  1. That's a good example actually, thanks. That's exactly the sort of thing I meant with the 'bias by omission' line.
  2. He's awful, but watch him get another...
  3. Haha it would be fucking Obertan...
  4. Obertan is our solution apparently...
  5. Oh dear... fully deserved though.
  6. If we do get whipped here, it might at least persuade them that we still need a CB and striker.
  7. Good finish, but we've been poor so far.
  8. That's basically my thought, given the incubation period. I'm not saying it's a huge risk, but we're apparently taking it fairly seriously given that we convened Cobra over it.
  9. To be fair, they could all be wondering the same things we are... "He's a really good player but there must be something wrong if Newcastle don't want to play him at all...I mean, they're not stupid..."
  10. That's actually the central point of that link though - that the right wing say that in order to police it, while the left generally accepts the BBC's position because they don't want to lose it. The fact that the bias is demonstrably in favour of the right wing (with respect of the information put forward in that link) suggests to me that the BBC is at the very least, pro-establishment.
  11. If you're going to compare them to the US then yes. But even so, there are stories which aren't covered by them, and from time to time I find that somewhat disturbing. That said, I have no immediately on hand evidence for this, so I'll not press it too hard: There was this from the Guardian not long ago: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/mar/17/bbc-leftwing-bias-non-existent-myth The Guardian of course is heavily left biased, so this needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, but even so - it cites research carried out by Cardiff Uni that demonstrates that the BBC has been consistently more favourable towards right wing policies and politicians, than left. Moreover, I think his belief that the right, in essence, polices the BBC - is probably a justifiable remark. That's not to say that I don't think it's the least biased news source out there - it's miles ahead of everyone else in the mainstream news outlet stakes - but it's still not perfect.
  12. Agreed, although the BBC still supports certain agendas - tends to be by omission though.
  13. ...it's bothering me that after years of thinking he was one of the most annoying people on television, I'm starting to think Russell Brand is a pretty decent person. Also, I struggle to watch Fox News without becoming seriously enraged at the best of times, but that Hannity guy...
  14. To be honest, I suspect that too. Especially since HMHM is the one who posted it. But I so want it to be true that I'm prepared to dismiss common sense.
  15. I'm not sure this has been discussed on here yet, but I was just curious to see what people made of this so far. It seems to be getting worse through a combination of misinformation and superstitious belief... obviously it's not a truly terrifying prospect yet since it has to have physical contact to transmit, but these things can mutate. Of course, if it became airborne, that would represent a world wide problem. It also has a long incubation period with 21 days possible with no signs being shown, which is probably the biggest worry from my point of view - not that I'm well informed on this sort of thing. Obviously, it's not as big a killer as something like Malaria. It's not as contagious as influenza. But it is our current health scare issue. I think following SARS, Avian Flu and Swine Flu, the Western world has perhaps become a little dismissive of these sorts of things (they invariably end up under control), but even so, I do feel that we have to remain vigilant. Here's a link to the most recent information: http://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/aug/01/ebola-outbreak-world-health-organisation-chief What do we think?
  16. And that representation just so happens to very closely resemble Keown That's awesome. Kudos to the artist.
  17. Has that been photoshopped to look like him, or is this just the truth of the matter It really does look like him!
  18. Quite possibly. But at the end of the day, if he has another good season he'll be picked up by someone bigger. Still curious as to why the Liverpool thing didn't come off for him...
  19. Holy hell... that's a staggering statement. If that's a window into the mind of your average Israeli though, then where does that leave us? Is this guy just a nutjob? I doubt he's alone.
  20. Rough translation: We've asked him lots of times and he said no, so we're going to say no in an attempt to make it look like we're in control, unless he says yes, and then we'll sign him immediately.
  21. Agreed, I'd probably make the same call. At the end of the day, you're in a better position than you were.
