  1. In other news Soulja Boy and Chris Brown are to have a boxing match to settle a feud http://www.rap-up.com/2017/01/10/chris-brown-soulja-boy-to-fight-in-dubai/ They're doing it in Dubai because obviously. EDIT - Mike Tyson is training Brown: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/38552656/mike-tyson-will-train-chris-brown-in-his-fight-against-rapper-soulja-boy?intc_type=promo&intc_location=sport&intc_campaign=tysontrainingbrown&intc_linkname=newsbeat_ent_article1 "I'm going to teach him how to bite somebody's ear" - Mike Tyson.
  2. Bold question given the stick you get...!
  3. Nothing, it was related to the overall theme of depressing and tragic stories rather than to the rather quirky theme of shoes.
  4. I keep thinking you're Alex because of your avatar. Just FYI I'm in agreement with your stance on this whole thing tbh.
  5. The media are ok as long as they're acting in the interests of the people, whether they support something I believe in or not. I'm entitled to my opinion on what those interests are, and I think with Brexit and Trump on the horizon we can agree that the current system needs, at the very least, some tweaking. The reason I don't think they're acting in such interests, is that they're almost all owned by corporate powers and very wealthy individuals. With the sole (to my knowledge) exception of the Guardian.
  6. Seriously!? That's amazing. Almost makes me want to watch it.
  7. I think you've missed my issue with the MSM actually. I don't want rid of them at all, I just want people to see past their spin, and for them to cease being a barrier to meaningful change. As long as they're unwilling to do this then yes, I consider them to be a problem.
  8. It depends who you're talking about. The key bit for me is their support or otherwise of a failing system and their complicity in maintaining this system. If non-MSM sources are culpable of this then yes, I'd argue that they're in the same boat. Not all are, though. The Guardian, as much as I find it incredibly unhelpful in a number of ways, is the closest thing in terms of the major news sources to something I could get behind. The problem I have with them is that they're useful idiots for the same powers.
  9. ...ffs some people get way too worked up about shoes. I knew a lad whose best friend went out drinking one night, fell (as you do when drunk) and hit his head on the curb. Died at the scene. Some real tragedies out there.
  10. No, just the ones who actually matter. We all have narratives that we live by and believe in at every level, some are more invested in the status quo than others.
  11. You think I've said that I despise the MSM for carrying out fact checking and verifying their sources? I despise the MSM for dealing in narratives and colouring information in such a way that it moulds and shapes public opinion rather than allowing public opinion to mould and shape itself based on the presentation of facts. I believe the colouring of their information supports a status quo that is failing the vast majority of people. I don't believe that they publish factually inaccurate information - although apparently they do - I believe they're part of the structure that resists change.
  12. I'm not bothered about Trump tbh, but I do think that Alex makes a good point further up that the more of these 'untrue' stories that emerge, the less people trust the MSM. And if you happen to believe that the Russians are at the heart of a conspiracy to turn ordinary Westerners against their information sources, then that would be a worry for you. In my case, simply having people 'not trust' the media isn't helpful. You want people to be able to critically analyse and filter out the bullshit. Not ignore it all together.
  13. I agree it's a public interest issue if it's true.
  14. Well in this case I don't actually understand a great deal about what has happened here (largely because it's not actually very interesting beyond a certain few details), so it would be remiss of me to just wade in and assign blame. I'm just curious as to whether others feel that the MSM are at the root of this one. You talk as though I'll look for any excuse to pin things on them. I don't feel like I do that They offer a fucking lot of excuses to do so, however.
  15. I love how statement one was left in the post here despite statement two following it up without the use of an Edit. Fair enough anyway
  16. A lass forced you to watch battleship...? Was that just cos Rihanna is in it?
  17. Am I allowed to blame the MSM for this or what? I'm losing pace with everything here
  18. The content of the video is neither here nor there to me, it has no impact on Trump's abilities (or lack thereof), it's just a sexual preference. A weird one, but who the fuck cares. The issue is the possibility of it being used for blackmail - but now that it's been 'outed' I think we're back in relative safety.
  19. Good insight. Hadn't picked up on the 'fake news' aspect of this. Is there some suggestion that it may not be legit?
  20. I'm still not 100% sure he's going to be sworn in, you know... this all has the look of a possible attempt to derail it.
  21. Apart from being bizarre, it's not actually that big a deal though. It's not like he killed someone.
  22. Sad story that. To think that it was all over a shoe as well ffs.
