Not sure the ideas in Mein Kampf made a difference to the world since the only bloke to implement them was the bloke that wrote it. Yeah, but that implementation resulted in the biggest war of all time. I'd say that's quite a difference. Aye, Hitler made a difference. Not his book. Maybe, but Mein Kampf certainly contributed to the popularity of the Nazi party. Do you honestly think the biggest war of all time is more important than football? I'm not sure you can compare the two though. They both had MASSIVE impacts on the world in very different ways. The FA rules book is justified because Football is the most popular sport in the world. It is probably the world's true global sport, and has made a huge social and cultural impact. People can argue 'it's only a sport', but its a sport in which people of all different nationalities, races, religions, cultures etc all have in common, and that can be a very very powerful thing.

I think that these books have changed the world as well. Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels - The Communist Manifesto (1848) Adolf Hitler - Mein Kampf (1925 - Volume 1, 1926 - Volume 2) Admitedly, perhaps not for the better (although the former can be either for better or worse, or even a bit of both, which is how I feel about it.) But they both changed the world massively and had massive impacts on the course of the twentieth century.

I never used to watch Top Gear, because I'm not actually interested in cars themselves, but I watch it now the format has changed. That was quite funny tonight. Completely over the top reactions in Alabama there. Quite scary.

Nah, personally, I still think Newcastle has got its character DESPITE the chain pubs and hen and stag nights etc. Mind you, I don't drink where the stag and hen parties or the charvers go. If you're out and about, yeah we have the same shops as everywhere else in the UK, but to me Newcastle still looks and feels like Newcastle. I wouldn't swap this place for the world. Don't get me wrong, I want to travel and visit other places, but as far as living somewhere, Newcastle still feels like home as much as ever.

At the risk of sounding like a Marxist. Valentines day is emotional exploitation by Capitalism. Make a day in which people feel that they have to declare their love. If they don't there'll be hell on. "You didn't buy me flowers/chocolate/a present/take me out for a meal" etc. "You didn't even get me a card." So people are caught into "I have to do something" and fork out inflated prices on these things, whilst the Capitalist card makers, restuaranteurs etc are all rubbing their hands raking it in. I'm not exactly the right person to be dispensing romantic advice like, but do people really need a designated day to show how much they love someone? I've always thought that being spontaneous was a part of romance, but how can a designated day in which millions of other people around the world are doing similar things be spontaneous? Its just a cynical Capitalist ploy to use one of the strongest human emotions to get people to part with their money. By all means be romantic, go out for a romantic meal, buy flowers, presents etc and tell someone that you love them, but you don't need a specificly designated day to do that stuff. Say bollocks to Valentines day, and plan to do that stuff on a day of your own choosing instead.

I like this Newcastle related Profanisaurus entry Newcastle cup run Descriptive of that wistful feeling experienced by gentlemen looking down at their own erections and wishing they could suck themselves off. From the fact that they know 'it's within reach, but it's never going to happen.'

I would happily settle for winning fuck all if we had football like that though. I'd prefer to win things too though, obviously. I agree, it was such an exciting time. It just makes our current state all the more sad to me! I'd definitely settle for winning nowt if we could have those sorts of days back again. It was always an absolute pleasure. I can remember about 1991 when we were really shit going to a game with me Mam, as I did back then. We were walking up the steps from St James Metro and I said something like 'why do we bother?', and my Mam said 'because one day we'll be really good and you'll appreciate it more because we go now.' At the time I never imagined that would ever happen, but it did, and me Mam was right. If they'd just left alone with that fucking PLC shite, we'd have won something by now. Or if Dalglish hadn't had meddled. I mean the second half of that season when he came in, we all thought he'd cracked it. Same football, but the defence seemed sturdier as well, and then he goes and does stuff like sell Ferdinand and then Shearer gets injured....... aaggghhh! Drives me nuts that does. Or if SBR had come when Keegan left and not stayed with Barcelona out of loyalty after they'd shafted him anyway....... if if if

