  1. On the wind-up again? i never was tbh. i know duff's been shite but when you look at the squad it's so short on quality that we can't afford to let him go just on the off chance that he starts playing like he used to again. Depends, if we get Warnock in we'll be replacing a shit player with a good one. Duff'll never regain the form he once had btw. you're probably right but i think he's one that might be worth gambling on in case he does. i'd certainly risk him regaining his old form over keeping the likes of smith and barton, who never had any decent form to speak of in the first place. Eh? Barton was an excellent player for City and showed more form at the end of last season than Duff has in his entire time here. If we're looking to get rid of one of them it should be Duff. Couldn't agree more really. Duff looks totally shot to me. At the very least Barton is still capable of producing some good performances whereas I really don't think Duff is at this level any more. barton's been total rubbish since he joined us imo. i never really rated him at man city either. duff's been total rubbish since he's been with us too but at least he used to be a good player. clutching at straws a bit i know but this transfer window has been pretty bleak so far

  3. agree and we might, but we haven't exactly bought in a clutch of top class players with our new wage structure so far, have we? my fear is that if we do get rid of duff, we'll lighten the wage bill but might only be able to afford another guthrie or two. and is warnock even that good? i'd sooner we went for finnan, who we've been linked with today. i'm surprised liverpool want to gwt rid. i've always rated him but is suppose he isn't spanish so maybe his face doesn't fit.

  5. Who was the last person you said that about? Dyer wasn't it? If Warnock wants to come then I'm willing to chip in 5 quid to help pay Duff's train fare out of toon. if we get shot of duff our midfield options will be geremi, smith, barton, guthrie, n'zogbia, milner and this new argie bloke. duff's been crap for us but if he was to recapture his chelsea/blackburn form he'd be the first midfielder on the teamsheet every week ahead of that bunch of cloggers. big if like but worth a punt on another season given we don't look like attracting many better midfielders at present But he hasn't found that form, has he and an educated guess is he won't ever again. The club has to get rid of the hangers on'ers and ok Warnock is unlikely to be as good as Duff was at his prime but if he wants to come here and does the job then make it happen. At the moment we need Warren Bartons not Babayaros. if we were replacing duff with a better player then i would agree but i'd be worried to see any more of our players with the potential to create goals leave before we bring better players in, unless you're talking alan smith, who should be sold with immediate effect

  7. i know duff's been shite and another massive letdown but he's one of the few players in our squad that i would be prepared to give another season to to see if he can recapture his old form under keegan. last chance saloon like but he's worth the gamble imo (where the likes of smith, barton and geremi clearly aren't) because he has at least shown good ability in the past.
  8. a big brusier of an argie bargy at centre half would be ideal
  9. "a good player" "our best central midfielder" how depressing
  10. He's no Emre like. barton makes emre look like zidane tbf I wouldn't know as I can't really remember Emre playing tbf. unfortunatley i remember barton's performances from last season all too well and the thought of him being a regular next year too isn't an encouraging one
  11. He's no Emre like. barton makes emre look like zidane tbf
  12. i hope he doesn't. he's dreadful
  13. don't fancy sendaros much. he looks bit of a titus bramble type to me
  14. if you look at our first choice team as it stands, there's reason to be worried. we need to get some more players in sharpish.
  15. the times is his paper so probably some truth in this one. i wouldn;t be suprised if he refuses to take a pay cut.
  16. you're probably right. it's still disappointing when you see the cloggers we're left with in midfield.
  17. dennis wise for the toon makes darren pattinson for england look a logical move
  18. What day was this? I don't seem to recall many of them. I think it was when N'Zogbia played on the left of a midfield 3 howay man. when he was on form, he was a decent player - good touch and skill, set pieces and a decent shot on him. for me, emre's main problem was he always sat doo deep and didn't dominate midfield in the way better players do - i'm not sure if that's down to him, his managers or the poor quality players he's played alongside - possibly a combination of all three. i think he's a big disappointment because he obviously had some class, unlike a lot of our other players, but never did it consistently and was injured far too much. i expected more when we signed him, but am disappointed he never showed more of what he could do because he's obvioulsy got more craft and creativity about him than the likes of smith, butt, barton etc. Howay man what? He had about 3 good games for Newcastle. He was fucking waste of space. Don't buy the excuses at all either. He hadn't even been a player for about 3 years before we bought him. Apart from that though, he was class And I'd play Butt and Barton ahead of him every time too. barton? fuck off - even emre isn't that bad. you'll be saying you rate alan smith next. oh, hang on.... Barton is better. He's certainly a much better bet in a Premiership midfield. And while you're trying to be funny there, it's worth remembering that my assessment of Smith was based on his time before he arrived at Newcastle and I fully admit I was wrong and he's shit, even upfront. Your rating of Emre is more perplexing seeing as it's based on having seen him in black and white. Although considering how you're the only person who seems to remember N'Zogbia doing well in a midfield 3 for us (or having seen him even play there) I'd question whether or not you just make stuff up when you're out of your depth. Nice try all the same though. barton is absolute crap, as is smith in midfield. emre has more natural ability than the two combined....in my opinion of course. that's why i think it's a shame he was such a massive flop for us, because he obviosly had more talent than a lot of our other midfielders. Talent for what? Did you see him play for us? Seriously man, he produced the odd good set-piece, showed the odd nice touch and had a good shot on him. On the downside he was a liability in terms of always being on the verge of a booking / sending off. Likewise he was frequently injured. He was far more bothered about being fit for Turkey than he was for us too. And when he did play, his ball retention was shocking man. There seems to have been this myth that's grown-up that he was some sort of creative playmaker but he used to give the ball away (even on the simple pass) so often it was untrue. He wasn't mobile, in terms of pace or being box-to-box. Aye, he could beat a man but the best he ever did was win a free-kick because he didn't have the pace or athleticism to get away from the bloke he'd just beaten. And he was weak as anything in the tackle too - I can think of at least one occasion when a weak tackle on the edge of the box led directly to a goal against us. That and he failed to perform to any consistent level with what? Four different managers? Have a word with yourself man. that's what i'm talking about, and that's why it's a shame he was a flop for us (i'm not saying he wasn't for the record). he did have a good touch, decent shot and the ability to strike a dead ball - attributes that players like barton and smith (who are still at the club) don't posses - he showed glimpses of it for us but never often enough. that's why i think he's a massive disappointment - with his natural ability he should have done much better. i saw him play for inter and turkey a few times before we signed him and was excited by him signing and thought we'd got ourselves a bargain for under £4m. shame he didn't do it often enough for us - i don't know if it's down soley to the player - laziness, injuries? or a combination of that and playing alongside shit players and under shit managers - who knows? i'm just fed up that another player with natural ability has flopped for us - how come we're always left with 'triers' with little to no natural talent?

  20. he's the proverbial 'dodgy johnny foreigner'
  21. poor bloke. he's too young to be losing his old dear
