been recieved, it does make it easier though.

Something, I'd forgotten about, but the Sports bloke on Look North has just said that Newcastle will pay Real Madrid less than £16m, due to the money Real owe NUFC for Woodgate. Makes sense, so I suppose we haven't forked out as much as people think, and with that £8m recouped from Jenas going to Spurs, it's really not that bad.
-
Overpaid horribly? Well Jenas has gone to Spurs for £8m this morning, so that's half the money back already. If we'd paid £8m for Owen that would be a very good deal. Even if we get Solano today, that's £1.5m, so it would maybe make it £9.5m for Owen. Still a good price. The London press have it in for us. They always have, and will use anything as an excuse to put us down. We play badly, they put us down. We play well, they'll find something to nitpick at. If we sign good players, it's a bad move and won't work out well. It's sour grapes, because they'd love Owen to have gone to Arsenal or Chelsea or Spurs, or to Man U. These were not options, failing that they wanted him back at Liverpool. This hasn't happened. How dare he sign for Newcastle! It's just the way it is I'm afraid. I'm sure we can live with it though.
-
I thought about going along to St James', but the thought of loads of over excited bairns and charvers put me off a bit. Besides I wouldn't mind seeing the actual press conference.
-
I bet people will use that 'Michael Owen scored a goal - Hallelujah' one Liverpool used. I always thought it was a bit naff though.
-
Better than 'Owen's coming home' FFS - no he isn't. That'd be if he had gone to Liverpool, or Everton - although saying that, Tranmere or Chester would be closer.

Les Ferdinand. What a front two that was. That season they were together, they absolutely terrorised defences. Teams were shit scared of those two together.
