Steve McClaren sacked as Newcastle United 'Head Coach' (Manager)
Graing replied to Tooj's topic in Newcastle Forum
He has an incentive in his contract to win a cup. Hope that's true. Ambition will be a foreign approach. Now let's see if Ashley "bolts the cart on the horse" and starts the signings. -
You would think so. You'd think you can only go to that trick once. i do think he had some real sense of concern though. As far as the fan base goes, he'll know that the opposite of love is not hate, but apathy. You can turn angry fans around and get match goers back in because fundamentally the passion is still there - just needs redirected. Once apathy sets in though, he's got a problem. That's when his income will start dying on the vine. Protests, as annoying as they probably are to him, aren't as frightening as the prospect of widespread apathy.

I've actually been thinking this exact thing, but I don't want to be a conspiracy theorist.... You must admit that it's more than plausible with Ashley though. You aren't a billionaire by being an idiot.

I think you are between stages 1 and 2. Most seem to be at 5. I am between stages 4 & 5 myself... But I'll probably have depression and acceptance coexist for a while. When we see that no real talent will be brought in, I will be back at stage 1 again. I think may try to go FishOptimist mode before the season starts. -
It's quite a statement about how awful Carver was and how fearful people are of Ashley screwing the club again that we're hoping for McClaren. While this selection isn't as disastrous as it could be (and may still be - nothing's official yet), it leaves me less inclined to take Ashley at his word that he will bring some talent in and "bolt the cart on the horse". Even if McClaren is serviceable, without meaningful investment in talent, he'll not fare much better with the current squad than the last two "coaches".

At least he stopped doing the podcasts where he spent 90% of the time explaining how he was not a club mouthpiece. -
Well Ryder spewed something about it (not an actual act of journalism), so must be a red herring. He took busy time away from "Top 5" articles to rub salt in fans' wounds by bringing up the ole Kebob. Would love to see him back, but I think he is Palace bound or somewhere else in London.

Cowards!

So a man that failed at Derby and told us to piss off twice. Quality. Not much you can expect when you tell prospective coaches that they have no say over transfers and such. Better than Carver. Meh.

Isn't he Man City's Carver? Hope he gets it over McLaren.
-
I honestly don't think Jonas wanted to stay. I think he's had words for both Carver and Ashley and has no problem moving on.
-
The longer they wait, the bigger chance it may be Carver. It should have been dismissed out of hand, the notion he could carry on after that shocking tailspin. The fact that it wasn't tells me they are "keeping their options open". They wait long enough to make a choice, and there won't be much of a choice. And what signings can they bring in with the coaching spot unknown? No one of any quality. If we are still debating this at the end of June, we're screwed.

Player of the season : I'd say Perez Worst : Hard to not say Williamson, but Gouffran was also pretty awful Best moment : Jonas' goal Worst : Right before the last game, when Ashley said that Charnley will be responsible for selecting the next coach. I knew we were screwed for next season as well Best goal : Again, Jonas' Best game : The win over Chelsea Worst : The game against QPR at the end. Just when we thought they had hit bottom and stopped digging, they dropped even further Worst Pardew quote : can't really remember any so I'll go with 'Fanks Mike', as I'm sure he said it many times Worst Carver quote : I think I'm the best coach in the league

It's a no-win for him really. Either he's dirty, or he's shown to be incompetent and uninformed. He may be safe from the Feds if he was savvy enough to launder his money through the Clinton Foundation (like the folks in Qatar), as the Feds won't go anywhere near the Foundation.

They've snared enough that someone will roll on Blatter. Just a matter of time I think.

Think it was the Russian job that tilted it actually

Charnley is so out of his depth as MD. I can't understand how he still has his job to honest. Convenient fall guy for Ashley who will hold the financial line. Maybe Ashley's just a loyal guy, but I would have announced Carver and Charnley's departures both after the WHU match.

It may very well have been that he came to a realization about how much money he almost lost and broke into a cold sweat. I'm going to choose to be optimistic for now and we'll see how the coach situation plays out.

Watching his reactions after the goals yesterday and watching the interview, it almost seemed to have the feel of Scrooge after the visit from the ghost of Christmas yet to be. I want to believe that's the case, but the cynic in me says it's either a PR ploy, or if it was indeed genuine reaction, it will pass in short order.

a good one at that, at least the intro.
