there's no doubt that a lot of clubs will start belt tightening because of the global financial crisis and the pound tanking. but....the premiership's monster tv deal, that still has a few years to run will mean that english clubs will still outbid most others for the top players and few will go under. west ham are a different story because their icelandic owner's bank (where iirc he owened a majority share) went under.

now let's go and get the bastard winner (although i'd take a point at this stage)

Unhappy Spurs star Bent targets Newcastle or Everton move

ashley might spend that kind of money again but i think he'd want to sell given or shift owen from the wage bill first -

yes please. pace and a physical presence up front. exactly what we need. can't see it happening though cos he's cost at least £10m being english at all -
xisco's not getting a look in tbf

i'd play nzogbia in the middle alongside guthrie with duff and guti out wide instead of drafting in dead wood like geremi or cacapa into centre mid
-
butt and geremi in midfield, non?

Fanny on here is there any? Where did they go

His kids aye. His wife though? She's still making money out of him even now. When he hit the papers last time round when he was sectioned she was in the tabloids within a few days going on about how she wanted to help him etc. iirc. Wanted to make some money more like. if i was her and had an alcoholic wife beater for a husband, i'd probably look to bleed a little cash out of him as well. people are quick to have a go at his missus but you have to look at what he's put her through too. i loved gazza when i was a lad. best footballer of our generation and funny as fcuk off the field. but despite the fact the man has got serious problems, it's hard to justify him beating up his missus, walking out on his kids, generally treating his family like shit and doing whatever he wants to do then hitting them with the emotional blackmail so they don't let go. certainly on last night's evidence it did seem that she was prepared to let him back into the family home but he walked out on them all and got straight back on the bottle because she wouldn't give him his oats. of all of them, i'd say the young kid regan probably spoke the most sense when it came to how to deal with gazza. what i've said probably won't be popular with a lot of people who still view gazza as a legend. i think he's probably beyond help now and his family might be right to try and get on with their own lives.
-
i do feel sorry for gazza but he's obviously a pretty horrible person as well as being distrubed and an alcoholic. i feel more sorry for his kids for the way he's fucked up their lives and even his wife - even if she is a money grabber.

Harsh top have a pop at Guthrie imo. The kid is alright and he never hides either. E.g. Liverpool when no fucker wanted the ball and against Hull when he was getting kicked. i'm not having a pop at his work ethic. i don't think he's good enough to be starting week in week out. he's tidy enough in possesion but with him playing alongside butt, we probably have the least attacking central midfield pairing in the country. we're crying out for a midfielder that can link attack and defence, get forward and support the front men and chip in with a handfull of goals. i'd say mendes is closer to being that sort of player than guthrie is.
-
we can't really afford to turn our noses up at him when we've got butt and guthrie "anchoring" our midfield
-
what a very depressing but accurate assessment of our current predicament. we're only going to sign players that even a couple of years ago we'd have turned our noses up at. and yet they will improve what is a pretty piss poor newcastle team Would we have turned our noses up at Jonas and Colo a few years back? no but we certainly would have turned our noses up at ferguson, gonzales, xisco plus selling milner and not replacing him and given potentially leaving. there's nothing too encouraging about our current situation is there? let's be absolutely honest now. i was no fan of shepherd but for his flaws at least we weren't in a massive relegation dogfight when he was in charge

replay it is then. hopefully with a couple of new signings in by then
-
another player we'd be daft to let go without replacing with better player
-
spot on. i hope those that walked this season come back soon.

So who is going to be the new Bright Toon thing?
Dr Gloom replied to TV Critic's topic in Newcastle Forum
if they;re so highly rated, put them in the team. can't be worse than the knackers that played against liverpool -
if you don't think we're in trouble, you are either mad, deluded or a moron
-
apparantly he's just had a massive mansion built so maybe he won't fancy moving.
-
What? he's crap but we shouldn't let him go unless he's replaced with better quality. we're too short of players as it is If he was our 3rd/4th choice striker fair enough, but he's 5th at best and probably 6th in reality! he's ahead of xisco as far as jfk is concerned, smith and vidukla are crocked, shola is shit. basically, our forward line this season consists of owen, martins and duff. we can't afford to lose another striker - even an average one like carrol - without bringing in a quality replacement.

can only go imo if he's replaced with a top class striker
