I think the problem most people on here would have with the bus fare thing is it would impact a lot of the lowest paid. If you already spend a tenner on bus fares and your skint dividing another fiver is a pain on the arse. I can understand not looking to claw that back with fuel duty because that’s already high.

It’s not really that simple, is it? Wilson and Trippier aren’t anything like the players they were due to age, injuries catching up with them. In particular having only one fit proper CF who is able to start and do a job in the PL has been a crippling limitation. The uptick in the performances of limited players like Longstaff, Almiron and Murphy hasn’t proven to be sustainable (not really a shock there either). Botman and Lascelles getting injured is massively problematic too. The former is a huge miss while the latter couldn’t be sold to bolster the squad. Anderson was sold to meet PSR requirements. You would think he’d have got game time. Miley is out injured, ditto. All that plus coming 4th being a massive overachievement

Well it’s a bit more nuanced than that for the reasons given by Fist. But what I would say is that he almost always plays the same formation, even if that means square pegs in round holes due to injuries. And he rarely changes the formation even when he does make changes by bringing on subs. Given the amount of analysis teams do that makes us predictable opponents. That said, we aren’t blessed with a huge squad, which isn’t on Howe at all. So maybe he thinks there’s only one effective way of playing with players at his disposal
