  1. hope you're right like. can't see why someone like mourinho would fancy it though
  2. i thought the managerial merry go round ended with the last buffoon of a chairman. sacking big sam half a season into the job, standing with the away support and wearing his toon top at every game....our new chairman is looking every bit as much as a laughing stock as shepherd was. the only reason i could give for sacking a manager so early into his tenure is if we're in a relegation battle - we're not. we're actually still better off points-wise than we were this time last season. despite the dross served up recently, i feel sam should have been given much more time. talk of shearer and redknapp is depressing but predicitable - who else is going to fancy a crack at the poisoned challice? unless ashley can pull off a coup and bring in someone like mourinho or lippi (which i highly doubt), then i think he's got it wrong. all the other managers linked so far would be a sideways step. and his timing is also shepherd-esque. half way into the transfer window so if we do get a new man in before it closes, he'll have little to no chance of bringing in any new players. the rest of the country is laughing at us. pathetic
  3. my missus made me watch that. absolutely fucking dire. they don't make romcoms like they used to. not my favourite genre by a long stretch but i can't remember enjoying one since when harry met sally.
  4. frustrating talent but he had magic in his boots, unlike most of our current squad.
  5. romario isn't a bad shout actually. he was on top of his game during the same period as shearer (93-96), while ronaldo didn't emerge until a few years later. here's a shearer stat. in three seasons, he scored 96 goals in 117 games for blackburn
  6. Better than Ronaldo? Other than that, you're right. oooh - a tough call. for skills obviously not. in terms of his threat as an out and out goal scorer, possibly. he scored over 30 league goals three times in the premiership for blackburn. that's unheard of these days. the shearer that had the legs to beat his man and work the chanels was the best english striker of his generation. shame he had to adapt his game after he signed for us because of all the injuries. owen will do well to adapt his game anywhere near as well if the injuries take their toil i actually wonder whether capello will look at other options up front now. it's still early days but it doesn't look too promising for owen. i doubt he'll ever lose his finishing or his movement but you've got to wonder whether the knee injury will mean he has to radically change his game. he'd already lost a bit of pace before he signed for us but he seems pedestrian now.
  7. it's fucking typical that owen has the injury that could potentially mean he's never the same player again after he signs for us in a club record deal. not unlike shearer tbh. despite all the goals, shearer was never the same player was for us that he was for blackburn. before his injuries at blackburn he was the best striker in the world.
  8. presume the reason smith didn't make the list is that it's widely agreed by all now that he's rubbish. otherwise he would have been my choice
  9. it wouldn't, but barton could do with a stint on the naughty chair.
  10. i thought he was a useful player but he seems to have turned a bit shite the last season or two. should fit in well with our lot then
  11. just as i thought. apart from a red hot season at bournemouth, not that impressive: West Ham United (1999–2004) 93 games, 29 goals Bournemouth (loan) (2000-2001) 29 games 18 goals Tottenham Hotspur (2004–present) 136 games, 42 goals
  12. Arguably what he deserves but I fail to see what good that does the club, which is my primary concern. i can only see him getting into more trouble in the future if we hang on to him. he looks a serial offender to me and he's not even looked a good player. if it was maradona you could make an exception but i think we're better off getting rid. even if he does do the whole reform thing at tony adams' place and we keep him on, i still fully expect him to attack a teammate with a cigar or something at some stage Getting rid is different to letting him rot though, make your mind up. get rid or let him rot in the reserves. i'm not fussy.
  13. he's shit. thus eduth the debate
  14. 1 in every 2 PL starts at Spurs iirc. A tad overrated though, I agree. Better allround player than Martins though. I wouldn't be too fussed in Owen left instead of Martins were Defoe to come though as I think he's nowhere near the player he was. i didn't realise it was so good. last time we were linked with him i seem to remember someone posting his career ratio and it was worse than 1 in 3. i could be wrong like. can anyone be arsed to look it up?

  16. leave him to rot i say. he's bad news
  17. i'm not convinced he'll score more goals than martins tbh. he's a decent player but his goals to games ratio isn't the best. another example of an overrated english player.
  18. i doubt he's going to think that after 8 months in the job tbh and tbf i think it would be wrong if he did. that's the sort of criticism you should level at him if we're in this position after he's been in the job for for a couple of years or more and he's still hanging around like a bad smell.
  19. howay man it's alan smith by a country mile
  20. quite a bit of competition for the crown when you throw lawro in the mix
  21. To be fair. If I was in charge of the budget and he bought 3-4 Africans in the Summer, knowing full well that they would all be off for a month. Then demand money for replacements. I know where I would tell him to stick it ! well maybe, but as long as the board are backing the manager to stay in the job, you'd hope they'll back him in the transfer marke too. it's obvious we need a player or two
  22. i think the board have to back him. we're clearly in need of player or two especially as we have to contend with the african nation/barton's off-field dramas/smith being total shite etc
  23. decent result tbf. we should turn them over at our place.