http://icnewcastle.icnetwork.co.uk/journal...-name_page.html Meet 'King' Albert Feb 9 2007 By Daniel Thomson, The Journal When Albert Turnbull began looking into his family history he never dreamed of discovering that he was related to the King of England. But the retired engineer, of Whickham, Gateshead, was named yesterday as having one of the strongest claims on the throne, after English Heritage carried out an international search for alternative heirs. Albert, 70, has known about his regal ancestry for 15 years, but stepped forward to reveal his family's lineage when he heard of an appeal to track down the relatives of those who might have been crowned if William the Conqueror had lost the Battle of Hastings. Grandfather-of-four Albert started researching his genealogy 35 years ago and was shocked to discover he was not only related to St Margaret and King Alfred - but also to William the Conqueror. This means Albert may have had a claim on the throne regardless of the result of the Battle of Hastings. Albert, the Prince of Wales's 23rd cousin, said: "I managed to go all the way back to King Cerdic,[correct] the first King of Wessex, who invaded Britain in about 500AD. The Royal Family can trace its line back to King Cerdic and I'm 55 generations descended from him. "I was quite shocked when I discovered this meant I had a claim on the throne, but I don't take it too seriously. I've got no delusions of grandeur. Theoretically, everyone alive now who had ancestors in Britain has some sort of claim. "And I don't think Prince Charles is going to be looking over his shoulder anytime soon." The retired lecturer and engineer became interested in tracing his family history in 1972 after reading a story about William of Rule who was reportedly re-named Turnbull after saving Robert the Bruce from a rampaging bull. He was able to trace the family to Henry Turnbull who bought land in Elswick, Newcastle, from the Barony of Benwell in the 1500s. This land was later identified as Turnbull's Nook. But it took 20 years of detective work for Albert to discover he was related to royalty. He said: "Most people can only trace their family history back to about 1600 because that's how far church records go back, but if you can find a landowner you can go back much further. "I was lucky enough to discover my father's grandmother was called Thirkeld and originated in Cumbria where they married into the Barons of Westmorland. This meant I was related to the 10th Baron, who could be traced back to King Edward III in the 1300s. "I managed to go back even further to King Cerdic in 500AD using the Anglo Saxon Chronicles, but I can't go back any further than that, although I can still go sideways, so my search isn't over. I've come to really love it. It's detective work." Albert is married to Rita, 67, and they have children, Hayley, 42, and Ian, 38, and four grandchildren: Rachel, 14, Alex, 10, Emily, 10, and seven-year-old Lucy. Albert worked as an engineer building coaches before lecturing in both engineering and genealogy, at Gateshead Technical College for 34 years.

My dad used to do a quiz. He used to do a name the people round. Basically he'd spend hours cutting famous people out of newspapers, and sticking them on a sheet of paper and number them. You just get people to stick the names beside each number. Simple, and you don't really have to put too much thought into it.

Cruise being talked up as unrecognised 'Messiah'!
Tom_NUFC replied to Park Life's topic in General Chat
Tom Cruise is a nutter, not a messiah. At least Jesus turned water into wine and walked on water and did magic tricks. What the fuck has Tom Cruise done apart from be an annoying little short arse whose made crap films and an idiot of himself on American TV? -
I've not been watching, but that all seems a bit too much. There's nowt wrong with encouraging your kids and things. My parents had me reading and writing before I started school, but all that I want my kids to help mankind sounds f*cking pompous. Let bairns be bairns while they can.

I'm listening to Ross Noble at the City Hall, and it's definitely the night I was at. Although the order's jumbled up. The lass with the shoe he signs was at the start of the second half. But on the radio its near the start.

I have sensitive skin. What I do is a use some pre-shave stuff to soften my face up. You can get some stuff by the 'Real Shaving Company'. You just wash your face with warm water and then put some of the pre shave stuff around the areas you're shaving and leave it for a few minutes. It makes your face warm. Then you rinse it off and shave as normal, though I use shaving foam/gel for sensitive skin. That usually does the trick, but every now and then it feels quite sore afterwards, and when it does, I put some aftershave balm on.

I got a 1gb (holds about 500 songs) Zen Nano for me Mam for Christmas and it seems fine. I'd have thought that would be big enough. It has FM Radio as well, but no MW unfortunately. I've got a Zen myself, although its a 40gb one that isn't made anymore. I've had it for a couple of years and it's a bit of a brick but I've not had any bother with it. I know other people who have Zens and it seems like they seem to be pretty reliable players.

I'd bring the troops back from Iraq and use them to shoot the BNP

Of course those people are typical of Muslims in Britain aren't they. How thousands/millions of decent, ordinary Muslims in this country are tarred with the same brush as a small minority of misled kids and hateful idiots and lunatics is beyond me. There are white people who make me feel sick as well, intolerant racists, the BNP. They're just as bad a Muslim extremists. In both cases they want to create tensions and racial violence.

I don't mind the bus that much. Some routes are better than others. For instance, the Charver ratio on the 1 is much lower than the 62/63. Mind you the drivers on the 1 seem to think that double decker buses are rally cars. The way they hurtle through Heaton, taking tight corners (for buses) whilst barely slowing down takes the piss at times. The buses have gone downhill ever since the PTE stopped running them. They were all integrated then. And they were Yellow (the traditional bus colour in Newcastle) rather than the same Stagecoach livery that the buses in most British cities have. I miss the yellow buses.

Generally tacky. I don't so much mind if its a normal registration and someone has it because it has some significance to them, but actual personalised ones - tacky as fuck

Schleswig-Holstein was disputed territory between Denmark and Prussia. There were parts ruled by Denmark, but populated by Germans. In 1846, when many believed that Denmark threatened to take German parts of Schleswig-Holstein, there was a chant which was popular at the time. Wir rufen Nein! und aber Nein zu solchen Einverleiben Wir wollen keine Danen sein Wir wollen Deutsche bleiben We cry No! and No again to any Annexation We don't want to be Danes We want to remain German

I read the Journal and the Guardian

Congrats. I'm off for a few drinks. Heading down to the Ouseburn Valley. The Cluny and The Tyne definitely, maybe the Free Trade and the Ship as well.

Aye, the Germans used the concentration camps for Jews, other 'inferior people' and opponents. But where did they get the idea from? It was Britain who invented the concentration camp.
