  1. I have a nasty feeling we're going to get well and truly knacked. NUFC 1-4 Arsenal
  2. Not too shabby eh? Sweden toughest game, haven't beaten them since 1968. By the time we play them both us and them should have qualified, but it will probably decide first and second place. If we finish second the chances are we'd end up playing Germany in the Second Round, and I'd prefer not to. That said, we can do Sweden. And to get a bad joke in before the tabloids. England v Trinidad and Tobago in Nuremburg is surely a trial for them.
  3. That's definitely a good thing. Transport them all there, close all routes in and out of Sunderland off and make it a Charver ghetto/Escape from New York style prison.
  4. Dennis Skinner is class! People go on about that Tory oaf Boris Johnson, but some of the old school labour MPs like Dennis Skinner are better because, they're saying things that a lot of people agree with.
  5. Probably in Swindon! 66040[/snapback] I was just about to say that.
  6. By all accounts, some bookies are taking bets on several mangers all returning to former clubs all before Xmas. As follows: Souness to return to Rangers Keegan to return to Newcastle Redknapp to return to Portsmouth Hoddle to return to Southampton
  7. The course party last year was shockingly bad. Some of us were going to organise something, but got told not to because the lecturers were putting something on for us. So we went along, and it was just in one of the rooms. No music, no food, no beer. Just red wine (which I hate) and cheap white wine (which I hate). It was complete and utter crap. It was the same night as we were at home to Sporting Libson in the UEFA Cup, and I hadn't got a ticket because I was going to the party instead, so that made me canny pissed off. I made my excuses and left to go home and watch the game on the telly. Some of us went out a couple of days later for a Chinese and a few drinks to sort of make up for it, but we were cheated. This year one of the lasses on the course is organising something. I'm not quite sure where were going, but it's a £5 deposit, £12 in total and there's a mini bus is going to take us around various bars and get us in or something.
  8. Here's my main ones. My others are shite. EPIPHONE LES PAUL '56 GOLDTOP with Gibson 'Soap Bar' Pick Ups (1999) I bought this one in January 2000 with some of the money I got for working double, triple and quadruple time over that Christmas and New Year. YAMAHA FG-160 (1969) This one used to be my Mam's. She bought it from new with her first full time wage packet. She gave it to me about ten years ago when I was 16. because she has arthritis and finds it hard to play steel stringed guitars (she plays nylon stringed classical style guitars nowadays). It's a bit scratched these days, but it still plays well. FENDER PRECISION BASS STANDARD (MEXICAN SERIES) (2002) I started messing about on Bass about 4 years ago, and got myself this about 3 years ago. I paid £140 for it from the bassist in my dad's band. They're about £300 new and this one was only 3 months old when I bought it. Apart from that I've got my first two guitars, which are a bit crap. My first one was a Black Les Paul copy called a Satellite. I bought it from a shop in Wallsend for £15 when I was 15. It sounds horrible. I've also got a Maroon Fender Stratocaster Squier, which I got when I was 18. It needs a load of work doing to it now, and once I got my Les Paul, I hardly used it. Its been ages since I bought any now, but I will do at some point. I'll either get a Stratocaster, Telecaster, Mustang, Jaguar or maybe a Casino or something. And then of course there's basses. I've had my eye on a Musicman Stingray, and you can get them for about £700 now.
  9. Several good places in Newcastle. Windows, Central Arcade Sound Control, Mosley Street (by the junction of Mosley St/Grey St/Dean St) Guitar Guitar, Newgate Street Shopping Centre Sound Explosion (I think that's what it's called, but I could be getting confused with the band of the same name), Dean Street (next door to Marco Polo Restaurant) Also, I forget the name. Something like Newcastle Music Centre (new & used), Westgate Road (opposite Tyne Theatre)
  10. Dear God. That was awful. We lost against an awful side. I'm sure you all know that, in fact if you watched it on Telly you'd have had a better view than I did. I'd forgotten how much of a hovel Goodison Park is. F*ckin awful, tatty, outdated, shitty views. Liverpool (the city) gets worse everytime I go there. I can't think of another British city that looks as desperate, tatty and grim. The things about burnt out/derelict buildings and entire rows of boarded up houses really are no joke. Honestly, there's nowhere in Newcastle as bad as a lot of Liverpool. Anyway, back to the game. Utter shite. We SHOULD have won that. Not because we were unlucky or anything, we weren't, but they were shite and trying, we were just shite and even playing at our normal (if there is a normal for us) standard, we'd have had them no bother. If Michael Owen had played, we'd have won, but that's the point. At the moment we rely/depend on Owen far too much. If he doesn't play, basically we're f*cked. Bramble and Boumsong were appalling. I'm not trying to defend them (excuse the pun), but I can't help thinking that if we had more options up front, there would be less pressure on the defence. At the end there were three players that I could see were arsed. Given, Shearer and Ramage. The rest buggered off, they applauded us. Not many people applauded back. I did, but my applause was for those three and NOT the rest of those buggers. I'll make an exception for Luque. He was shite today, but given his long injury lay off and his lack of experience playing in the side, and indeed English football, he should be exempt and anyone writing the lad off on the basis of today is out of order judging him so soon. Everton fans quiet as f*ck. Hardly a peep out of them except when they scored and they went back to sleep pretty sharpish. It was as funny as ever winding them up. They can't help but get angry and start jestering at us, which is funny as f*ck. That was the best bit of the day. Even when they were winning (and after the game as well), winding them up was so easy. I liked the 'You stole my stereo' song. First away game for several years. The away support and craic is terrific. I wish we could have a bit more of it at SJP. Don't know how us and the Everton fans came over on the telly. Minutes applause for George Best, well observed by both sides.
