He did look frail, but having just undergone surgery to remove lung cancer, I thought it was great that he was there, and if you consider that, he looked well.

I've always thought the same thing. Same with Christenings. People who aren't religious but have their bairns Christened, a ceremony in which they promise to bring up their kids as Christians. It's a puzzler. Should I ever get married, I have a brilliant get out clause for not getting married in church. My parents never Christened me, and as I'm not Christened, I can't get married in Church. Fantastic!

The last few days has been full of Arsenal fans, players and ex-players offering their favourite memories of Highbury. Well, I'd like to offer mine. May 3, 1997. Man U had won the title, but for the first time, Second Place teams would also qualify for the Champions League (via a playoff). With a week to go, that was still a three horse race, Liverpool were in second, and we were in fourth when we visted 3rd place Arsenal. There was a really good buzz. The General Election had been just two days early and Labour had swept to a landslide victory. As an 18 year old I'd just voted for Labour in my first ever election. It seemed like every NUFC fan there had voted for Labour and were singing about Labour's victory (if onl we knew how it would turn out eh). Anyway, it was a warm, suuny afternoon (with the occassional shower here and there). When we went in the ground, it was restricted view because of the pillars, but not all the seats were used as Arsenal left some unsold so that people could move around, so it was a bit like musical chairs the whole game with people constantly on the move, although most of us stood. Anyway, we won 1-0 despite going down to 10 men, with Robbie Elliott scoring and doing his chicken dance. Earlier in the season, Arsenal had won 2-1 at SJP and had given it the 'we've only got 10 men' song, so we were dishing it out back to them.' I remember a bigger comotion at the snack bar at half time when a bloke asked for a pie only for the rather large woman behind the counter to announce that they'd run out. The bloke shouts "That's cause ye've ate them all you fat f*cker!" and everyone was laughing. The win meant we overtook Arsenal into 3rd place. Then the air conditioning on the train broke on the way back and it was boiling hot, so they were dishing out free cans of Fanta and everyone was singing "Johnny Major on the dole".

I always have several books on the go at the same time. Right now I'm reading the following; Mr Gillray: The Caricaturist - Draper Hill About the late 18th & early 19th Century Caricaturist/Cartoonist James Gillray. I'm reading it as part of my British Political Caricature module at Uni. Sweet Land of Liberty? - Robert Cook About the African American Freedom Struggle since 1865. Again reading that one for Uni. Rude Kids - Chris Donald The Story of The Viz - Quite a good read. The Victorious Opposition - Harry Turtledove Part of an alternative series in which the Confederacy wins the US Civil War. The Confederacy Allies with Britain and France in another war against the US in the 1880s and wins again. The USA allies to Germany resulting in WWI being fought on American battlefields as well as in Europe. The CSA, France and Britain lose to The USA, Germany and Austria. The CSA and France suffer badly and are plunged into economic crises. Although Britain is on the losing side and is stripped of Ireland and Canada they still have a large Empire and threaten the USA. The USA occupies Canada. By the Victorious Opposition the Canadians are rebelling against the US Occupation and the Fascist Freedom Party sweep to power in the CSA and begin rearming to take their revenge on the USA. Similar events unfold in France, supported by Britain. The Longest Day - Cornelius Ryan Umpteenth re-read of this one. It's basically an account of D-Day and the Normandy Invasions. I'm re-reading it to put together an alternative timeline in which D-Day fails, ultimately resulting in the Atomic Bomb being dropped on Germany.

I'm looking forward to this.

Gotta hand it to that tw@t Charles Clarke like. A week before the local elections and he's gifted the BNP with his ineptitude and incompetance.

I really hope Emre stays, I think he's been great.

Well, I don't know how true these rumours are, but I don't think him being short of the badges would be much of a problem. He has his A-Licence and apparently, the Pro-Licence is a short course dealing with things such as agents and time management, things which Roeder will have had experience of anyway, so whilst he'd need to do his Pro badge it's not that big an obstacle.

There was one at mine called Mr Peacock, my mate got suspended for calling him Mr Cockpea, could never fathom that out 127018[/snapback] You didn't go to Benfield by any chance? He was such a tw@t. Used to be able to get away with murder though in his classes though.

I've got the PC version and this has been driving me mad for ages! I've done all the missions I can on it (Sweet, Big Smoke, Ryder and OG Loc) and I haven't got any more missions to do. Apparently after the lowrider mission at Unity Station your supposed to get a phone call off Cesar, but I haven't. And there's also meant to be a phone call from Tenpenny triggering his missions, but I've not had that either. The first Tenpenny mission starts at the Donut place in Market, I've been there and there's nothing to do. I've started new game after new game after new game, but same thing every time. I get that far and then there's nothing, apart from playing pool, or dancing in the club or doing more carhopping for money etc. But no more main missions and I know that's f*ck all far in the game. Any ideas or help?

Wankers. But saying that there's NUFC fans who have gloated about Munich as well. I remember being at the Ibrox Pre-season tournament in 1995 (NUFC, Rangers, Man U & Sampdoria). Man U fans were sitting below us and a lot of people were making paper aeroplanes out of leiflets dished out about European trips and were throwing them at the Man U fans, making the aeroplane gestures whilst singing Dambusters and "Those Manchester men in their flying machines".

West Brom were very poor. I was expecting they might have a bit more fight in them. First half, we did OK, but we didn't have to hit Top Gear. Second half wasn't all that great. They were bright for five or ten minutes after half time, but they didn't trouble us at all and we cruised through it.

Bollocks!...I'm writing a better World Cup song

I'm not bothered about the Queen. I'm no great fan, but I don't hate her, just very indifferent really. Would I have a Republic instead? I don't know. The system we have works. It's a Constitutional Monarchy and the Monarch is practically powerless and the ones that are there are ceremonial and if say the Queen refused to give laws passed in Parliament she'd simply be overridden and we'd kick the Royals out. A Republic though may mean BIG changes to the political framework. If we had say a US Style Presidency that would be a massive difference. Even if we went down the French route of a President and Prime Minister, the PM wouldn't have the same influence as the position has now because the President is still the major political power in French politics. The alternative is that we go for a system like Ireland or Germany, where the President is elected but plays much more a ceremonial role and it's the Taoiseach/Chancellor (PM for us) and the cabinet and government who make the important decisions, much like in our system. Something like that would mean minimal changes to our system. If we were to have a Republic that's the kind of system I would want, if it was to be like the other two - forget it, keep what we've got - if it ain't broke, don't fix it and all that. Opponents of a Republic would say that we would lose out on tourism that the Royals bring in. I'm not sure about that. Buckingham Palace is a big attraction, but Buckingham Palace does not belong to the Royal Family, it belongs to the state. Therefore, Buckingham Palace could serve nicely as a Presidential Palace, and there's no reason why ceremonies such as the Changing of the Guard etc couldn't continue. It's also worth noting that one of the most popular attractions in Europe is the Palace of Versailles, the former court of French Kings, and it's been a while since they ditched their monarchy. I'm fine with sticking with what we have, but I'm not against the idea of a Republic, as long as it's the right sort of Republic. The Australians had a referendum on whether they should keep the Monarchy or go for a Republic about 6 or 7 years ago. They chose to keep the Queen. Not because the majority of Australians are staunch Monarchists, but because they didn't like the type of Republic on offer.

Fair enough if kids like Wrestling, but I don't understand how adults like it.
