Is this based on the scan and medical opinion, or someone like Kenny Sansome watching the replay and making a guess? I'm always wary with SSN cos they talk such shit a lot of the time.
-
Do you think??
-
I just think we need someone with pace down the right, and Lennon gives that, plus he'll stay on the wing. Beckham would just keep drifting inside if you tell him to play on the right, and Lampard hasn't done enough to keep his place. So basically, mine's the best, so ner.
-
I would play: Hargreaves Lennon Beckham Gerrard Cole Rooney from now on in. Crouch comes on if we're really struggling. We need to be offering something down the right and currently there's nowt as Beckham keeps drifting in. Lampard comes on for Beckham if we're struggling an'all. FM2006-tastic!

He acted like a petulant child. For God's sake, he's supposed to be a grown up. If I went round kicking desks everytime something went wrong for me at work, what do you think people would say? This is the perfect illustration how people think that it is acceptable for footballers to behave below the normal levels of common decency. I may talk shit at times, but I find you highlighting that particualr sentence astounding. 151421 If you screamed "YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!! FUCKING GET IIIIIIIIIIIN!!!" and ran to the corner of the room and did a robot dance every time something went right at work, I suspect your colleagues would have something to say too. Are you getting how being a professional footballer and being a medical writer doesn't really bear comparison? It's nothing to do with common decency and everything to do with things being taken in context - he was annoyed and he showed it with a petulant strop. It looked a bit silly, but I wouldn't have said it was outside of the realms of decency or anything. 151426 Alright, the comparison isn't perfect, but neither is yours. Of course players are going to celebrate when scoring a goal, it's part of the emotion and has entertainment value. However, only certain players act like twats when subbed. He was playing shite, it was for the teams benefit and his he was subbed. He acted like a twat, showing no resppect for the other subs or his manager. If you disagree then fine, I take it you're happy if every player acts like a primadonna when they are subbed from now on. 151432 It's part of the emotion in the same way that celebrating a goal is man. You can't expect them to be full of good emotions when they score and then emotionless robots when things don't go so well. Yes, I've conceded he looked a bit daft, but I could understand his frustrations - he's come back from injury and knows he's better than he's currently capable of playing, and it must be incredibly frustrating. He let it show and I don't think that's a crime. 151436 I just think it goes to show Rooney is not in control of his emotions, he's a loose cannon. Pampering him isn't going to help. Not that I care, hopefully he will continue to go into full self destruct mode for ManU. 151440 Get a grip man, he took his boots off in too angry a fashion for your delicate sensibilities? 151446 Get a grip man, I made one comment about "twattish" behaviour (imo of course), and I get all this grief! I don't care! 151455 ....he stropped before getting up and kicking a colleague's desk.

It's Shearer all over again. Sign one of Europe's top strikers, he cattles his knee and is never the same player again. The curse of NUFC strikes again. 151439 There are a few differences - Shearer's determination and committment to the club ensured he was an asset to us pretty quickly. I really can't see the same in Owen. And for a player who's main asset is pace, this injury may be even more significant. 151441 Ok, so the comparison doesn't work exactly. They've got different names too.

I'd love it if Sweden beat the Germans. LOVE IT!

Alright, I'm being harsh and unfair, but I really feel resentment over the fact that he has made it abundantly clear England is his priority. Meanwhile, we foot the bill. This is devestating news for NUFC - I feel the season is over before it's started. As you know I couldn't give a fuck about England or Owen's aspirations for the national team. The only thing I care about is NUFC, and for whatever reasons, be it bad luck or mis-management, the Owen signing is proving to be a disaster. Also as regards sympathy, I reserve that for normal people who have to struggle to get by when they are sick, not to people who are earning !20 grand a week with the best medical help money can buy. We idolise these players like they are some kind of Gods, that they're pain is worse than us mere mortals. We forgive twattish behaviour like Rooney's last night on the basis "we can't understand what it must be like". Well yeah, it must be really hard to be financially secure by the age of 20 making a living out of what you love most. 151408 I don't buy the argument that because they've got a lot of money you can't feel sympathy for them tbh - they live their lives in a completely different context to the rest of us, but it doesn't mean they don't feel disappointment within that context. I felt bad for Cisse too when he broke his leg two days before the tournament started and he doesn't play for England OR Newcastle. I agree that this puts our coming season at risk, and whatever Roeder had planned as transfer targets this summer has just taken a drastic change. I just hope we'll look at some loan prospects for once - other teams do it but we seem to have an aversion. This would seem to be the perfect scenario to get someone in on loan until Christmas or whatever, on top of the signings we need to make.
-
I don't think there's any chance of him being ready for the start of the season tbh. Not the way all the players and Sven are going on about how "it looks a bad one". I hope I'm wrong (and I obviously have no medical expertise), but I think it'll be getting on for the New Year before we see him play for us.
-
Renton man, the lad fell badly and knackered his knee at a World Cup. The sight of him crawling off the pitch in agony was pathetic. I don't really understand how you could have no sympathy at all for him, although I admit my primary concern is for Newcastle and not for Owen's state of mind.
-
Hind sight is a wonderful thing isn't it ! This might be better news than it first appears, certainly if its only a minor injury, it looks like Owen will still be a Newcastle United player come the 1st of September ! if its a injury that sees him sit out the rest of the World cup but is fit for the start of the Premiership it could be to our advantage. If it isn't we are fucked. 151376 About the only good thing to come out of this is that we won't now lose him in this transfer window. The bad thing obviously being that I don't think we'll be seeing him in black and white until some time around the New Year. Having said that, when do the Euro 2008 qualifiers start?
-
Class.
-
Get in, Gerrard. Fucking awful marking from the Swedes.
-
Effectively defending a 1-1 draw now like. And with them piling the pressure on with all these set pieces. Dangerous game.
-
Gerrard supposedly next sub on. Sven, you prick, put Carrick on. Jenas even ffs. Why risk a booking for Gerrard for the sake of 20 minutes? And why the fuck did you take Walcott????????
-
Oops. Brilliant bullet of a corner.
-
Andy Gray in a Merseyside derby. Star of BBC's commentary team is Leonardo by a country mile tbh 151210 See him doing the bit of keepie-ups the other day? I agree though, he's eloquent and knows his stuff. Puts most of the natural English speakers on the BBC panel to shame and pisses all over the ITV ones.
-
Apart from that shot.
-
Hargreaves is having a good game an'all. Lampard has been canny quiet again so far.
-
Brilliant effort from Cole there. He's looking quality again tonight.
-
I don't think he'll even be fit for the start of the season. I think Southgate's got the right idea btw - drop Crouch, play 5 in the midfield from now on.
