if we get this serbian centre half i think the defence is looking pretty good for numbers all of a sudden but we could still do with a natural right back to keep carr out of the team, although this is the one area that we can probably get by on given geremi and solano can both play there. i think we're ok actually for holding midfielders - butt, geremi and barton can all do a job in that position. if i was to be really greedy, i'd try and get an attacking flair player that can give us an option out wide or in the middle. someone in the deco mould, but a more realistic target. so just two more signings and i'll be lookign forward to the new season for once - i just hope we can get off to a good start. i can't remember us flying out of the traps since the year we signed robert and bellamy. a good start sets the tone for the season - as does our usual sticky start!

are you happier than you were this time last season? is the squad big enough? do you expect us to challenge for more with the new players and the new manager than we did under roeder and souness? how many players short are we from challenging the top 4-6? do you expect any more arrivals before the window closes? if you could sign one player or type of player who or what would it be? 20 questions i know but i want to talk footie. roll on the weekend. summers with no international football tournament or ashes to keep you distracted are a damp squib.

watched carlito's way last night. classic turns from pacino and penn. pacino is as hammy as ever but i love it -
this is the best toon forum i've found. newcastle online moves much quicker but there's far too many plebs over there. the only thing that lets this place down is that it's a bit slow to move on at times but i guess that's the price for better quality posters. all the good comment on NO gets burried among the dross.

Allardyce hits out at Curbishley over Dyer farce

bizarre quotes those like. wtf is he on about? -
absolutely! i thought it sounded very unprofessional when the news broke over the weekend but what a masterstroke if he pulls it off. still; it does suggest that are financial situation is pretty dire as we're clearly fighting for every penny we can get at the moment. and it doesn't portray us in the best light when it comes to future negotiations. No it doesn't. If we were that desperate we'd have sold him. i'm not claiming to know everything that's gone on in this deal Fuck, are you sure about that? hey, feel free to spill the beans if you know something the rest of us don't I don't claim to know anything inside the circle at SJP. But I don't base my arguments on assumptions like you and make out they are fact. The new heirarchy has always said it will not let information like how much the club can spend out in the open. Yet you deduce points based on the fact the club is haggling over Dyer's price? And what does haggling have to do with other clubs' intentions to buy our players then? If we offered say 6 million for a player but only paid 4.5 million then I'd be concerned. But I think the new regime are doing a fine job. You are a chronic pessimist. You are used to the club doing the shit. Don't assume for a change and see how accurate you are, and wait and be patient for a change!!! neither do i and nor have i claimed that the assumptions we're debating are set in stone. i'd say 99 per cent of what is debated on this board is based on assumptions - as are a majority of tabloid newspaper articles. and it's silly season - there's not much else to talk about before the season kicks off is there?

seems an odd choice to me like.

i'm not panicking as much as i was last week.

Chucking away £2m is just not sensible (especially when it's likely because a player wants to go somewhere but will give up NOTHING for it). ca And again sending out the message that we are NO LONGER Fat Fred's circus and his open wallet negotiations can only be a good thing. Being nice doesn't help you succeed in business, but being a ruthless fecker that no one gets one over on generally does. i'm all up for squeezing as much money out of the icelandic abramovich as possible. just seems a little weird to me that we up the asking price after already agreeing a fee and sending the player down south for his medical. fair play if he pulls it off mind.

Anyone got the feeling we're going to be good this season?
Dr Gloom replied to Row Z's topic in Newcastle Forum
we could finish as high as 6th or as low as 16th in my opinion. i think we're probably too good to go down but a way away still from challenging the big boys. You've committed yourself there like if i'm honest i don't expect us to finish that much higher than last season. a top half finish should be the least we're expecting given the size of the club but we finished too close to the relegation zone for comfort last season so i wouldn't rule out another scrap at thw wrong end of the table either. a lot will depend on how the relatively unknown foreign signings sam has made bed in. hopefully cacapa will be the next gallas instead of the next boumsong. -
let's hope he can keep up this goals to game ratio

Southgate thinks it was an achievement to bid for Smith
Dr Gloom replied to TheMoog's topic in Newcastle Forum
aye. i think their season could rest on tuncay being as good as the hype around him -
assuming this is true, why didn't we decide the player was undervalued BEFORE we agreed a fee with west ham? micky mouse tbh. even fat fred wouldn't have done that.

sam's quotes on the matter: "We in the end decided that Kieron was under-valued, we lifted the valuation to what we thought was realistic, and West Ham didn't want to roll with it. "So Kieron is back with us in a squad that is growing. "He signed a lengthy contract, something happens and it doesn't work, we come back and get on with it. It's not a hard life - it's a very pressured life, but it's not a hard one! "He comes back, you go forward ? if West Ham don't increase their offer then clearly they don't value him as highly as we do. "West Ham are not as upset as we are about West Ham. Curbs started it - we are more upset than them, and that's a fact."

micky mouse club tbh. will be shocking if they finish above us again -
Enrique is extremely highly rated in Spain. I know I spoke highly of Luque, but if we manage to pull this transfer off I'll be over the moon. shut up man you'll put your luque curse on him! to be fair though, he can't do worse than our previous two spanish imports...
