  1. Can't say I've noticed him blinking tbf.
  2. He'll have voted to confirm that toontastic is full of babies who couldn't accept that he was right, and who tried to infect his computer with Russian spyware.
  3. Aye, all the worst people blink.
  4. The BMA membership just rejected the new deal offered by Hunt The government are in the wars here, make no mistake. Makes sense though - if the BMA membership have looked at the EU result, and the impact that it will have on skilled workers coming to the country, then they're fucking right to think their negotiating position has just improved.
  5. This is a good article on the Corbyn-Momentum aspect of politics: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/jul/05/political-establishment-momentum-jeremy-corbyn This basically sums up what I was attempting to convey on here at the time of voting for him. There was no expectation that he was a great leader or that his personality would win people over. I was voting for him because I believed in his policies and was prepared to listen to what he was saying beyond soundbites. Also agree with the consideration of why so many in the establishment find him so dangerous, and want to make it look like 'personality' is the most important thing. Glad someone has articulated it. Interesting that the Guardian is starting to about-turn on this a bit now.
  6. Sorry, didn't mean to infer that it was a Corbyn only thing, just that Corbyn's movement was my (most recent) voting channel for this.
  7. I really feel this way. I'm ultimately not in the group that will be most affected by this nonsense, and have generally tried to vote for the greater good at each available opportunity (as NJS suggests we should do). Which is why I voted Corbyn, knowing full well that his priority should he ever get elected would be people other than myself. But it's clear that this is a pointless exercise. The EU vote has brought me to the brink of not giving a fuck about who governs the country any more beyond thinking that I should just vote in my immediate self interest. That's what everyone else is clearly doing. To be honest, I feel like a bit of an idiot for thinking that there were enough people in this country who believed in fairness and the common good.
  8. Brexiters initially concluded Mark Carney was taking a strong and determined stance, and that he was an example of how we should all be in the face of this - now he's 'one of the elites' and trying to scaremonger. People in this country really hate intelligence.
  9. I have now googled this term and agree that this would suck if it happened to you
  10. Sounds like the FT is countenancing anti-austerity policies there.
  11. He is a consequence of the split rather than the cause. The cause was the loss of the last election and the party's acceptance of austerity.
  12. It seemed like a useful language and the course involved a year in China which was a cool thing to do, I thought. I'm pleased I did it. Can't say there's much use for it in Newcastle though.
  13. That's how the world works isn't it?
  14. The EU trade deals are set up within a bloc that has a much better negotiating position than we do on our own. The EU can get much better deals than we can. Other countries will not give us such favourable terms.
  15. All the EU laws we've been using will need to be re-ratified in Parliament as well. This is going to take decades.
  16. Big reforms forced through by the departure of France and Britain would be something I'd get behind if we could re-enter once it's done.
  17. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm looking forward to the dramatic conclusion of the tale of Renton's Seagull.
  18. Now I'm not drunk can someone please explain why people who think immigrants are a problem for social cohesion and job prospects (disclaimer - I know that they aren't) are racist? I get that they're ignorant potentially, but I can see what Renton is saying here. On the other hand, if people believe this because they're suspicious of foreigners, that does tend towards racism for me. But the kind of racism you'd get all over the world without question.
  19. Yeah I shouldn't drink and debate. Just ignore me.
  20. That statement holds as long as concern over immigration = concern over excessive child birth. At last I think it does...
  21. You should probably actually get someone out man, you don't want a rotting bird carcass down there.
