Listening to what someone says, as opposed to how the media report what he says, remains highly controversial in this day and age Obviously though, he's continues to be a disappointment in terms of leading the party in a general sense. Fortunately that doesn't seem to be under particular scrutiny at the moment. As for May, literally every poster on here save CT could see her for what she was.
-
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the damage was done to Corbyn by the overwhelmingly negative media reaction to him even before Brexit was on the horizon. The PLP were lining up to take shots at him well before the referendum. He's done nothing in this campaign that has surprised me in terms of how he comes across because I've spent the past two years listening to him talk, rather than listening to what people are saying he said. As you say though, none of this changes the fact that May, despite being utterly incompetent - something that was clear when she was home secretary let alone Prime Minister - is going to win. What now terrifies me is that previously I could just about believe that my views on her were being coloured by tribalism. That she was probably more competent than I gave her credit for. Now, she actually seems to be more or less as bad as I thought she was. Possibly even worse? What chance do we stand in the Brexit negotiations with this pack of inept opportunistic fucks in charge?
-
What the fuck kind of 'final solution' does she have in mind? FFS she needs to shut fuck up, the last thing we need is vacuous fuckwits spouting off like this.

I think they achieve everything they intend to, frankly. They do create terror, they do create mistrust, and they do create the premise for government crackdowns on civil liberties. It all eats away at the fabric of Western liberal values.

Is it confirmed as an Islamic attack? I mean, it has all the hallmarks but still. Terrible news and heart breaking for those affected, with nothing other than negative consequences for everyone in the country. The utter cunts who do this sort of shit...
-
CT, broader party objectives aside, it must be starting to become clear that May is useless.
-
Amazing. He is consistent mind... 38 games without a win was it?
-
Just watched park's earlier video of May as well as ewerk's. Again, pathetic. To launch a manifesto and then backtrack immediately shows us exactly how the EU negotiation will go. It'll be a shambles with May caught between a demanding public and an intransigent EU.
-
Equally though, I wonder if that's a sign of how bad next season looks for them. It took a couple of days for Moyes to quit, suggesting that some further talks took place. Maybe Moyes was told what he'd have to work with...
-
Surprising. Good news for them though, Moyes wasn't going to get them anywhere. Depends who follows of course but this should buoy them.

But if Brexit wasn't there, Labour's manifesto still would be. We've bet the farm on Brexit to fix a problem that someone like Corbyn (or with his policies at least) could have done. Which is really disappointing, especially given that the scenarios for Brexit benefitting us in the short to medium term are thin on the ground no matter who is supposed to be delivering it. It almost sounds as if you're saying that we need the Tories to see through Brexit because it was a stupid idea with loads of risk attached to it, and they will minimise the damage. Because if we thought Brexit was going to be a massive success, surely Labour's 'fix society' manifesto would be appealing.
-
I like to think I'm open to logical conclusions to be honest. I don't see what it is that you do with the Tories being 'competent' but I've readily admitted in here on many occasions that Corbyn has been a disappointment in terms of how he has managed the party. The thing is, Labour are going to deliver Brexit if they're elected. So are the Tories. Neither has any real handle on what a 'good' deal looks like, as this will be set by the EU, but Labour are the only ones in a position to go back to people and say 'look, this is a shit deal, do you really want us to go through with it'. The Tories can't do that, which means they give us assurance of the worst possible deal. They absolutely have to see it through otherwise they'll look utterly fucking stupid. Their entire political life now hangs on this. There's actually a part of me that suspects they wouldn't mind overmuch if Labour did win (except that Corbyn is so 'radical' that they now have a Sophie's Choice style event ahead of them). But either way - you are in effect saying that you consider the situation to be this: (Tory EU deal - Tory policies) > (Labour Policies - Labour EU Deal) Are you really sure about that?
-
Corbyn hasn't been successfully devoured by the entire PLP, the media, or the Tories. He's stuck at it through it all, and has resolutely stood fast to his principles. I don't think the EU would be able to intimidate him whatsoever. The risk, if there is one, is that he commits the same error as May and fails to see the good deal in pursuit of the holy grail deal.
-
The thing is, it's entirely unknowable. Davis himself has said he has no idea what 'no deal' will look like, and that seems to be almost certainly what we'll get. There are too many variables to know. So you're basically putting your trust in nothing.
-
What about the Tory negotiating team inspires so much confidence CT? Davis looks a total lightweight.
-
You're fucking joking. Fucking hell, I can't stand her. She's such a pathetic leader.
-
The Daily Mail will go to the grave if need be, as long as it stops 'the leftists'.
-
Personally suspect we would have had that anyway; not sure what old New labour could have done to position itself around the centre based on what the Tories are doing. Will be interesting to see how this election goes though, in terms of seats won/lost.
-
Have to say, as much as this election is going to be a painful swing to the right, I don't regret voting for Corbyn based on what he's campaigning for. Labour definitely have the right policies, and without him we'd still be in some kind of vague Tory lite state.

Happy birthday!!

... He's gonna be a pundit isn't he. Fuck's sake...

The Guardian contending that the Lib Dem's commitment to the EU and a second referendum is now actively working against them, as more people are prepared to just get on with living than to revisit it. Seems that Corbyn may have had the right of this, unbelievably. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/may/17/lib-dem-defence-48-rubbish-politics-tim-farron-brexit-manifesto

Terry is a fascinating individual like. Barely played this season hasn't he? May as well have retired last year. Still, at least that's that. No more of him.
