It's a fungus in truffle form rather than mushroom form because of the conditions its grown under. Just like the truffles you'd normally eat. Basically, it's a way round the law which banned magic mushrooms there a few years back.

I was at a Hawkwind concert in the Boro once, which is funny enough in itself. There were some right fucking states outside. The road there was virtually deserted but this one crusty, who looked like he'd had an acid tab for every third cider, just basically put his head down and crossed the road just as the first car in about 5 minutes came down the road. It hoyed the breaks on and swerved to miss him but the reaction from one of his mates was simply "Davey, man. You know you can't cross roads". Wtf?
