Bernard? Distin? I also wondered if Guivarc'h had, but I can barely remember how to spell his name let alone who he played for...

Tore Andre Flo? Was he Norwegian?

Don't underestimate the impact 'looking popular' can have. Especially when compared to May.
-
Just read up on it, I see the Tories are Google Ad-wording the crap out of that extract of an interview with Kuenssberg. Fair enough I suppose, they're both politicising it then.
-
He's firmly pinned this on May though. And to be honest, she looks pretty responsible to me, as far as policing goes anyway. EDIT - and arguably other counter-terrorism strategies. Corbyn's views aside, May doesn't look great.

Muslim Council of Britain encouraging imams not to give the Islamic equivalent of 'last rites' to the attackers. Fair play to them, they're taking a very firm stance on this. Alongside our friends and neighbours, we mourn this attack on our home, society and people and feel pain for the suffering of the victims and their families. We pray to God that the perpetrators be judged in accordance with the gravity of their crimes in the hereafter. Their acts and wilful dismissal of our religious principles alienates them from any association with our community for whom the inviolability of every human life is the founding principle. Consequently, and in light of other such ethical principles which are quintessential to Islam, we will not perform the traditional Islamic funeral prayer for the perpetrators and we also urge fellow imams and religious authorities to withdraw such a privilege. This is because such indefensible actions are completely at odds with the lofty teachings of Islam.

Will remember that goal against Arsenal for, probably, the rest of my life. Tragic this.

Aye, the CSL account that originally broke it is getting defensive about how he wouldn't joke about something like that... fuck.

That is ridiculous As far as the terrorist attack's influence on the election goes, as much as I can't condone political point scoring from something like this, it has left May looking vulnerable and Corbyn has capitalised.

Trump just jumped on the anti-establishment bandwagon to win votes - when he talks about the MSM it's in reference to anything that criticises him. When I talk about it, it's in reference to media groupthink.

Him and Kahn really have it in for each other... which is again, ridiculous.

What a bitch Trump is, seriously.

Cressida Dick shares your opinion on armed offices incidentally, so it doesn't look like they're coming in.

Here is the quote where Jeremy Corbyn said Theresa May should resign over police cuts. Asked in an ITV interview if he supported calls for her to resign, he replied: Indeed I would, because there’s been calls made by a lot of very responsible people on this who are very worried that she was at the Home Office for all this time, presided over these cuts in police numbers and is now saying that we have a problem - yes, we do have a problem, we should never have cut the police numbers. But calling for a serving prime minister to resign three days before polling day may not seem particularly realistic and, when he was asked about May resigning for a second time, Corbyn said the election might be a better way of removing her. He said: We’ve got an election on Thursday and that’s perhaps the best opportunity to deal with it.

Corbyn has called for May to resign...

Fair point. Well, I can see both sides of this so I guess I'll head back over to the GE thread

Ok so you're actually (I think) talking at crossed purposes. ewerk's contention was that gun access is severely restricted and that the police would have an immediate advantage. You're agreeing that it is severely restricted, but that giving officers guns increases the risk of terrorists getting hold of them. Presumably you think the risk of that happening is higher, even if less likely, (measured in potential lives lost) than if the police can't quickly incapacitate a maniac with a knife. I mean, we can't say for sure but I can see the logic there.
-
I dunno Quiff, the point stands; why would terrorists suddenly be more able to get their hands on guns if we armed the police? You're suggesting that they haven't the motivation to do so at the moment? I'd find that odd, because they could do plenty more damage with guns. Anyway, I don't intend to get caught up in this, just thought I'd assist in refocusing. EDIT - ah, ewerk has given up with it anyway nevermind then.

The thing is though, the ones that are happy to report people are probably already doing so. It sounds as though the guys who did this latest attack had been reported. If the Muslim community reports them, and the police don't have the staffing or don't take the threat seriously, I'm not sure pointing the finger at Muslims helps much. Also, those that resist reporting them aren't going to be swayed by Javid because they're likely some way along to being indoctrinated themselves. So again, what does this call to arms in the Muslim community offer?
-
Yeah fair enough, I posted it because I thought his sentiments would resonate with some people. Not sure what the Muslim community can do now that it isn't already doing though.

Tories admitting they cut the police back, but suggesting that Labour agreed. Which I'm sure they did, given the race to the bottom for austerity was going. Not sure that accusation will work though given Corbyn certainly wouldn't have been in favour of cutting the police. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/jun/05/karen-bradley-police-cuts-armed-officers-bbc-today-programme-london-bridge-attack Also, notably, Cooper has come out in support of Corbyn over police cuts. Granted its an easy one for her, but still.

Oh dear. Javid is a Tory, Gloom. Sadiq Kahn is the guy who said we should just get used to terrorism. Not sure he'd approve of the statement above.
