  1. Missus just told me there's some folk in one her "mums" forum saying that if the vaccine is 90% effective they'd rather take their chances with the virus, since the mortality rate from covid is far less than 10%. Fuck me man its no fucking wonder our death toll is the highest in Europe.
  2. *shameless plug warning* I was doing a batch of Scottish old-firm themed pedals the other week and threw this together on a whim since I already had the graphic from the last time. Its a straight up JHS Angry Charlie/MI Audio Crunch Box clone (same circuit, one extra component in the JHS that shaves off some of the highs. Switch underneath the backplate to select between both modes. I prefer the brighter Crunch Box myself). Cheers. Ebay link
  3. Watched that game on Sunday. Less said about it the better but I will say it gave me some ideas for a fully fledged line of Newcastle themed pedals to rival the Chinese made budget JOYO branded stuff. I'm thinking a not quite bargain-basement but moderately priced "JONJO" range: There's not much too them, barely half a dozen working components under the hood but they'll amazing things often enough to merit a permanent always-on residence on your pedal board. The catch is that now and again they'll do weird glitchy shit like the MXR Blue Box and be totally uncontrollable and some nights you'll probably find that your rig functions much better with them off.
  4. I’ve seen a lot of weird shit on drugs, but I have never ever ever ever ever looked at Sunderland and thought "that looks like a great investment". Not once, all right? I have seen UFO’s split the sky like a sheet, but I have never ever seen Sunderland and thought "invest", not once. I have had seven balls of light come off of a UFO, lead me onto their ship, explain to me telepathically that we are all one and there is no such thing as death, but I have never ever ever have I looked at Sunderland and thought "that could be a wise investment". Now, maybe I wasn’t getting good shit?
  5. I really wouldn't expect Robert Keeley put his name to garbage. Seymour Duncan on the other hand...... Similarly, I've never played any EQD pedal that I didn't like. Some of their stuff might look a bit gimmicky and/or throwaway but tonally they've always been on the money. Their original "hoof" is up there with my all time favourite fuzz pedals. No mean feat.
  6. Considering nobody wants 4x12s these days there is some serious bargains to be had on the second hand market. I'd agree they're overkill in most scenarios but people are so keen to get rid them you can pick them up for £50 to £100. Four 12inch broken-in Celestions for £50 is a pretty good deal, even for the bottom tier 70/80s. Just rip the speakers out and dump the cab if you don't have space for it. You can get pine boxes that are great for DIY speaker cabs from Bee-Keeper suppliers, ~£15 for one that perfect for a 1x12. £65 quid for a 1x12 and three spare speakers. If you've got the space and are either two lazy for a bit of woodworking or just hopeless with that kinda thing just disconnect 3 of the four speakers and run it as a 1x12. It's not a perfect setup, the disconnected speakers will still shift some air at higher volumes (albeit passively) and you'll still look like the type of dick who has a 4x12 in his bedroom but you'll be laughing all the way to the bank.
  7. To me that just gives me an idea why Rafa was let go and Bruce was hired. Bruce just doing exactly what he was hired to do.
  8. From one outsider who's got no right hovering around here to another: even I could tell you Joelinton isn't the problem. Hard to put the blame solely on Bruce either. . Proper dick move blaming the players at a club where the hierarchy signed off on letting Rafa walk in favour of bringing in Bruce.
  9. Woman walks past a pet store a see's a parrot in the window next to a big sign that says "Talking Parrot. Free to a good home. NO RETURNS!" and pops inside to find out more. She asks the shop owner "why is it free?", he replies "I need to be honest with you. The last two people brought the parrot back the next day. Truth is, this bird was rescued from a brothel and its prone to say some pretty crude and offensive things". She takes a chance on the foul mouthed parrot and takes it home. First thing it says is "New House! New Madame!". The woman expected worse and laughs it off. Her daughter arrive home from school and the parrot says "New House! New Madame! New Girls!". The daughters are a bit surprised but see the funny side after mum explains the parrots background. About an hour later dad gets home from work. The kids eagerly waiting to see what the parrot says. Dad walks into the room and the parrot just says "Hi Keith!"
  10. Bus breaks down in the middle of the road, blocking traffic at rush hour. The driver has a look at the engine to see if there's anything he can do while waiting to get towed. A woman in her garden notices the driver struggling without any tools and shouts over "do you want a screwdriver?" "not right now love, I'm trying to fix the bus"
  11. Better than any any of my claims to fame. I love the Wildhearts, especially Danny. That first Yo-Yos album is brilliant. Chris McCormack on the other hand isn't all that popular up this way. 3CR weren't bad (very "of their time" to be fair) and Chris ended up the main guy to speak to for gigs at the Ironworks up in Inverness. From what I gather was fairly likeable until he got involved with organising the Skye music festival. Now he's largely blamed for pissing the festival budget up the wall and the main reason there's no longer a Skye music festival. Don't quote me on that.
  12. I'm with you Tom. Paul Gilbert is my goto for guitar wankery these days. Just the right balance of cheese and chops. That said I could never be arsed with Mr Big. He's a massive and pretty vocal fan of one of your lots own lads, Ginger Wildheart from South Shields. Back to EVH, I honestly can't ever remember choosing to stick on a Van Halen album but I'd be lying through my teeth if I said he'd never influenced my guitar playing. More than half of the nonsense I listen to and obsess over probably wouldnt exist if it weren't for Eddie.
