I've wondered if we're going to get feminist 're-imaginings' of classic films next. Ghost busters and arguably star wars hit that note. I think I saw that Splash is being remade with a gender role reversal? Not saying it's wrong in theory, but it'd probably just be a cynical way for movie studios to cash in on their IP once more.

I genuinely think SDJ could do a job for us in the Championship if he could just stop getting knacked. He's never really had a chance to show it, but he must be a decent player at the heart of it. I'd certainly try him ahead of Shelvey if he was fit.

They could make some superb movies in superhero themes if they abandoned 12A ratings and just went for 15s and 18s, IMO. The narratives they're able to tell simply aren't compelling when you've got to make sure that all the small kids watching it aren't going to be too scared to buy the associated merchandise. That said, Deadpool was an overhyped letdown so I don't think that's the way to do it. I think the real question though, is what they're going to be replaced with when they go. The world will still need big budget action movies.

In one of the swimming events, the Australian gold medalist Mark Horton defeated his Chinese rival, Sun Yang (just). The Chinese guy sounds like he runs gamesmanship from the Stevie Taylor book of being a total prat, and was apparently splashing at Horton prior to the race to try and psych him out. Anyway it didn't work, and Horton was asked afterwards what he thought about it. He called the Chinese guy a drugs cheat and said he didn't care about him. Apparently Sun has failed a drugs test previously for medication he took while managing a heart condition. Anyway...! China has gone fucking nuts about this, and has demanded apologies from Horton, Australia, anyone who'll listen. Many of the Chinese internet users are threatening him with violence and stating that this proves that Australia hates China. It's also apparently somehow racist. I've watched China do this kind of shit for years, and it's hugely enjoyable. The victim complex they've instilled into their populace lashes out with a vengeance for stuff like this.

I'm not sure that really proves anything though - it looks as though he's posing for pictures with them because he's Mo Farah. Had he been a family friend, presumably, it would all look more natural.