  11. I haven't been since I had the misfortune to go about 2 years ago. It had been many years since I'd gone prior to that. It was a dump then, and it was a dump when I went 2 years ago. I'm betting it's still a dump now. It's always reminded me of a larger version of Wallsend High Street and The Forum.
  12. Not seen or heard anything down here, but then again, I'm the other side of Heaton.
  13. Yeah. I liked it. It's funnier than the new series of Little Britain.
  14. I wasn't expecting anything and in that respect NUFC didn't let me down. We'll miss Steven Taylor. Lets hope Craig Moore is available soon, we should be fine when we get him in the side.
  15. Nowt wrong with it IMO. It's a feature of the local dialect.
  16. I don't mind either site. If something doesn't interest me (on either site) I'll just ignore it. I can't be arsed with slagging people off or getting involved in stuff like that. What's the point? Each to their own I reckon. Some people like this place, some like N-O, some like both. I don't see why there has to be a problem.
  17. Sorry to hear that. Condolences
  18. It was the Tyne Bridge that gave them the idea for the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The Tyne Bridge is 4 or 5 years older. The same company built both. As for the Jackie Milburn statue, it's on St James' Boulevard (formerly Blenheim Street) next to the Brewery. From SJP, cross over Barrack Road at the Roundabout with Gallowgate and it's a little way down on your right, sort of between Barrack Road and Westgate Road. Other things - the Castle Keep - you can go inside and up to the top. City Walls behind Chinatown Depending on how far you want to go, hop on the Metro to Wallsend (towards the coast) and Segedunum, the Roman Fort/Museum (where Hadrians Wall ended) is practically a minute's walk from the Metro Station. The Blue Carpet is next to the Laing Art Gallery. At the bottom of Northumberland Street (next to where it becomes Pilgrim Street) turn left and keep on walking towards the Holiday Inn, which is straight ahead. It's just before you get to the Holiday Inn, once you've crossed John Dobson Street (beside Dobson's Bar) you're there. The Ice rink has opened at Times Square (Centre for Life), so you could go Ice Skating.
  19. Although most of it is awful, Poundland has some good things. CD-Rs, DVD-Rs and the A4 writing pads - about 400 sheets.
  20. They're crap aren't they. Yes, they raise money for good causes, but as programmes it's just an excuse for very cheap/substandard TV. We've got the annual Children In Need on being shown here on Friday, and every year its the same old crap, getting newsreaders to sing, the obligatory comedy sketch, roping in a celebrity who will either be the butt of the joke and on the recieving end of all the catchphrases or they'll use the catchphrase against the character that usually says it. And then the localised bits are even worse, watching someone who's done something really wacky and original like sitting in a bath full of beans all day and raised £250. Fair enough it raises money for good causes, but is there not an alternative to this dross?
  21. I've bought a few things from the private sellers on Amazon and never had a problem. I usually have a look at what their past records have been like, and look at comments from people who've dealt with them in the past. I only buy from people with good records, and I think if you do that there shouldn't be any problems. I bought two books from two different sellers about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Did the order on the Saturday, the first book turned up on the Tuesday and the second one on the Wednesday.
  22. The Scots should stop this and sort it out one way or another. As it stands they're a willing part of the UK. They have their own parliament and they have the SNP whose aim is for Scottish independence, and yet the SNP is not the leading party in Scotland. If they want independence and a Scottish Olympic team then they should vote for the SNP. If they did, I don't think they'd have any problem in getting independence whatsoever. So either they do that, or we stick together and they remain as a willing part of the UK, but this notion of anti-Britishness or pro-independence whilst not opting to vote for a party that would get them that is just stupidity. They can't have it both ways. FIFA have said its fine - for 2012 at least, I don't think they would/could go back on that now. I don't see the problem. Football Venues for 2012 Wembley Stadium - London Old Trafford - Manchester St James' Park - Newcastle Villa Park - Birmingham Hampden Park - Glasgow Milennium Stadium - Cardiff The Scots and Welsh won't compete in the GB Olympic Football team, but they're obviously quite happy to host some games aren't they. In view of what they have both said, if I was the London 2012 organising committee I would be rethinking the inclusion of Hampden and the Milennium Stadium as Football venues. We're not short of stadiums in England that are up to the job. And while we're at it, lets kick Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham out of the ENGLISH league. They need us more than we need them, actually, English football doesn't need them at all. See how they like playing in the League of Wales. The Scots could kick Berwick out of the Scottish League, but then there'd be room for them in the Football League, along with two other English teams. We're not talking about getting rid of the 4 nations. (I don't want to get rid of England.) We're talking about only for the Olympics - in fact only as a one off for 2012. FIFA are fine with it, they themselves see that it would be ridiculous to have the host nation not competing in their national sport. In Rugby, the nations usually compete seperately, but every few years come together for a few weeks for the Lions. Apparently in initernational hockey we all compete seperately as well, but are able to compete as GB in the Olympics. Now surely, as a one off, for a few weeks during the Olympics in 2012 we can do the same.