  13. Haha. I fought with loads of amp over the years until I got a jtm. It does everything I could ever with the exception of "bedroom" volume (but then, nobody really wants to play quiet and the times where it's necessary an old-school tube amp is a poor choice). Horses for courses. For every guy who wants a kemper there's a another who just wants an amp with one knob labelled "awesome". Tone not quite on the money? Turn up the awesome.
  14. Being an "analogue" pedal builder I probably shouldn't say this but digital stuff these days really impresses me. We've come a long way from the old Line 6 Spiders and Pods, Korg Tonemasters (or was it toneworks?) and those early cheap plastic zoom multieffects boxes. Even saying that, it was still possible to dial in somewhat usable tones with those 20 year old things if you spent enough time getting to know them. The Helix is a great bit of kit but personally I'm just too old and set in my ways to get creative with stuff like that. I could easily spend several hours playing around with different settings and getting lost in the menus without actually playing much guitar at all. I can't help but feel that half of the complaints guitar players make about their gear (be it digital, behringer stuff or whatever) stem from misunderstanding what it's meant to do. A JTM45 or blackface will never sound like a mesa, and a Kemper (with the right profiles) can totally nail whatever sound your after but won't necessarily feel or respond like the amp your modelling... Anyway excuse the rant, I'm gonna cut this weird rant short since I've just learned EVH just passed. Rest in Peace Eddie.
  15. The graphics I'll either etch or use waterslide decals for the most part, depends what's called for. Eching is a bit more involved and harder to recover from if you bollocks something up. Decal paper is a lot more forgiving, honestly I wish I'd discovered it earlier. Then clearcoat, typically I'll use a gloss polyurethane lacquer since guitar pedals take quite a lot of abuse. Poly can take more of a beating than the automotive clear coats. >> bare enclosure, can't be having that Don't tell anyone I said this but I honestly don't mind a bare enclosure. Most of the stuff I build for myself these days I never bother finishing. It's just going to lie on the floor getting kicked and beer spilled on it. (Edit to add:) most of the kits I've seen being sold look pretty decent. If you've got at least basic soldering skills I say go for it. If you ever run into any problems I'd highly recommend the diystompboxes forum. Great community thats been a far bigger help to me over the years than my electronics engineering background ever was. Aron who runs the forum and a whole host of other names that frequent the place were just featured in the last Premier Guitar magazine which was really nice to see.
  16. Depends who's asking! Ah more seriously it really depends on the type of pedal and what you want it to look like. That one Sammy bought I normally wouldn't have entertained for less than £120 but the guy and me have a lot of mutual friends. With things being slow and it being a really simple design and low parts-counts we'd agreed on £90 and a 12 pack of Guinness. Something more elaborate, say a delay or a chorus pedal with a more intricate graphic I'd probably be asking for anything from £150-£200. This isn't a full time thing for me, just something I occasionally do on the side. Feel free to PM me if you're looking for a quote for something, I'd usually need a 2-3 week lead time for something totally customised. I've got an Instagram account with a few other examples of my builds, I've just added it to my profile if it's of interest to anyone. Cheers
  17. Cheers Sammy. If you can't find me at the return address on the package I'll either be in the shed out the back garden or in the boozer two streets away. It doesn't suck tone at least, hope it plays nice with your rig. I used the same circuit to for a good 3 years to boost the front of a JTM45. I'll hit you up through ebay. Any issues give me a shout.
  18. Haha. If it sells at this price to a dude called Mark from central Scotland I'll be livid.
  19. I posted this in the Classified ads section a few days ago and was directed to this thread. I build guitar pedals and recently put together a custom build for a Newcastle fan who bailed on me, so I've thrown it up on ebay to try to recover my costs and time spent. Looking at this thread I see loads of good pedal talk here (good to see the Josh Scott videos getting shared) so here's some specifics, it's a stripped back (ditched the tone control) souped up (more gain if you need it) Tube Screamer. Its typical for a tubescreamer circuit: trademark low mid hump and works as overdrive with the gain control cranked or a boost with it backed off. I'll cut right to the chase and just say its 90% the Run Off Groove version of the circuit with a few tweaks since I found their iteration a bit harsh and overly bright. Cheers. Happy to answer any questions. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5575378759&campid=5338273189&customid=&icep_item=303693213514&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229508&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg&toolid=11111
  20. Great shout, thanks for that! Yeah it happens man. I don't blame the guy tbh. Not a good time to be a musician.
  21. Ah cash up front of course! Bit slow. Tonight. yeah normally I'd take a deposit at least. Friend of a friend, vouched for, seemed like a safe one and gave me ideas for some other stuff. Then the dude disappeared.
  22. Forgive my ignorance, what's C.U.F?
  23. As luck would have it I also have some Bill and Ted themed stuff listed if that's more to anyone's tastes!
  24. Hope this is allowed. I build custom guitar effects pedals and just finished a made to order build for a Newcastle Fan a few weeks ago. Long story short he's no longer buying it so I've thrown it up on ebay at a reduced price to recover my costs and time spent and thought it might interest some of you fine folk. It's listed as used but was literally just built around a fortnight ago and is in mint condition. Open to offers. I have no use for it. Cheers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303693213514
