Aye I don't really have an answer beyond "if at all possible, don't quit til you've found something else", but I know you wouldn't be doing that if you didn't think that the situation had become intolerable. You do probably need to start thinking about how this is gonna look when you apply for other jobs though, as it will become a factor in their decision if they think they might be looking for someone else a month down the line. I think you were in your old job a long time (is that right?). Do you think that maybe the way employers treat people has shifted while you've been there, but it hasn't impacted you cos you were comfortable there and knew what worked and what didn't, and what you could get away with? And since you've left, you're the new boy so a) you're getting the shitty end of the stick for a bit anyway, and b) these people just operate differently now cos of the shift in worker rights. Not suggesting that it's OK that the way employers treat people has shifted btw, but it might be something that you're gonna find everywhere you go. It might be that your tolerance for feeling like an employer is taking the piss out of you needs to be recalibrated, because unless there is something you could do self employed*, there's always some cunt sat above you, trying to make their life easier by making your life harder. None of these are good answers, and I hope you take them in the spirit intended. When I was working for a start up recently and it genuinely looked like it was all gonna fall over, the prospect of going through an interview and assessment process terrified me - I just knew I couldn't be arsed with it. 50s/approaching 50s is a really fucking shit time to suddenly find yourself having to look for work. *being self employed is no bed of roses either obviously.

Blair didn't start off in 97 with the public finances in the toilet either.
-
Just read that. I clicked on it thinking "wtf is Caulkin doing with these puff pieces" but it's impossible not to warm to Staveley. Right decision for them to leave if they were just gonna be interfering, but big shoes for Eales to fill. Sounds like the players loved her.

They look like they've been clagged on as an afterthought.
-
Congrats strawb, and hope you're feeling better soon.

It's obviously how it would be reported though, isn't it? "The public finances are in the toilet, and now Labour are getting the credit card out".
-
It would have been a fucking mental thing to do to stand up today and announce how the previous government had lied to the OBR, and that the public finances are in an even worse state than anyone imagined....and then follow it up with "SO WE'RE GETTING THE CREDIT CARD OUT!"

It's the 29th of July man. We're not even out of the month of the election.
-
The main journalists from the Telegraph, Sun and Mail are all reporting all of the cuts Reeves has announced today, with literally not a mention of the stuff about Hunt lying to the OBR etc. Like check their twitter accounts, they aren't mentioning it at all. It's really quite sinister shit. That's the context for Reeves's actions. I'm still hopeful of some stuff in the budget in October, but I totally understand them not just immediately announcing massive borrowing, given the context I mention above. I don't want to hear any more from TT's resident Owen Jabronis.

This is horrifying.

Making them wait to lock that shit down. I like it.

Is the current Mrs PL also the first Mrs PL?
-
Ah got you. I thought that's what you meant, but I live my life by a single motto: never make assumptions about the judgement of a man that would wear a paisley shirt.

Their current pay is a disgrace? Or the pay rise?

My understanding is that Starmer's "deal" with Murdoch was no Leveson 2 if they don't take the piss on how they cover Labour. This is the first test of that. If the Murdoch press fails it, I wouldn't even contact the cunt, I'd just call a press conference and announce Leveson 2.
-
saw your post and knew it would be Starmer's fault.
-
The Sun journalists doing exactly the same.
-
The state of journalism in this country man. Scroll through the Daily Mail Political Editor's tweets for the last hour and he's made NO reference to the charge from Reeves, the confirmation from the IFS, or the fact that the OBR has launched this review. But he's reported every cut she's announced as a result of it, obviously majoring on the means testing if winter fuel allowance. These people are a disgrace.
-
If this was to expose that Hunt and co hid stuff knowingly, which meant they lied to the independent body set up to assess the health of the public finances, lied to parliament, and lied to the British people, there should genuinely be criminal charges possible for stuff like this.
-
Huw Edwards charged with making indecent pictures of children. Which doesn't actually mean making but it means he allegedly downloaded/had them on his computer.
-
She should reverse Hunt's National Insurance reductions. The irresponsible cunt clearly made them knowing that the public finances were already completely fucked.
-
All the patter from the likes of Paul Johnson at the IFS saying "it's no use Reeves claiming she didn't know the true state of the public finances pre election, it's all made available now via the OBR". Well Reeves' statement (and supporting figures released by the Treasury) has just made clear that there were overspends that the previous govt simply didn't declare to the OBR. So there's a genuinely previously unknown black hole in the public finances. Paul Johnson is now saying that she's right. Absolutely disgraceful that lot.
