  1. Your called Tom? Bloody hell, not another one
  2. My Mam's got a Fabia, and she's very happy with it. Nowt wrong with modern Skodas, the Fabia is just a Polo anyway - only its cheaper. Anyway, here's a car up for sale. http://news.bbc.co.uk/nol/ukfs_news/hi/new...900/6433955.stm

  5. I might fancy this one - I'll have to wait until the details are out though. I went back in '94 last time we played there. Its a lot closer to Sheffield City Centre than Hillsborough. You can walk it in about 15 minutes or so. I don't know about the pubs - I was only 15 then, and things will have changed anyway. Their fans seemed friendly enough though.
  6. I've not read that one. Who's it by? It sounds like a Postmodern theory of history. I can't stand it myself - very contradictory. Reading Keith Jenkins did my head in. Its by C. Behan McCullagh. Yeh its part of postmodernism, load of shit in my opinion too. Got a lecture in an hour called 'Historical Knowing'. Christ on a bike! Oh aye, we've had History theory modules as well - every f*cking year.
  7. No. Knocky Nine Doors - Knocking on doors and running away Knock on Ginger - Knocking on doors and asking if 'ginger' (or some random name) was in Different games.
  8. That's pretty much all true. The thing about not wearing cycle helmets is a good one. I remember when there was all the fuss about them when they were fairly new. We had the opportunity to buy them from school, and of course my mam insisted. My dad was cynical about it and me and my brother didn't want them because they were huge bulky things. My dad knocked mine off the table once, at no great force onto a carpeted floor and it split in two. Its such a shame that bairns now don't play out - I suppose that's partly down to parents being scared about paedophiles - but its no more dangerous now, just more fuss is made. The kids sit indoors watching TV and playing computer games, which is fine - we did that as well, but they're missing out on great fun. Playing out was great - we used to have bike races (of course the bikes had spokey dokeys and or a bit of card jammed against the back wheel to make it sound like a motorbike). I liked playing football over the park - or the variations of it in the back lane like World Cup doubles and singles. And Knocky Nine Doors fantastic.

  10. They were only one persons interpretation of events too. Imagine if in 1000years time we found either hitlers or churchills diary describing the war. Both records of history, but both vastly different. Hence the problem with reliability of any historical documents. Yeah, but it would still be history. You're right in that it would be biased, but in some respects they would still be reliable - perhaps not so much in trying to get a balanced view of what actually occured, but in asking certain questions or looking at certain things, they may very well be reliable, and in any sense they would most certainly be valuable historical records, regardless of their bias nature.
  11. bad choice of phrasing I admit.
  12. Ireland's role in the Second World War is a bit of a tricky one. People are quick to point to issues such as IRA members aiding German U-boats, and the fact that Eammon De Valera signed a book of condolences when Hitler died. Both are true, but what is also true is that Irish intelligence passed on information to the British. Many in the Irish government - and also amongst the general population believed that they would be better off with a Allied victory than a Nazi one. Had the Nazis beaten Britain, then Europe would have been subjugated under Nazi rule. Eastern Europe would have become part of the Greater German Reich. Ireland would probably have gained Northern Ireland at Britain's expence, but both Britain and Ireland, along with the rest of Western Europe would be puppet states, doing exactly as Germany wanted. Moreover, would Northern Ireland's absorbtion into a united Ireland end the problems? No, because the Unionists would probably create havoc both in the North, and also in other parts of Ireland. As it was, although still part of the British Commonwealth until 1949, Ireland was independent as the Irish Free State. A British victory would see Ireland's independence remain. They would not be a Nazi puppet state, and planned to leave the Commonwealth, becoming a full Republic with the ability to negotiate and talk with Britain over the problem of Northern Ireland. This of course all happened, and it's crucial to remember that the IRA did not represent the Irish government (just as the various Unionist thugs and murderers did not represent the British government). There were some terrible, tragic and tense times, but through it all the two countries were talking. Had the Nazis won and both Britain and Ireland were Nazi puppets, this would not have been possible. Ireland would have gained the north, but at a terrible expence. I know what you're saying, but to be fair, both England and Scotland shafted Northumbria. Edinburgh is as much Northumbrian as Newcastle - but the Scots went and took it. The Scots make me sick, bleating on about the English, when they did the exact same thing to Northumbria. If you want to know what to do. Declare independence and take back all Northumbrian land. Whether it was stolen by England or Scotland makes no difference, both are thieving bastards.
  13. If only he had come on here then we could have had some proper fun. Ah aye, that was on N-O. I get mixed up. I often look for threads on the wrong one.
  14. There's been nowt that's touched that Man U kid - Lee and his fake death antics. That was the best ever.
  15. Is that actually true or just internet true? Or is that just a viking link which is true for vast swathes of Europe? True, according to an interview with a genealogist I heard on the radio a few months back.
  16. My family originate from Galway a couple of generations back. Never been to that part of Ireland myself. The reason why the Irish don't have as big a chip as the Scots is that unlike the Scots, they had the bollocks not just to sit about talking about independence - they actually went and did it. I don't mind whether the Scots become independent or not, but if they want it, I wish they'd act instead of mouthing off about it as they have done for years. It would be very easy for them - no hassle as there was with the Irish, it would all be very amicable and civilised. Also, here's an interesting fact. Over half of people born on Tyneside have Irish roots somewhere in their makeup.
  17. Never been down there and I'm based in the Lipman. Its wierd how the majority of the Lipman is for History, Politics, English, Modern Languages etc, then there's all the arty farty drama types down in the basement. Celebrity's in Heaton eh? I've seen one or two before. I once saw Diego Gavilan (remember him) in Spar on Chilly Road Seen that wifey who used to be on The Bill as well It's the new Hollywood....even though my sightings were at least 5 years ago
  18. I might pop along if I get things done in time.
  19. Here's a real one. Admitedly he's not completely mortal, but he's had a few and he's downing it at the end. http://youtube.com/watch?v=GFuN_LnF-NU&amp...ted&search=
  20. some nice tunes - lacking singing though - how come?
  21. Now there's a fantastic example of a film that I've seen, but I really wish I hadn't. Apalling I just think its crap, crap songs, boring boring boring film which celebrates 1950s America. Yeah racial segregation and witchhunts - wonderful. Do you like Goodfellas? Aye but its not really celebrating 50s American culture though is it and only the start is set in the 50s anyway.
