Former nust chairman Greg? Their patter on Bluesky fucking reeks either way

I don’t think he’s said they’re all losing their jobs. But the lack of detail in the announcement allows for media to fill in the gaps. And thousands of job cuts makes better headlines. It’s a cunt’s trick if it’s not immediately followed up by the employees being told what this means in reality for them. I bet that hasn’t even by worked out yet though because it is not a straightforward process. Which, if so, is even worse from a duty of care pov. Tbh all of their language around the public sector has been abysmal and no different to the previous lot. Like do they really think telling people they are inefficient is an effective way to improve productivity?
-
Btw, I’m not seeking to defend it. It smacks of another big announcement that’s very light on actual detail
-
I think it’s about Wes Streeting owning the responsibility. I don’t think there will be huge job cuts and most if not all redundancies will be voluntary. If you tell too many people in advance it just gets leaked though. I hope your mam is ok as I totally get it’s a fucking nasty shock hearing about it like that but they’ll still need most of the people to do the actual work. But it wouldn’t find defence spending in the short term to just get rid of all those people. You can only do that on the public sector by throwing loads of money at the problem. That’s one of the reasons public sector poor performance is managed so badly. It’s cheaper than getting rid of people

It’s bringing it under the direct control of the Secretary of State. I know he’s an MP but it’s worth pointing out the distinction. It’s not like MPs as a whole get more power over it.

The magpie used to be depicted in the chronicle or maybe the pink looking pissed off with his arms folded and the caption ‘why are we waiting?’ in the sack the board era. I also just laughed out loud at the idea of Monty the Magpie having a tab hanging out of his mouth because that would have been fucking brilliant

I don’t really see any of their games so don’t know to be honest. The had some big lads like but Heaton Stan bested them physically without needing to resort to dirty play. One of the U21s was deservedly sent off for two yellows. They also had a small lad upfront so it didn’t really say a lot for the quality of the two centre halves who kept playing long balls to him. Especially as it would’ve been his vinous after doing it a couple of times he wasn’t going to get any change out of Capewell who plays at the back for HS. Nobody in the middle of the park looked to be able to put their foot in the ball and control the game. A bit of pace on the wings and the keeper looked good and that’s about it. Alfie Harrison did nowt when he came on.

Da yoof wearing the Gregg’s clothing (was it in connection with Primark) was what they might call totes cringe. I do like a stottie though.

Doesn’t count as a goal for statistical purposes though.

Absolutely. BTW, you remember the press kicking off about nepotism, expenses, inaccurate CVs and so on the second Labour got into power? It got me thinking about Rupert McNeil, former government chief people officer, appointed under the Tory government in 2016. Who publicly acknowledged (I think it was in a private blog) that he not only went to school with, but also was good friends with and even went inter railing with Michael Cunting Gove. Not a sniff of media interest in that story afaik

Btw, the performance by the U21s last night didn’t exactly fill me with optimism in regards to the academy production line. I know Neave wasn’t in the squad because he was on the bench v West Ham and Kuol was rested too but I’d be surprised if many of them played much above Heaton Stan’s level (8th tier) let alone made it anyway near the first team. The goalkeeper looked decent and wasn’t at fault for any of the goals though. https://www.nufc.com

Aye. I’ve got those feelings about Severance too. Although I do like it and think it’s one of the more interesting things I’ve seen on TV for a long while. But yeah, I hope they don’t just let it drift due to a combination of its popularity and not knowing how to tie things up. Which I think will definitely happen if the third season isn’t the final one.

Also, the first ones are a little bit ropey in terms of audio etc. as they just started going it through Covid. I came to it late, as I was wading through the Talking Sopranos one but I’ve listened to them all, bar some added extras in Patreon, now and I only started less than a year ago. Going to listen to them all again at a more leisurely pace and watch all the playlists on YouTube too this time.

Generic small time football blather thread FOREVER

We had an away day a year or two back that was split between Manchester and London and it was significantly easier and quicker for me to get to Canary Wharf via train and the tube than it would’ve been to go to Manchester -

The BBC arselicking him and granting him that interview is almost as unsavoury as he is -

The costs get out of hand for teams in the pyramid system like. That’s why they charge daft prices, to try to compete. To me it’s a bit daft because unless you have a rich backer (and even then, they always get bored, and unless they’re closely involved there’s the very real chance of greed and corruption)then you can’t keep going up and up. Fur someone like Heaton Stan, they’re financially worse off by some margin as a result of their success / promotion. In the Northern League they have loads more local derbies, which means bigger crowds, especially as it allows for Friday night games where you’re not competing against NUFC / PL matches. The away travel costs are substantially less and you might win the FA Vase / get to Wembley. At level 8 you’re in the trophy which there’s no realistic chance of winning. Then there’s ground improvements. But you have to go up now which changed a few years ago. If you don’t, instead of promotion you get relegated from the league you were in that season. The football isn’t even better. The teams are just more physically impressive on the whole
-
It’s £9 to watch Heaton Stan in the 8th tier. Was £8 in the Northern League last season so that’s probably not far off standard for that level. Especially in the SE
-
That’s mental. There will be national league teams charging more than that for standard home game tickets.
