i was about to post exactly the same thing. one again freddie gets his timing spot on

classic quote from david craig. "souness is a big boy. he's always known the price on the ticket"
-
take shepherd with you on your way out
-
if robson was still in charge i'm sure we'd still be challenging for a top 4 spot. be careful for what you wish for indeed. if souness takes us down it'll be the most monumental fuckup in the history of football and shepherd must take the blame.

I think you're wrong about him being a PR disaster. The bloke was hounded by the English press more than any previous English manager, simply because he was foreign. Ignoring his private life (what concern is it of ours?), in his professional responsibilities he would seem a good choice - there'd certainly be no "jobs for the boys". Agree about him costing a fortune though. I can't believe you'd turn your nose up at Sven because he has no flair, but your first choice is Captain Longball, Martin O'Neill. 85112 Ericksson plays horrible negative football even though he has some of the best players in the planet available to him - what do you imagine he will be like here? O'Neill on the other hand has the intelligence to play his team according to the players' ability, he has proved he can work with little money. Besides, I think accusing him of playing the long ball game doesn't really stand up to analysis; at least not the games I have watched. I reckon you're just repeating a tired cliche without having a clue whether it's true or not. I think a lot of people criticise Allerdyce quite unfairly for the same misperception. When appointing a manager, to me the most important thing to look at is their CV - a difficult concept for some it seems, since we ended up with Souness last time and some supported that appointment . Ericksson's CV doesn't impress me at all from what I can remember, although if he is ever truly in the frame for the Newcastle job I will study it more closely. 85118 i'm a fan of o'neil but he does favour 3 at the back, a big target man up front and a direct style of play. tbh though i couldn't care if we're occasionally dull to watch. o'neil is a winner as is eriksson. neither set their teams out to play a free flowing brazilian style game, but i would happily sacrafice that for a manager that knows how to win a trophy or two. chelsea are often boring to watch, precisely because you have to be if you want to succeed in the modern game. all the best managers build their team from the back. another highlight of souness's ineptitude....he rates the likes of bramble and elliot and he cained £8.5m on boumsong.

I think they were when we first employed them. I was delighted with Dalglish but not Gullit personally. 84319 aye - i'd go along with that. both arrived with big reputations. shame that both failed miserably like.

Things are 20 times better than they were before Shepherd and the Halls mate. Before 1992 Jim Smith was our 8th EIGHTH choice of manager in 1988, even fuckwits such as Souness wouldn't have looked at us, all we were was a stepping stone for managers AND players, even Geordies. 84151 That my friend is very true, but as i only started supporting the Toon since Ossie was in charge as i was only bout 7 at the time i can't really state that, but when you look back it's clearly alot better with the club nearly going bust n such and it must have been shocking having to see the likes of Pedro, Waddle, Gazza all going onto pastures new 84194 that is true mate, and if you look at that and around at other chairman at other clubs we could do a lot lot worse than Shepherd in spite of his faults, for a start not many people would be prepared to put up the amount of money it would take to buy out Shepherd without wanting a say in the club and they couldn't do better regarding backing managers with cash, an area where Shepherd has excelled in. He has only appointed one manager that supporters generally weren't happy with, and even then some backed him as we have seen on this message board. 84304 .....couldnt resist! Basically the cash should have been made available whoever was in charge cos it's been there to dole out. Some Chairmen might not have but that doesnt make FF God Almighty for having actually done it. Re everything else, he's a PR disaster who brings the club into disrepute and brings standards down generally. He makes us look like a laughing stock with his soundbites and undermines the managers that he does bring in in the process. He's weak in all the areas where you need a chairman to be strong. 84307 agreed. he's an embarrasment. his only redeeming feature is that he backs his managers with cash. but if the money is there, he should be doing exactly that... especially considering how much he leeches off the club. it's not as if he's putting his hand in his own pocket and personally financing transfers. a good chairman would do exactly that right now. even though souness has to go, it's obvious we're short on squad players. if we don't sign anyone (which is looking increasingly likely) before the transfer window closes, and we don't sack souness, we're in real danger of going down. freddie is playing a dangerous game with the club's future now. he backed souness to the hilt in the summer. now he doesn't want to pay him off or sign any new players for the sake of a few million. it could cost us a lot more if we're relegated.

Totally agree with that. There is no way that I could single out any player for critisism after what was a completely non existant team performance on Saturday. The fact Given got man on the match for one (admittedly superb) save speaks volumes. Having said that, after spending 9.5m on him I think it is certainly understandable that people are concerned. I just wish they tried getting behind him instead of on his back. 84173 booing him off is a digrace. it seems that some people almost want him to fail.

why are wigan in the carling cup final? why is souness still our manager? why am i talking to myself when i have to get up for work in 5 hours?
-
why is our club such a fucking joke? everything is geared up for success....stadium, facilities, money, support etc etc...yet we remain a national laughing stock. why god why?
-
why is everyone having a dig at luque? there were 9 other players out there that were just as bad as worse. seems the spaniard has taken shola's role as scapegoat of the month
-
Did anyone say it wasn't about the money? 84084 Show me the money tbh 84095
-
too right. especially if souness persists with the long ball game.
-
last time i saw him he was laughing on his way to the bank
-
they were a good partnership ten years ago.
-
everywhere.
-
dunno about predicting every game but i think we'll be too inconsistent to finish in the european places, despite the quality in the squad, and souness will walk...possibly before the end of the season.
-
like the great man said... ..."i am the one and only me. "
-
I got up at nine, she got up at ten.
-
i know he's highly rated but he looks a donkey to me.
-
