aye. 83/84 is probably my favourite ever season. wasn't just the promotion and the fact we actually played some fantastic football. but the size of the away following was incredible, we literally took over so many grounds that season. it's quite sad really that because of the relatively small away allocations at grounds these days that the younger generations are unlikely to get the opportunity to witness it with the consistency we did that season.

noise was fucking deafening, before, during and after. fucking incredible.
-
just found this one amongst them, the night we took anfield, arguably the best away end I've ever been in.....
-
when we moved house at the beginning of the year I was sorting through the cupboard under the stairs and found these. I've never really been a programme buyer but for whatever reason I did actually buy a fair few during the 83/84 promotion season. there's most of the home programmes including keegan's farewell game against liverpool. bit disappointed there's not more of the away games ones there actually as I don't think I missed an away game that season. the oxford one is from 1990, it was my daughter's first ever match, she was 7 weeks old!

anybody remember or actually have any of these?...... they had a big article in the one which followed on from the game in royal antwerp with lots of photos of our supporters that night. theres one taken of some supporters who'd encroached in to the crumbling roped off upper portion of the terrace and im sat there plain as day in me red ralph lauren jacket. i'd love to get me hands on it again..... not that im a vain cunt or anything mind!

bruno's value has got to have at least doubled, gordon's possibly too. and it would be absolutely criminal if the club accepted anything less than a british record transfer fee for isak. I can't imagine losing money on botman, tonali or barnes either, so aye, fucking ludicrous to suggest these signing haven't been fit for purpose really. -
there needs to be more wanton violence towards the likes of hope, edwards and taylor, that would teach them I reckon. who can ever forget bruce's death stare to lee ryder? or laurent robert grappling with alan oliver and spilling his tea because he gave him a 3? the chronicle never steps put of line these days.

I saw that post by tdansmith a minute or two ago and thought it looked the back of the percy. I've not been out there in either home game this season so I've not seen the two sheds with gallowgate and leazes on. wasn't like that last season though. to be honest I think that's infinitely better than the redecoration on the inside of the pub, which in my.opinion is a fucking abomination. much, much preferred it how it was. there was cracking photos on the wall of nufc going back decades, hope to god they weren't all just binned. even had a photo up in memoriam of tommy 'little white bull' crane. not all change is for the better. -
wheezkeezleweeze getting in on the act... https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/sep/12/newcastle-solid-start-cant-mask-eddie-howe-uneasy-truce-with-hierarchy seems on the whole a rehash and late entry to the hope/edwards party. desperate for us smash the fuck out of the wolfie doodles this weekend and wor eddie refuse to enter any post match questions to any of these three.

google reckons the very first perimeter hoardings appeared at the '66 world cup... this article reckons advertising was about in the 30s but appears to confirm perimeter stuff to the 60s... https://p11.tv/history-of-perimeter-advertising/ I appear to have become slightly obsessed with this, apologies gentlemen!

I think I remember them as caseys rather than casers, but aye, I remember putting dubbin on them..was the inner still a pigs bladder by the late 60s/early 70s? I thought more a thick balloon type material, generally orange or maybe it was pink. I do remember there was an art to folding the flap over and preventing the sir leaking with the lace, again mind I'm dragging up memories here which should be long lost to the ravages of the thc mentioned in the 'vape' thread yesterday! anyway.... I'm genuinely interested now as to when advertising hoardings were common place round the side of the pitch at sjp. they were definitely there when I was a nipper in the mid 70s in the leazes as they were an obstacle (along with the line of coppers) which needed to be hurdled to run on the pitch at the end of the match. common place in those days by enthusiastic kids! they can clearly be seen in the photos just prior to the pitch invasion against forest. gonna have to give me old man (87 now) a ring this morning, see what he reckons.
-
I reckon it must've been a bit earlier than that but acknowledge that with age can come wisdom. (sometimes) can you remember when the football was actually a pig's bladder?
-
aye. just a bit surprised by the lack of advertising, sure it was about when I was a mini kid! looks like patches of snow on the pitch there which would suggest the photo was taken when the season was active. needs a proper old cunt like @Toonpack who'll be aware of when advertising first became a thing in football grounds.
-
do you know when that photo is dated from? there's no advertising hoardings round the pitch, my earliest memories are of being in the popular side in 67/68ish towards the gallowgate corner. no real memories now of the matches, can remember at times being freezing cold and bored, sure I'd sit with me legs underneath the boards chucking peanuts at pigeons on the cinder track.
-
at least make it worthwhile, vape a juice with a shit load of thc in it.

hard pushed to believe he had anything much more than a very rudimentary education, never mind go to uni. the stupid, lying mackem cunt.
-
@Dr Gloom... did you get a ticket in the home end for fulham? last season it wouldn't let me buy a one for the league game despite having registered and bought one for the fa cup, I assume because of not having enough points? anyway, because of that I never bothered checking till this morning and after logging in it seems it'll let me get one this time. no availability at all in the putney road end next to away support but there's some not too far away in the corner of the riverside stand for a bargain £105..... they can go and fuck themselves!
-
aye, never seen him for donkey's years, quite hard to miss him really with his distinctive tyne bridge tattoo! anyway, hope he's still going strong, whatever he's up to these days.

or as it's called in the medical profession, a minor sprain.
-
that east corner of what was left of the leazes terrace was where the cool cats used to hang out for a while in the mid 80s also upstairs in the east stand as near as you could get to the leazes as they'd give that last section to away supporters. was in there for the last game of the season against tottenham, was also chris waddle's last game for us before he fucked off to join them. got locked up for scrapping and ended up in market street dungeons till the early hours of sunday morning sharing a cell with jimmy fucking chargesheet! obviously I was innocent, not sure about jimmy.

what game is that a photo from?
