  1. I have held to it as a metaphor more than fact. I think politics since Brown has been one long tragedy to be honest. The financial crisis is probably something I will look back on as one of the defining political moments of my life, judging by the trajectory the world has taken since. It definitely has been more intensely bad since the last GE though.
  2. Communicating is useful for low level planning but and spotting, but the reality is that when you're in a firefight, by the time you've called out an enemy either you're dead, your teammate is dead, the enemy is dead, or you're all dead. The most effective forms of communications I've had with people tend to be around who is going to 'trigger' the objective and who is covering. That said, I'm generally not the squad leader. I think that individual has to play it more tactically - maybe hang back and act as an advanced spawn point for the rest of the team by ensuring he isn't killed when the rest of us are, etc. This person may do more communicating.
  3. Ah ok. I want to make clear that I am also horrified by what has happened - while I think much of it was unavoidable and a fairly logical consequence of failed political strategies, I don't want to see hard right governments, Brexit, diminished prospects for the future and tribalistic hatred in resurgence. All of these things horrify me. I stand with you on that. I made 'darkest before the dawn' something of a personal motto years ago, and I think it's that notion that's getting me through!
  4. I don't think that last part is true at all, I've never sought to ridicule anyone. Otherwise I'll concede on the point about how difficult it will have been to come to accord on tackling the ozone layer problem. I'm not saying any of this has been easy - I think what I'm saying is that the reason this is so difficult is literally because of politics. Each country trying to work out if every other country is just trying to screw them over, focusing on how they can maintain their competitive advantage and relative power in the world, etc. This is an event that will bring us all together - probably in our lifetimes - as we watch in horror at the hell we have wrought by worrying about profits and politics comes to fruition. Yes, Trump is a total disaster for this process. But he thinks Climate change is a conspiracy by the Chinese. The Chinese think the same thing but about the West. Politics getting in the way of solutions.
  5. I note that Shepherd is trying to distance himself from it - pointing the finger at Fletcher who has, conveniently, died. Our wrongdoing appears to be that we failed to alert the police and just sacked the guy - presumably to prevent any bad press. Fucking stupid decision though.
  6. Well, we've now been accused of a cover up: https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/dec/01/newcastle-accused-cover-up-1990s-abuse Disgraceful if so.
  7. Oh really? I thought it formed in the mid 2000s following a break away from NO. I assume it was still a breakaway group, just from further back though?
  8. You think our leaders have done enough? We've had 'serious warnings' about climate change since the early 1990s man, they've done fuck all. While I've no doubt that Trump will do us no favours, at this point he has done less harm to the fight against climate change than most other politicians worldwide.
  9. I'm sometimes amazed to see that some of you joined TT about 11 years ago. That's fucking loyalty to a forum.
  10. I mostly use the talking option to assist teammates in avenging me when I've been killed: "The fucker is crouching behind the door just to the right as you enter - hang on, he's moving slightly, he's about to edge his head out, SHOOT NOW!!!" Very satisfying to watch from my position as a corpse
  11. Tbf, I don't talk to randoms either But I do use party chat if I'm with people I know. I'm just using the 12g automatic at the moment. No scope, it feels pointless to have one with the shotgun.
  12. Having a good squad counts as well. I normally play with a couple of other guys (though they've both checked out to play FF now ) and having that dynamic makes you much more effective than just playing with randoms.
  13. As I say, we're on course for that anyway... Even the 'left wing' establishment has done fuck all about that. There's no political will to tackle the issue, there hasn't been for as long as we've been talking about this. Because they'd have to restructure the entire world economic system, and many of the established parties would find themselves a lot poorer. The only hope I've had is that this constant dithering from the political class about such a serious issue is in order to allow these very wealthy people to transfer their wealth into assets that won't be affected by what needs to happen - and that when enough of them manage this, we'll be able to tackle it. So yes, Trump will speed it up - but at least he genuinely doesn't seem to believe in it. Ire should be pointed more firmly at those who DO believe in climate change, and did nothing anyway. They had plenty of time.
  14. It means they'll be exposed though. Unless trump actually does manage to invigorate meaningful change for people which we all consider to be unlikely. Exposed and then replaced by what will hopefully be a far superior brand of leftwing politics than what we've had up until this point.
  15. I started off with a Medic and am now using Assault. 1 for 20 does suggest that something untoward is going on though... I'm usually around par 15-15 on average. I make up for not being great at killing people by going for the objectives. I don't think the machine guns are great for the assault - the shotguns made a hell of a lot of difference for me. You can blow someone away in two shots as long as you're close enough. Obviously that means you have no range to speak of, but again, playing the objective rather than to kill means I tend to run into a lot of close range enemies anyway.
  16. Have to agree, I'm not opposed to being a bit more informed going into the match. It's not like they're being posted with multiple explanatory paragraphs
  17. No worries, I assumed you'd stopped playing for the evening. I'm mostly playing the Rush mode at the moment. Which class are you using?
  18. You know, that's a more reassuring explanation of that particular question than any I can think of, so sure, let's run with that
  19. Parky and I have been saying this for years
  20. Yep. I think the left needs to look past identity and just see people as people. They can then build a movement around it and work on economic progressivism - which is the thing that will actually help more minorities and more women than another 50 years of this identity politics nonsense. The only way that can happen though, I suspect, is if the left is torn down and rebuilt. Otherwise it'll look like a rebrand.
  21. Very strong article from the Guardian. I'm surprised they published it to be honest, it cuts to the heart of their whole ideology and rips it out. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/dec/01/blame-trump-brexit-identity-liberalism#comment-88592983
