  1. so is everyone still optimistic about the new season under our new owners?
  2. surely if mort is going to run the club, he should relocate to the area? that combined with the fact that big sam isn't being backed AT ALL makes me think ashley might try and get out while the going's good. i wonder is shepherd would be in the running to take the club off ashley's hands
  3. milner may well go on to contribute more for us than dyer has, but i don't think he will ever be the player dyer is in terms of pace or natural ability to run with the ball and go past players. if milner goes on to achieve more for us than dyer has (which i suspect he may do), it will be because of the hard work he puts into his game.
  4. Ashley's Newcastle future not black and white Matt Scott Tuesday July 31, 2007 The Guardian Mike Ashley's investment at Newcastle United may be a short-lived affair, if rumours in the City are to be believed. The billionaire businessman declared in a rare interview published on Sunday that his involvement at Sports Direct, the company he founded and in February floated for £2.2bn, remained a "long-term" business interest but he is not believed to have the same intentions for Newcastle. There is a suggestion that, having snapped up the club so quickly that even the former chairman Freddy Shepherd - then a major shareholder - was taken by surprise, he is encountering more problems than he expected. One interested party reports that it did not like what it saw when it conducted due diligence over the club's books before a potential takeover. There was particular concern about the debt inside the company and it is felt that Ashley will be uncovering an unhealthier business than he anticipated. The manager, Sam Allardyce, has begun to grumble about the amount of money available for signings and Shepherd was shown the door last week. Analysts who have followed Ashley's career suggest his hands-on style means he is not one to have his investments run by proxies. But the chairman he appointed at Newcastle, Chris Mort, does not intend to relocate to the north-east, fuelling the rumours that Ashley may be persuaded to bail out if a suitable buyer emerges.
  5. as it looks like we're not signing many more players, we're going to need players like luque at least turning up occasionally
  6. for the last time, he's not tall enough!
  7. i'd be excited about the season ahead if i was a west ham fan.
  8. this martins story might be bollocks but it does look like we're having to sell before we buy. you'd think a billionaire owener would be looking to invest upon taking over a new club but he doesn't seem interested in splashing the cash so far.
  9. i don't think emre's world class but i'd say he's a far better player in midfield than smudger smith. smith would be a half decent sub as a striker but i don't rate him in midfield at all. he's a bit of a liability in the middle of the park and his goals to games ratio doesn't doesn't stack up enough to warrant spending £6m on him as a striker imo. More of a liability than Emre? I know which I'd rather have. seriously? smith in midfield over emre? I don't think you understand just how little I rate Emre. I'd take Jenas back over him. i don't think emre has benefited from playing alongside parker during his time here. he might surprise a few people under a new manager and alongside different players. even if his performance levels don't rise too much, he's got to be a better bet than smith - who looks pretty poor in midfield - and jenas.

  12. Decent player. Our central midfield isnt the strongest. Emre needs to sort himself out or leave. Barton, Geremi and Butt are decent. Dyer is off. We have very little there and Smith is a decent player to bolster numbers really, aswell as being versatile to some extent. Barton, Butt, Geremi, Zog, Emre that can all play in the middle. Alan Smith isn't a better midfielder than any mentioned. Pointless signing. He's better than Emre. So is Amdy Faye though. you're joking right? About Faye, yes. Smith is better than that useless pile of shite Emre though. don't be silly. emre is a far better footballer than smith

  14. i'm not a fan of smith and i don't think we really need him anyway.
  15. the lack of movement in the transfer market is worrying considering our squad is probably weaker than it was this time last season. the guy is a billionaire and needs to start splashing the cash sharpish - the likes of man city, pompey and man city are all spending.
  16. He is very good at hitting a ball very hard and quite good going forward. I wouldn't say he was a very good defender though. and yet he's been good enough to be first choice left back for one of the meanest defences in the premiership for a few years now. he's about a million times better than anything we have in that position and he's decent at left wing too, not that that article suggests he's going anywhere.
  17. straight swap for lennon would be alreet like
  18. ...as long as we replace him with a better player
  19. i didn't see the game but that defence on paper looks truley dire
  20. yeah but he's not tall enough apparently
  21. just watching robocop now. classic paul verhoeven
  22. hackney's not that bad man.
