  1. i think the pianist is the best film about the holocaust to date
  2. Are you off the meds? The ending is perfect. One of the best films ever made tbh. i dunno. i loved the film. it was beautifully paced and creepy in a way modern horror films aren't - mia farrow just seemed to a little too accepting of the endgame to me. i thought she'd put up a little more resistance to assuming her role as mother of satan tbh.
  3. i'd say underachieving given the standard of the team we've played so far (ie none of the 'big 4')
  4. i can't be arsed to use that bbc predict thing but i'd say somewhere between mid-lower table obscurity.
  5. he's been our best striker this season by a country mile. hopefully now sam will be forced to play him for the good of the team.
  6. films i've seen recently: downfall - total class. just a bit gutted i chalked it up on dvd a week before it was on telly. 5/5 rosemary's baby - loved it. creepy and atmospheric throughout although the ending was a bit of a let down. 4/5 kung fu hustle - good cgi and amusing in places but i'd had enough about an hour in. 2/5 miller's crossing - an early-career corker from the cohen brothers. 4/5
  7. i actually quite enjoyed hostel for what it was. a film of two halves. first half - porn, second - slasher/horror.
  8. strange career move for bruce like. i would have thought he could have gotten a better club than wigan.
  9. on paper it looks like it could be a classic. both undefeated. the brawler against the boxer. i can hatton taking him all the way but ultimately mayweather's class should be the difference between the two. i reckon floyd will win on points. although i would love to be proved wrong. hatton is a top boy, mayweather a total arsehole. plus hatton always raises his game against the strongest opponents. they don't come much bigger than this....if hatton wins he'll go down as the best pound for pund fighter in the world and one of britain's all-time greats.
  10. do we need him? we've got taylor, rozenhal, faye, cacapa and beye that can all play at centre back. plus ramage to return from injury if we're desperate. i'd sooner sam looked at some creative forward options as that's where we're painfully short.
  11. agreed. the most misguided signing by far of sam's tenure so far.
  12. we never should have sacked him. we've been on a downward curve ever since. loving this line - He is regarded along with the likes of Alan Bennett and Elton John as "a national treasure," famed for his overwhelming desire to talk football and for storming out of an England press conference and walking straight into a Wembley broom cupboard, but that is to entirely misread the man.
  13. as much as i have me doubts about big sam, getting rid of him now would be total madness and reverting to type after a solid start from ashley & mort.
  14. definitely martins. owen has been a total flop tbh.
  15. howay man. taylor scores 7 in the magness league
  16. and carr returning to fitness is positive news because....?
  17. maybe they'll fancy a straight swap for smudger smith
  18. no. not what from what i've seen. that's why gemmil, the fish et al's posts have seemed so ott to me.
  19. quoted for truth. nowt wrong with telling it like you see it. i don't see too many people calling for sam's head. more a case of a few raised eyebrows after the mananger consistently playing players out of position. and our results so far aren't that impressive when you consider we haven't played any of the big four.
  20. Well I think I do And Jimbo forgot to mention he played Zoggy at left back, out of position, and not where he does best. I think the majority of us know that better than Sam. And anyway, why does he keep doing that when HE brought in Enrique who has proven(IMO) that he can do a decent job there. Zoggy is more of an attacking threat when he plays wide left than he is at left back. You don't have to be a nucleor-scientist to recognize that. AND, to play Taylor at right back, out of position, when HE brought Beye in to play that position would indicate(IMO) that he's lacking some know-how. Beye has proven he is a decent right back whereas Taylor is like a loose cannon subject to misfiring. Shall I go on? of course I will. Milner plays best wide right so why does Sam play him on the left? Sunderland's left back is not the fleetest of foot and Sam should know that and exploited it by pitting Milner against him. Milner is not the fleetest of foot either but he can get past people, more so when he plays wide right. sshh. you're only allowed to say things like that after allardyce has been in charge for 100 games.
  21. i'd say he's sold most of the creative players he inherited and failed to replace them
  22. To be fair Mr. Gemmill, perhaps you're right in your assessment of my efforts, so in all fairness to you and the others who appear to think the same way you do, I promise never to start a new topic. Take no notice man Noelie, people are just cheesed off. agreed. don't stop posting new threads noellie - they're class
  23. I don't think you can say that someone "never learns" when you're looking at a sample of 12 league games. If he's making the same mistakes a year from now I'd be more prepared to accept the suggestion that he "never learns" from them. so you agree he's making mistakes. i think you probably feel the same about sam so far as the rest of us. i don't see too many people saying we should sack him, just questioning his selections and asking whether he really is the man to take us further than our last few managers.
  24. I honestly believe that Big Sam hasn't had chance to play his first 11 down to injuries and suspensions. as an aside, what would your first 11 be? playing players in their correct positions would be a start. something like: -----------------given beye-----faye-------rozehnal-----enrique milner---butt--------barton-------n'zogbia ----------viduka-----owen ....for example
