A Tory back bench rebellion would have to be massive to wreck it with the other parties all on board though.

I think Salmond spent most of the debate avoiding the question about Sterling which was probably his downfall in the end. He just claimed that Westminster were bluffing and gave no answers about 'what if?' It seems pretty obvious to me that you can't have true independence and still have the financial / fiscal compliance that would've needed to share a currency. Yet Salmond never properly addressed this once.

I thought that, on the whole and given what a momentous decision it was, the debate on both sides was conducted in a pretty civilised and respectful way. Which is good. I also think it's good that it was a decent margin of victory in the end too, which makes it slightly less divisive, I think.

Ah, right. Although similar applies really.

He makes a tit of himself in the heat of the moment, and although it was daft, who hasn't done that? He then puts something on twitter after he's had 18 hours or so to have a word with himself. Fuck me gently.

Aye, pretty sure it is for general elections anyway. Smells like social media bullshit.

It's a close run thing as far as you're concerned anyway.
  8. Not that I agree, but you said that (more or less) about 18 months ago.

I think the closeness of the vote means there'll be a lot of resentment on either side regardless of the result. And, given how much momentum the independence movement has gained over the past few years, perhaps a 'No' vote is just delaying the inevitable anyway.

Well, that wouldn't make sense anyway, seeing as it would be all-day on Saturday for a trip to Southampton and back. And you'd make considerably more on a Saturday night than a Saturday morning. Fair play to him calling Carver's bluff though.

I want a 'no' purely from a selfish point of view. I.e. it makes a Tory government far more likely if there's a 'yes' and I think that's bad news for the North East, generally speaking.

Well spotted. It's about 3 mile away.

I suppose it's just there was the uncertainty that the 'No' campaign might completely fuck things up with a week to go, especially with 'Westminster' getting involved. That possibility appears to have passed now and the rather unsavoury tactics of some of the 'Yes' supporters have probably backfired a bit. Their vociferousness also makes me wonder if most of the 'Don't Knows' are really in the 'No' camp too.

Been keeping an eye on the bookies for the past few weeks as I fancied a cheeky wager on the 'Yes' campaign as the tide appeared to be turning. Interesting to note that they haven't really changed that much and of late and, if anything, they're shortening for a 'No' vote and lengthening for the alternative: http://www.oddschecker.com/politics/british-politics/scottish-independence/referendum-outcome

Nice to reverse the roles for a change though, no?
