It was more a criticism of Barnes’ performance than him as a player overall. Because form is so important and it’s difficult to get that without starts. There’s also a case of maybe trying too hard to impress in a match like the one at the weekend. And that sometimes makes you play worse, is detrimental to your decision making etc. But games do tend to pass him by when he starts. He’s been excellent on the whole as an impact sub. But with regard to my comments about selling him, for where we are as club and with the spending rules, that’s a lot of money on wages and a transfer fee with someone who is only getting 30 minutes or so.

I thought it was really telling how much composure in possession Miley has compared to Longstaff. I know people probably thought that anyway but when you factor in Miley’s age and how little football he’s had because of the injury. Not just the goal but how calm he is on the ball.
