  1. That sounds like something I might say ffs. Hard to argue with the premise there but I question why this couldn't all have been achieved without leaving the EU? Many of us have been saying things like this for as long as I've been on this forum. You're in effect saying that the people, in voting to leave, demanded that the government sit up and listen. I think that could well be considered a success, if we manage to hold the government to the aim of actually improving people's lives. However, if you and many other 'right wingers' who share your concerns had just thrown your lot in with us 'left wingers' who have been talking about improving these things for years, and brought your pragmatism to combine with our idealism (I'm being generous there ) we could have avoided all of this. Because as you and I both know, from what you're saying anyway, leaving the EU is a symbolic act for the people fighting back - not a practical step in doing so. Effectively what seems to be coming across to me, is that the EU was the first excuse to come up which made it acceptable for the right wing to make ordinary people's lives and rights a focal point without looking like left wingers.
  2. I'm just trying to understand his thinking, really.
  3. Ah so it's actually cheaper for the NHS this way round? I can see that making sense. But what you're proposing effectively means creating a shortfall doesn't it...? Wouldn't that be dangerous? If you were leading it the other way around I would understand, but you're setting out that the government should combat its own policy by limiting immigration. Unless you're thinking that we the people are forcing the government to combat its own policy, which would make more sense I suppose. They'll have to put more money into the NHS budget for training then, I guess.
  4. My Mum is quite an advanced player - also plays violins, pianos, flutes and the harp but her main instrument is the guitar (acoustic though). Needless to say, my musical illiteracy has always been a huge disappointment to her In truth, it's just laziness that ever stopped me, which is a bit shit really. I could do with being as motivated as you guys
  5. I'll concede that I'm just uninformed on this one, but could you set out how we're doing that? It'd help me understand the point you're making.
  6. Are we stopping young women being trained as nurses, or simply not paying them enough for them to want to be nurses? Also, why is this a gendered comment? I think CT might be at odds with Jeremy Hunt and the Tories on this one.
  7. I actually do own an electric guitar (no idea which kind, I'm a total guitar philistine) so maybe I'll try giving it a go again soon. Pretty sure I can get the 'making loud noises' bit down. Coherency would be where I fall down.
  8. Well, you guys put my hobbies of gaming and work to shame, anyway. Fair play, was just curious really. Thanks for sharing.
  9. I do actually think they're looking at decades to rewrite all of the legislation, my friend...
  10. Nice. What genre? You should put up a sample of the stuff when you have the album together
  11. Are you guys in a band or is it just recreational? You're just so heavily into guitars that I thought there might be youtube videos of jamming sessions or something out there!
  12. This is going to go on for years though... decades probably to get all the legal stuff done. We might not even be alive to see the end of the process. All for a protest vote against austerity... I'm glad you're upbeat about it at least CT - it'd probably be even more depressing if the Brexiters were gloomy about our prospects. Did anyone see the report with 25% of the country considering emigrating? I'm in that 25%, not that I have particularly high expectations of anywhere else. Why can't the world be run by the sane?
  13. I'm not saying that they should have had one to begin with - just that the plan seems to be not to have a plan. And just to fudge through it depending on which way the wind blows before dressing up whatever we come out with as some massive victory. I'd be amazed if anyone in the cabinet has a clear idea of what it is that we even want at this point. I'm really struggling to watch this unfold, it's going to go on for fucking eons.
  14. That's actually the first vaguely credible reason for having him that I've heard. It has to be it, surely. Thing is though, Allardyce doesn't motivate teams to achieve, does he? Is motivating to avoid relegation the same as motivating to win something?
  15. Japan's warning should have set off some alarm bells, mind. I actually now believe that May still doesn't have a plan, and is trying to navigate this mess as she goes. Which could mean that we end up literally anywhere.
  16. Just read more of that interview and Allardyce goes on to comment on how Rooney played deeper than he (Allardyce) thought he would, as if this was something over which he has no control and is just passive observer. It's going to be an interesting two years. I'd be amazed if it goes on longer than two.
  17. Can't be real, even for Allardyce that'd be fucking ludicrous.
  18. It is just like the South Park episode actually I'm often surprised by how accurate to real life south park is...
  19. I said that about Thor actually. But KCG ruled it out with his comic book qualifier.
  20. Starwars kind of is comic book though... If they had done the same thing with a guy I'd feel the same. It has to be open to criticism at the end of the day or it does no one any favours.
  21. there's two different variations on the meaning then. I dunno, I have no issue with strong female characters in a number of films when done well (didn't enjoy it particularly but hunger games was an example of this) but that star wars one was just silly.
  22. It's the removal of any character flaws from a female character (in this case also hopelessly overpowering said female character) usually in a token bid to seem 'feminist' friendly. Unfortunately it tends to ruin the story/character development. I also think it suggests that writers have a hard time envisioning strong female characters who are actually relateable.
  23. They definitely Mary sue'd the girl in the latest one, it was cringe inducing. I think the trailer for the new one looks awesome though.
