Pardew said he wants a defender who can score 8 goals a season and by all accounts Douglas is a powerful defender and good going forward.

Last year of contract. Apparently very good, expects to get into the dutch national side hence wanting to wait till the end of August.

I'm going to try an be positive this window, those players you've listed plus the two already bought equates to £33 million, we've offloaded £5 million and recent reports suggest Simpson and Harper will be going too ( should get £3 million for the pair ) if all above was to happen would we really need to sell? I think even ashley realises how important some of our players are to success, he is a business man after all and a very good one. If anyone was to go I could only see the likes of Ba and that would be after July when we can get proper money. If the above were all to come off that would be a spend of £25 million which in today's market for six players is very good. I personally don't see any of our "top" players leaving.

Under a month till the draw now...keep looking on wiki to see who is playing who in the first couple rounds. Accourding to wiki our seeding for the play-off is yet to be confirmed..already worrying lol! Would be a massive let down to draw a dodgy team and not qualify.

I have to backtrack my previous as I thought he only had a year left on his contract, Here till 2014. I wonder if he is happy with his role at the club now or whether it's a case of "I won't get any better else where" I have to admit last season his ability to kill a game off was very impressive and his touch was sharp. Even with all these extra games I still can't see him starting many if any.

Massively, and that's my worry if he comes back. People forget he caused us a lot of problems and we don't have time in a busy season to task one of our senior players to babysit him. Saying that though I can't remember seeing him in the headlines for the wrong reasons at Liverpool.

Pardew seems to be a very good man manager, Can't remember us having any player problems recently?? I think if Andy came he would need to realise that he isn't the big man anymore and that the team is not centred around him.

The reasons above would make sense why we only want him on loan initially

I can't see us paying the £20 million which has been touted. If he came I would us to keep Cisse and Ba, i think our attack would look good although I can't see us focusing the team around Andy this time.

I can see this being his last season with us. If Carroll were to return and we keep Cisse and Ba then where would that leave Shola? We have the young Ameobi and Vuckic (although you could say he is more of a midfielder now)
