  1. The rumours about Madueke came from the I as well, so not just some random on twitter. I think it was Mark Douglas?
  2. Downie has said that Fulham potentially signing Anderson won't affect the Guehi deal. Presumably Parish is at least smart enough to know that with two years remaining on Guehi's contract he'll never get a better price than now. That fact should really strengthen our hand, and Anderson maybe going is the physical proof that they want to sell Guehi now.
  3. That sounds about right iirc. It did seem to be a short spell at Citeh, and he did quite well for them, so homesickness tracks.
  4. From what I was reading we're supposedly going to present a deal for Torres to Barca, but Torres doesn't want to leave Spain. Flick started him at the weekend, so he's obviously seen enough for him to want to fight for a place, or at least substantial playing time.
  5. Who's been the most strongly linked to Toney? I suppose Chelsea is the most obvious answer given they're linked to every bipedal male on the planet. If you forget about his suspect attitude, it would be a decent time to buy him in the last year of his contract. Don't think he'd really fit for us when we have other concerns, and obviously he'd be unlikely to want to play second fiddle to Isak.
  6. Palace have supposedly rejected our fourth bid. Fuck them. I'd have gladly taken Guehi, but he's not worth the ball ache that is Parish.
  7. Howe has supposedly set his stall out in his pre-Southampton press conference. He's said we won't pay silly money for players, clearly referencing Parish's attempts at rinsing us in public with all his quotes in the media. It's uncharacteristic from Eddie, but he no doubt believes that it's only fair he say his piece after Parish did. This really does seem like our last take it or leave it offer.
  8. Well there's clearly something about Guehi that Howe et al value over the players you mentioned. Players that both failed to make their countries Euros squads.
  9. He's been an England international for about two years, so I just don't see a young English player who's been highly rated for a significant period of time going for 30. He'd need to be in the final year of his contract or something along those lines. And you could probably have said the same thing about Ben White before Arsenal bought him off Brighton. In any case it's just a matter of opinion given we'll never now how much a club would have paid for him pre-Euros.
  10. We need to take his age into account as well when we evaluate his transfer fee. He's just turned 24, so we could conceivably have him for three years and lose very little on his value should we wish to sell in that time, and conversely we could have a mainstay of the team for the next ten years.
  11. Guehi was already recognized as one of the best young English defenders in the PL before the Euros, it's why he was picked. There's no way you'd be buying him for 30m. There was already talk that he'd go for 50 at least, if not 60m. The precident in recent memory had already been set with a player like White at Arsenal who went for 50m.
  12. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11706/13196984/marc-guehi-transfer-crystal-palace-defender-insists-he-can-put-attention-to-one-side-amid-newcastle-interest
  13. He seems a bit less combative than the text of what he was saying makes it seem. The comment about them being nowhere near having to make a decision is concerning, but given how careful he was to not say that Guehi wasn't interested, and the comment about an outcome where everyone is happy, again I don't think his comments are too much to worry about.
  14. Parish the Palace chairman has been quoted as saying that anyone who wants Guehi will have to pay superstar money. Whether this means he's not happy with our latest offer I have no idea. Parish looks a right prick. It wouldn't surprise me if he's Levy level difficult to deal with. Oh he also said nobody has bid what they want yet, but who knows how recent these quotes are. I think I'm right in saying they originally came from the Evening Standard.
  15. Longstaff with his shooting boots on. Where have they been all this time 😉😂
  16. Newcastle's second bid for Marc Guehi is REJECTED by Crystal Palace https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-13727123/Newcastles-bid-50m-Marc-Guehi-REJECTED-Crystal-Palace-hope-deal-struck-Oliver-Glasners-hold-minimum-65m-defender.html?ito=native_share_article-nativemenubutton
  17. Yeah Mitchell should get a nobel prize if he manages that.
  18. Well Guehi will hopefully replace Lascelles in time. He can play both sides of defence and is right footed, so it will be him and Botman as first choice, and obviously it seems to be the plan to replace Almiron if we can move some assets out. The rest it's the old story of high wages and little interest, so they'll be difficult to shift.
  19. Quality over quantity, for the first 11 at least 😂, so Guehi, hopefully, and whoever we get for RW are all we really need to worry about for this window.
  20. Romano has said that Gonzalez is very likely to pick a team from Italy to join as opposed to moving to the PL. Apart from Guler, and maybe Raphinha, he was the name I was most excited about seeing linked to us. Plus it also seemed more likely given he'd be less than half the price of the aforementioned.
  21. According to Joel Bland we've stuck another bid in for Guehi this lunchtime. Of course it's very easy to say that and not be called out given everyone is aware that negotiations are ongoing.
  22. Just seen that the Athletic confirmed that we at least hold an interest in him.
  23. An Italian journo with a sizeable social media following has confirmed that Gonzalez is meeting the Fiorentina bosses today to tell them he wants to leave. Us, Juve, and another club are named as being interested. Supposedly Fiorentina and Juve hate each other, so perhaps that will help us should we go for him.
  24. Man City with a load of money burning a hole in their pocket probably isn't a good thing. Bruno saying how much he loves it at the club has allayed some fears, but money talks at the end of the day. Hopefully they'll be looking for a direct replacement for Alvarez as opposed to putting the money into midfield.
