  1. Exactly - the Tories are going to have to abandon their 'austerity'/ideological shrinking of the state in order to make up the shortfalls. Which they won't do, because if they did, they may as well be the Labour party.
  2. Share trading suspended for RBS and Barclays.
  3. Germany has just set out that we have to trigger Article 50 before any talks can happen. So there goes that plan. Boris and Gove are going to have to play a blinder here.
  4. CT - aside from the arguing, is there anything that has come to light post-Brexit that you feel is either not what you were promised, or which looks like it will be bad news for the country? Not asking you to regret your vote, just curious if you can see any downsides at all. In terms of upsides, if we somehow manage to replicate our access to the EU with no meaningful changes, but are also then free to look at trade globally without restriction, this may be positive. That said, I don't understand the dynamics fully. And I can't be certain that the benefit will outweigh the publishment we'll get from Europe. Hypothetically it could be a positive though. Also believe that politicians could now take the time to fear and cater for the working class vote. More of a byproduct than a direct effect of leaving the EU though.
  5. Labour should have made that the central plank of the Remain campaign. No less credible than anything Leave came out with.
  6. This is a really good post - the money is, of course, going to come from students. Fees will rise. That's the young damned again, CT.
  7. Labour MPs dropping like flies now, it seems. Hard to see how any of them think this is going to end well.
  8. The country has been in turmoil all weekend. They haven't had the weekend off, they've been frantically trying to work out what to do. EDIT - If they have had the weekend off, they're even more irresponsible than we all think they are.
  9. That's no excuse for not having a plan mate. They've let us down badly here.
  10. Not if they knew that new leadership was going to come in. Which was necessary really for the Tory party to avoid pulling itself apart. Also, just to be clear, are you now criticising Cameron?
  11. I'm not actually but I'm in anyway
  12. Senior Conservative Leave MP apparently. Didn't want to be named, obviously.
  13. Ah so it's that basic. That's just kind of sad, really.
  14. Yep, and 90% of what was voted for isn't going to happen. Is this the most moronic political decision in the history of this country? Yes, I would say so.
  15. How has he decided you come across as an IRA fanatic exactly
  16. Agreed - but I don't know who is being quoted. I assumed IDS since his name is at the bottom in the bulletins, but it could be unrelated.
  17. I agree with this post as well. But the party is now tearing itself apart, which makes his position shaky at best.
  18. This is a good point, and I suspect true. That said, there was nothing anyone could have said that the working classes would have believed, having been lied to for so many years by parties of all colours. I don't know what anyone could have said to avert this, except 'lets not have a referendum'. What should Corbyn have said, in your view?
  19. CT, I've said it a couple of times now, but this bright future you keep going on about seems to rest entirely on the shoulders of Labour. Who you and the other right wingers won't vote for. Indeed, many of us won't vote for them now either. So how exactly are they going to get back into power? You have condemned us to the Tories, but a version of the Tories who are free to form 'their own legislation'. Capital punishment just around the corner I expect.
  20. He still hasn't gone though. At the minute this just looks like another Labour shambles.
  21. I feel that way about England all the time. Betting on them to win is asking for trouble IMO.
  22. British people will still be able to go and work in the EU; to live; to travel; to study; to buy homes and to settle down. As the German equivalent of the CBI – the BDI – has very sensibly reminded us, there will continue to be free trade, and access to the single market. Britain is and always will be a great European power, offering top-table opinions and giving leadership on everything from foreign policy to defence to counter-terrorism and intelligence-sharing – all the things we need to do together to make our world safer. No change. We've voted out of Europe for nothing more than 'avoiding legislation'. That's what he's saying. Freedom of movement will remain, abiding by EU single market conditions will remain, the money spent will remain. Immigration, will remain. I actually find this reassuring. We look like utter fuckwits, but at least basically nothing is going to change, apparently. Hopefully the EU sees it this way as well.
  23. We had one Scotland referendum in 2014, and I do not detect any real appetite to have another one soon The man is utterly delusional. And likely hoping that he can put off the referendum for Scotland long enough that he doesn't have to be the one overseeing it (i.e. post 2020).
