More from Corbyn - for gloom's benefit I think: We are a long way from that humanitarian vision … Britain continues to sell arms to Saudi Arabia … a country that the United Nations says is committing repeated violations of international humanitarian law … war crimes … in Yemen........ just as we have seen taking place in Syria. So today I make it clear … that under a Labour government … when there are credible reports of human rights abuses or war crimes being committed … British arms sales will be suspended, starting with Saudi Arabia.

Well I meant the poorest, but I suppose it depends where you draw the line on poor? I had a loan as well by the way along with a grant for being poor. I'm the proud owner of £18k student loan debt.

Different reasons though isn't it? i.e. the Tory version of events is a lie.
-
You sound pretty well informed to be honest, I would throw your opinion in there anyway if you have something to say.
-
He didn't say. It'll be interesting, but as someone who benefitted from a University grant, I hope it covers as many people as it can, ultimately.
-
Howay, you don't post in the Politics thread much so you may not be aware of this - your rational line of reasoning doesn't work on CT. He has transcended logic and rationality - he is now able to manipulate the truths of the universe as he sees fit.
-
Wow, didn't realise you held such sway in the US political sphere.

Example of Corbyn setting out a spending policy with where it will come from: We’ve already started to set out some of this … pledging to raise corporation tax by less than 1.5% to give an Education Maintenance Allowance to college students … and grants to university students … so that every young learner can afford to support themselves as they develop skills and get qualifications.

What we're seeing here is the Politics thread about to take over the whole forum I mentioned it in the Politics thread so I may as well mention it here in its rightful place - I watched 'That Sugar Film' recently which details the evils of Fructose and how they put it in everything, how it is all over 'healthy weight loss foods', and how it is more responsible for obesity than fat. Which I personally found staggering when you think that we're trying to combat obesity at a national level, and we're not even combatting the right thing. Surprisingly entertaining film, although I think the kind of humour the main guy has would grate for some people.

Yeah I don't think Ritchie will ever be the kind of player we look back on and remember moments of him scoring 'that' wondergoal or 'that' mazy dribble, but if he hangs around long enough he could end up with a similar sort of reputation as people like Rob Lee (not saying he's as good, but you know what I mean).

Ahhh. Yes ok I see how he's arrived at that conclusion (Livingstone) but agree that it's a ridiculous thing to say - likely out of desperation. I don't see why it's so hard to focus political attacks on Israel and not all Jewish people though. Although I suppose Livingstone would likely argue that he does this and that he is misrepresented.
-
Absolutely he is, I'm just saying he seems to support the view that you, I, and most people on here have about immigration when it comes to the EU - i.e. that limiting immigration, while it might be what people think they want, isn't actually the solution. I think it's commendable for him to say that. But yes, it's a hard sell.

So hang on, Naz Shah said that Hitler was right to do what... I'm assuming not the holocaust? I recall something about this, but I was under the impression that it was some reference to Zionism...?
-
Did Naz Shah or Livingston state that what Hitler did was legal?!

Aye that's true - I'd not come across the term PLP before all this nonsense broke out. They need to unify, that's pretty much all there is to it. We can stop talking about the PLP if they just get back together, hammer out their differences, and remember that the main thing, really, is to attack the Tories and not each other.

Ok Fish wins. Fucking brilliant video. I love how often opposing players end up clattering into each other, falling over, etc Unplayable on his day.

He's out of contract at the end of the year isn't he? I think his time there is coming to an end tbh...

Also: Momentum is not Militant, and they can run a lively, successful conference. One of the highlights of Liverpool has been Momentum’s The World Transformed alternative conference (or festival, as they prefer to call it) taking place about half a mile away. Anyone turning up expecting a Militant re-enactment will have been disappointed. Outside there were older, hard-core lefties selling “deselect your MP” literature. But as journalists like Andrew Grice(here) and Paul Mason (here) report, inside it was full of young, earnest, welcoming activists seemingly with no interest in becoming the next Derek Hatton. In the long run it is till not clear what impact Momentum will have on Labour, but this week its reputation has gone up.

Just reading through the talking points from Labour conference, this one seems quite interesting: Labour is split over how to interpret the Brexit vote. Many MPs believe that immigration was a key factor and increasingly there are calls for the party to abandon its commitment to the free movement of labour. But Corbyn sees the Brexit vote as primarily a vote against the economic status quo and, as he confirmed this morning, he is opposed to immigration controls. Interestingly, this is one issue where Labour’s old right, which is sceptical about immigration, disagrees with the pro-free movement Blairite right. On this topic Corbyn is a Blairite. Again, I'd naturally agree with Corbyn on this - and by extension, Blair.

As an aside, to everyone's great surprise no doubt, MH17 was shot down by Russian equipment: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/sep/28/flight-mh17-shot-down-by-missile-brought-in-from-russia-ukraine-malaysia-airlines

I think they should go for Wenger, personally. He's had it at Arsenal now anyway, may as well move on at last.
