  1. They did but more recent reports claimed they were trying to speed it through.
  2. If it takes "at least 10-15 days" and we're on day 18, we don't have enough information to say anything about it. All he was told is it wouldn't take less than 10-15 days. I don't understand why the lack of news over something that we were advised would run on past the end of the month is getting to people. What do we want to know exactly? Which particular part of the due diligence they're up to? Clearly this is the most serious takeover bid we've received, and if it had fallen flat then surely the buyers would have revealed this. It may not happen but it can't have failed yet.
  3. Is there any realistic chance that it'll be anyone other than Johnson? Honestly, I think the ship has sailed. No Deal Brexit + Johnson as Prime Minister. This is our country now.
  4. So this is basically a socialist echo chamber I mean, I guess that was obvious. Nice to see CT being as 'down the middle' as it's possible to be as well.
  5. Actually that's a good way of depicting it. My breakdown into 4 categories was: Socialist, Internationalist, Moderate, Progressive
  6. Political values test, 70 questions but only took 5 mins: https://8values.github.io/index.html I'm a Social Democrat apparently. https://8values.github.io/results.html?e=79.9&d=78.7&g=59.2&s=74.7
  7. We have a problem - Tory/BP electoral pact: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7148119/Tory-donors-secret-talks-Nigel-Farage-Conservative-Brexit-party-election-pact.html
  8. At some point the incoming owners should attempt to have a discussion with him, formalising some manner of provisional agreement. It's possible he's signed an NDA on the issue though. My guess is all the relevant information will come through simultaneously, more or less.
  9. I echo the cautious optimism. I think you said earlier that if all of this falls apart, Rafa goes and we're left with some Hughes esque chancer, you'll chuck it in - words to that effect anyway. That's broadly where I am. I can afford to be optimistic about this because if it does all go tits up, I think it'll finish off the last lingering parts of me that still care. So it's euphoria or apathy for me
  10. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/9300644/newcastle-takeover-sheikh-khaled-progressing-well/ Sun claims they're still on and trying to get it done by end of month. Aim to keep Rafa. Proof of funds were provided back in mid-April...
  11. Also useful God i hate this man.
  12. He did indeed. Despite having neoliberal (Thatcherite tendencies) Blair's New Labour did a lot of good. It's a real shame that after Brown, they failed to oppose austerity, which is now responsible for the deaths of 130,000 people.
  13. Good find. Will share that around a bit.
  14. I do get the impression that they only brought him along that time in order to get that record.
  15. Yeah but at this point I'm fairly sure that Ashley is willing to put up with considerable amounts of discomfort just to piss off the fanbase.
  16. I kind of admire the fact that a relatively understated player took that record but each to their own I guess.
  17. Went back and had a look myself - one thing I don't quite get... why does @Ant hate Miroslav Klose..?
  18. Aye but Villa had that coming. Glorious result that one
  19. Yeah I mean, 7-1 is right at the far end of 'acceptable within the professional game' for me. Probably because we beat Spurs 7-1 in the Keegan era. I remember us beating Sheff Wed 8-0 but that felt like something we needed to do as a club given the difficult period prior. If we'd beaten them 13-0 I'm not sure how I would have felt - I think after 5 or 6 it stops being as enjoyable. Although I think it might be different at club level compared to national level. If England had beaten San Marino 13-0 and celebrated every goal, I'm fairly sure I would have cringed. I mean I would have stopped watching at 7 or 8 anyway.
  20. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/jun/14/experience-i-killed-my-classmate-with-a-javelin The horror. I remember stories like this from sports day in school and it always made me really nervous about javelin throwing. Didn't really think it had actually happened..
  21. The Guardian is continuing to get wound up about people criticizing the US women's team for being over the top in celebrating all 13 goals scored past Thailand: https://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2019/jun/13/usa-celebrated-all-13-goals-thailand-france-2019-world-cup If this had been a men's team, what do we think? Germany eased off on Brazil when they were 5-0 up, out of a mixture of respect and probably fear of loss of life https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/worldcup2014/article-2686789/Mats-Hummels-says-Germany-pledge-half-time-not-humiliate-Brazil-World-Cup-semi-final.html Then again, maybe it shows considerable professionalism and enthusiasm for the game, to keep going.
  22. Ah ok, so he was sacked by West Brom over a year ago after 10 games without a win, leaving them bottom of the league. Hasn't worked since. It's fucking nailed on, this.
  23. What has Pardew even been doing for the last couple of years...
  24. Well, it was nice while it lasted. I'd love someone to come out and tell us -why- it failed. I mean we know why, but specifically what reason was given to the buyers.
