  1. And if SJP could hold Athletics meetings (which it did until the 1950s) then I suppose it could cope with a game of Baseball.
  2. No idea, although back in the 60s and 70s a lot of the American teams in the NASL played on Baseball pitches.
  3. Dunno, but I have a good Wartime fact concerning NUFC. During the war, the New York Yankees Baseball team toured Britain mainly for the morale of American troops stationed in Britain. They played fixtures against US Army teams, and also as there weren't any British Baseball Teams they played games against various Football and Cricket Clubs. On one occasion they played Newcastle at St James' Park in a double-header. One game of Baseball, one game of Football. Newcastle won both.
  4. Wartime games don't and shouldn't count. Wartime League titles and Wartime Cup winners aren't included in official records, so goals shouldn't be either. The Football League couldn't carry on in its usual format during the war. Players were away fighting, games couldn't be played as regularly and there were travel restrictions. But the government was very aware that Football had to continue in some form, for the morale of the nation. Therefore the Wartime League was established in a regionalised format. In reality they were little more than friendlies. Because players were away fighting, a guesting system was introduced which saw players turning out all sorts of times (Jackie Milburn even played for Sunderland on a few occassions). It was there simply for the morale of the people.
  5. From what I've seen of him on Spanish Football (not a huge amount like), he looks alreet.
  6. N-O's alright, I reckon.
  7. What will happen. Souness will be sacked as NUFC manager. Regardless of whether he goes soon or in the summer, he will go. Souness struggles to find employment within England, so when an offer comes in from America to coach an MLS chance he jumps at the chance, and takes Dean Saunders with him. Souness does reasonably well over in the states. After finishing his coaching career he stays on in the states, taking up a TV pundit role covering Premiership Football for Fox Sports in the US. Saunders graduates to take charge of an MLS side himself. Souness and Saunders' families settle in the US, their kids grow up there and have kids of their own. And there's the problem. You see Graeme Souness II and Dean Saunders II aren't involved in football, but take a lot of aspects from their grandparents. Both have risen to reach high positions in the United States. Graeme Souness II wins the 2071 US Presidential Election, and around the same time, Dean Saunders II, a high ranking military chief at the Pentagon becomes the highest ranking military official in the United States of America. Saunders makes huge changes to the military and the regime of its personnel. Souness is elected with the hope that he can sort things out. Much of the previous president, Robbie Bobson's 8 year term in office was succesful. Bobson had restored the confidence in the country after the paranoia of his predecessor's term. But towards the end of Bobson's time at the White House, Bobson lost the plot a little bit. Confidence drained, and a small disagreement led to war with Belgium. The American public, initially very much in favour of the war have grown tired and turned against the war. Belgian insurgents continue to pick off American troops and the images of body bags full of American soldiers arriving back in the US is a constant feature on the News Channels. It is hoped Souness will end the war and bring the troops home. Souness however does the opposite and antagonises the situation even further. The war gets worse and more troops are required. Over they go. The fighting in Belgium goes badly for America and Belgium actually launch an invasion attempt on America. Unfortunately, since the introduction of General Saunders' new methods, a large number of American servicemen are incapable of fighting due to hamstring injuries. In a panic, many are sent out to fight before they have fully recovered and end up aggrevating their injuries even further. Many towns across the Eastern Seaboard fall to the Belgians. Souness adresses the nation after New York falls to the Belgians and tells the nation it's not his fault and that America has a very good military - one of the best in the world, but they're suffering from bad luck with injuries.

  10. When you get in: Pint of water , brush your teeth and use some mouthwash. Take some cocodemol and a glass of water to bed with you. When you get up: Have a good filling breakfast, some fruit juice and some Lucozade.
  11. I used to make great ones. A couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream, some milk, a chopped banana, a couple of teaspoons of instant chocolate powder (NOT Cocoa Powder) and some fruit (Strawberries, a Kiwi Fruit, Raspberries etc) mix it all up. Lovely.
  12. I've not watched much. I watched Doctor Who on Xmas day, I watched the Quiz of 2005 on Channel 4 the other night (which was good despite Jimmy Carr - 8 out of 10 Cats was the same), a bit of football oh aye and the Soccer Saturday Universally Challenged quiz on Xmas Eve, which was canny. That's about it though.
  13. fuck's sake, that'd ruin it. Saying that though she would make a good baddie as the freak would have kids hiding behind the sofa.
  14. Right decisoion, but it could have and should have been made much sooner. I was walking in (because the buses are shite) listening to Radio Newcastle for the 6.30 inspection and I couldn't believe they let it go ahead at that stage. Got to the back of Eldon Square on Percy Street and they called it off. But it was clear about 5 o'clock there was going to be problems because of the snow coming down and accidents and jams all over the place.
  15. When the demo versions of the games came out I thought they were both good, but that FIFA just pipped Pro Evo. I bought FIFA when it came out and there are a few little niggly things about it, but on the whole it has the teams, the kits, the stadiums and most importantly the gameplay - which for me had made a big improvement in FIFA 2005 was better again. I think it's really good to play. I got PES5 at Crimbo and aside from all the stupid names, bad kits and what have you, which is rife throughout it, the gameplay isn't all that brilliant. The menus are dreadful as well. Right now I feel incredibly frustrated and disappointed in it and I'm back to playing FIFA which doesn't just pip pro Evo, it's MILES better.
