  1. What do you attribute the lower death rate to? It's so small compared to the initial peak. The numbers on ventilators are small too.
  2. There was a story on the news earlier taking about a covid victim and the photo of him was him wearing a mask beneath his nose
  3. J69 arguing with himself. Nobody has credited the government as far as I can see. Not in this thread anyway. Most reasonable people can pass judgement on a single policy without being in favour of those who passed it. Ironically those who don't seem to be able to can usually be found complaining about how polarised politics have become because of social media.
  4. So what's the policy then? If you have 999 million use the scheme but a billion then you can't? Oh but you can't lay anyone off either you have to pay them whilst your business has no revenue. I mean I get and share the disdain for billionaires, but you're being silly.
  5. Putting words into my mouth. I'm for the policy and think it should be extended, like Germany's, not once have I said anything about the government's motives.
  6. I don't get what your alternative suggestion is? Make it a law that billionaires pay for employees they have no work for?
  7. Because I'm in favour of employers saving jobs using the furlough scheme? Probably the most radically socialist policy the tories have ever passed..
  8. I suppose all the other business owners that have been using the scheme are skint. He's as entitled to use it as anybody. It'd have cost him tens of millions every month to cover the furlough costs of all of his employees. It wouldn't bankrupt him but it's not a realistic expectation
  9. And I dare say that the club has paid enough tax to be able to use the scheme without conscience.
  10. I'm not exactly defending that. I'm saying that football clubs are small-fry in terms of profitability compared to othet companies using the scheme. Let's not forget the hit to the clubs matchday income too. Ashley covering all of it would be a noble gesture and good p.r, but I don't agree with the clamour and expectation for him to.
  11. So what? Should Ashley cover the furlough costs for all of his other businesses too? He's not even that cash rich, much of his wealth is in assets.
  12. Well every company could do that but it's not realistic, hence the furlough scheme. Despite the players wages, the club isn't exactly hugely profitable compared to other businesses using the scheme.
  13. It's not unnecessary if the alternative is to lay them off because there's no work.
  14. Company i work for turns over about 30 billion and has people furloughed. I think football clubs are an easy target for virtue signallers.
  15. Apparently the sticking point is Ashley wants "house of" written above his name on his shirt.
