It's not really comparable to the Keegan situation given that Carr has done one. Prices are mental and we need half a dozen signings. A couple of those at least will be short term cheap options, either loans or frees. Until we know what we can pick up cheap we're stuck knowing where to put our eggs. Quality players are commanding fees that would eat up more than half of our realistic budget. We need to see what we can pick up on loan or cheap first then go big on whatever is required afterwards. We'll spend plenty of money it's just a minefield knowing where to start. I think we're looking to sort out a few issues at reasonable cost before committing to bigger purchases

There's a tipping point though, sometimes it's better to punt on the cheap plan b than paying way over the odds for your main targets if the money simply isn't there. I'm with ewerk, a panic buy involves blowing a load of cash. Cheap last-minute options are a sign of a plan B that didn't involve bidding twice a player's value, or 60x in Spurs case