  16. Anyone got any mods patches concerning teams, kits, badges and stadiums? I got one changing names and badges. Some of the strips are done as well, but its not complete. I've just got the game and on the basis of the demo I had a few months back I thought FIFA 06 just nicked it as the better game. I got FIFA when it was first released and now having played the full version of both games I have to say FIFA is MILES better. PES 5 is frustrating with all the silly names. You can change the team names and badges and you can change the stadium names but when you go to play a game the stadiums still have silly things like MAGPIE PARK and TRAD BRICK STADIUM (what sort of a name is that anyway?) and in the commentry, it's still 'Tyneside' or 'Man Red' or 'West Midlands Village' etc. And the gameplay isn't all that great either.
  17. It shouldn't be too bad. Turnstiles 39-40. Well I'm in Turnstiles 35-38, and I usually use Turnstiles 37 & 38 and my seat is at the East Stand end of the NE Corner, so if you're in 39-40, you'll be towards the end of the East Stand.
  18. The result can't be disputed. Liverpool were by far the better team and deserved the win, but that is beside the point. Bowyer's sending off was an absolutely disgraceful error by the referee. Gerrard has just said he thought the tackle was late but it should have been a yellow rather than a red card. Yes. Correct. It was late, but Bowyer was going for the ball rather than the man. Yellow card, hands up, bit of a late tackle. Gerrard is right on that point. But then he goes on to say that the rest of it was handbags. What? Crouch pushes Bowyer over. Bowyer gets up and DOES NOT react. Several Liverpool players go over towards him and give him a shove, but he doesn't retaliate in anyway. I saw Gerrard involved, although I have to say I didn't see any headbut or anything of that sort from him. It seems to me that Bowyer has been sent off because he's Lee Bowyer and he has a reputation. It's a reputation which in many ways he's brought upon himself, but you can't just send a man off because he has a reputation, even if he hasn't actually done anything to warrant being sent off. What happened was a classic example refereeing on the basis of the following. 1. Who the player concerned is 2. The team the player concerned is playing for 3. The team (and players) the player concerned is playing against 4. The venue in which the game is being played Peter Crouch got a yellow card. Why? For pushing Bowyer over? According to the laws of the game, a yellow card cannot be given for such an offence. Pushing someone over off the ball constitutes violent conduct for which a straight red card should be given. Not only has Bowyer been sent off wrongly, but Souness will now use this to avoid the fact we played badly and lost.
  19. Doesn't bother me. I've bought toilet roll on it's own before and never thought about it. Everyone has a sh!te, so I don't see what the problem is.
  20. That's true. The government won't let assylum seekers work until they've been granted refugee status. I think if they were given the opportunity, most would like to work. My Mam's a teacher and has had a few kids from families seeking assylum. She had one a couple of years ago. They were Iranians and both the parents were university educated laboritory technicians working in a hospital. Over here there are shortages of those same jobs in hospitals and yet the government wouldn't let them work. Absurd. That said though, it does sound harsh that if you've been working full time since you left school that you're not entitled to any benefits. That to me is just wrong.
  21. I'm not going to be too quick too judge. He has been a bit of a prick in the past, but there is obviously something wrong medically, and I'm not going to slag him off over that, just because he earns loads of money. I'm not sure that that's fair. It's definitely frustrating but it seems as though he too is frustrated by it. He says he's depressed, now if he means real depression (and given the fact he's mentioned feeling suicidal I'd have to think he does) then I do feel sorry for him. I have suffered from clinical depression before, and it's far from feeling 'a bit fed up' or what have you. I feel for anyone who feels that low, because it is the most awful feeling, and if you haven't suffered from it then you can't really comprehend how bad it is. I wouldn't wish that feeling on anyone.
  22. Ha! I've done the Corner House pub quiz a few times. Thursday nights for the Quiz.
  23. Leaving players out due to injury: Given, Boumsong, Parker, Solano, Owen The funniest I heard was a couple of weeks ago at Everton (Away). 35 years and no Europe 35 years and no Europe 35 years and no Europe Sunderland's a massive club 42 players no one's heard of 42 players no one's heard of 42 players no one's heard of Sunderland's a massive club Ten pound for adults and kids go free Ten pound for adults and kids go free Ten pound for adults and kids go free Sunderland's a massive club Steve Cram, celebrity fan Steve Cram, celebrity fan Steve Cram, celebrity fan Sunderland's a massive club Where do we start? I'd have to say Owen. Without Owen we're pretty much f*cked and have no options up-front. Amdy Faye has been useless. Boumsong's been pretty bad as well, and Ameobi has also been inept. His kicking is sometimes weak, and sometimes he doesn't shout as much as he should but other than that, there's not a lot. I suppose, in keeper terms he's short, but he makes up for that with his agility. He's one of the best shot stoppers I've seen. Overall, I'd rate him as one of the best keepers around. Maybe that doesn't come over, because our defence is poor, but he's kept us in games when we really should have been dead and buried.
  24. yeah we did. Arsenal decided to play being physical, we decided to play them at their own game and once they were on the receiving end they bricked it and suddenly they weren't up for it.
