  1. She is the PM like, you'd expect a statement of some form. Did she use the words 'if you vote for us' or anything like that?

I think a lot of that comes from Twitter.

You can't crack down on Islamic extremism in terms of what they are and are not allowed to say without doing the same thing to all 'extreme' discussion. So she'll be going for the far right and left as well. Also, worth pointing out, that if we start cracking down on free speech, our values and way of life have indeed been compromised by terrorism, ergo, they have won. That minor detail aside, May is going to use this in her bid for greater surveillance and the further curtailment of civil liberties. I'm amazed anyone on the right is actually ok with that.

Does that even make sense? What is racial profiling going to offer us that we don't already know? Surely the problem we've got in identifying these people is that the vast majority of brown people arent terrorists, and that therefore they're impossible to pick out based on ethnicity alone.

Yep, agree with you on this. Corbyn's policies like putting more police on the streets and avoiding invading other countries will probably make a difference over the long term but the short term threat is here to stay. And if people like Hopkins and other right wing commentators are anything to go by, the terrorists are winning. Our way of life is definitely going to be changed if these people get their way.

The ultimate goal has to be to force the UK into an extreme response or isolationism. The people behind this probably see things like Brexit as a victory. The problem we have is that each time something like this happens, public support for moderation will diminish.
  7. Momentum versus the right wing media. Ordinary people on the streets versus people paid to write for billionaires. How the fight was always going to be.
  8. Seems as though it's all to do with the youth vote as has been said. We'll have to hope momentum can mobilise them...
  9. Ok sure, but given Labour has committed to trident in it's manifesto, so what does any of the above have to do with Corbyn and the present? It's just a distraction. We're under no threat whatsoever of being nuked presently.
  10. Again though, under what circumstances we would be nuked? How do we make someone angry enough to nuke us? Moreover, what difference does it really make if we nuke them back?
  11. Yep, but he believes in his principles so he can't. And anyway, the second he did the Tories would turn around and say you couldn't trust anything he says anymore.
  12. I understand how MAD works, and I know you believe in it. I mean, Russia could destroy our entire country and we could only take out three of their cities, but even so I get how it's meant to work. That said, we are currently not on the precipice of an international conflict that is likely to end up with them being used, at least not against us. So quite why people consider this to be a more pressing issue than the NHS and their quality of life in general is beyond me. The other thing - why would anyone just nuke us for the hell of it? They wouldnt. We'd have to have literally invaded China or Russia or something.
  13. Fair point. Although May just barely condemned Trump.
  14. I'm amazed some people our there are actually worried about getting nuked.
  15. Wolfy made a new account?
  16. Trump is President. At this point even CT could be PM.
  17. That's the real problem here. Arguably this has come to soon for Labour. Another 3 years would have given the Tories enough rope to hang themselves. That said, I suppose we'll still get to see that. Just need to dig deep for 5 years and stay the course. Half tempted to go into politics myself
  18. Sounds like a return to form then for the great British public. Oh well. Maybe it's best to leave the Tories holding the can for Brexit anyway.
  19. I dunno man, I see this all very differently. Also don't think Miliband was a disaster, he was just the one that made me realise the Blairites had nothing to offer. Not his fault, the underlying ideology has been found out. Same issue the Tories are having. I don't think a stronger leader would have finished May off. I have my belief on what the underlying causes of the last two years of nonsense have been, and the Blairite wing have no answer to it as far as I've seen. They would have campaigned on a single market footing and they would have lost. They also would have had a manifesto that looked a lot like the Tories with a few minor policies to 'help'. The whole election would have been dismal and without hope. Turnout would have been pathetic. That said, I could be totally wrong about that, maybe they do have something to offer and I just don't know what it is. Either way, I suspect we're going to see the party fracture if the Tories get their landslide. If it's close, maybe they'll stick with it. Heaven forbid they actually get behind the platform of course.
  20. That's the one thing I'm now sure won't happen. They're not going to get control of the party back after this showing from Corbyn.
  21. It's a bit of a read, but this article in truefaith of all places gives a really in depth critique of how screwed they are. http://www.true-faith.co.uk/financial-fair-play/ Sounds as though the issue isn't so much whether or not they have money, but that they've fucked themselves to the point of not being able to spend anything without falling foul of FFP. If they do fall foul of it, they get points deductions. Obviously I'm no expert in this stuff, so someone like HF or ewerk would have to go over it, but it looks robust enough.
  22. I love how we're living in an era where the biggest self inflicted political fuck ups come around on an almost yearly basis.
  23. Certainly the weakest I can remember. I think he'll resign following the vote. EDIT - that said, one of the Tory MPs has defected to the Dems - so they've gained at least one seat they didn't already have! Well, very likely they have anyway.
