  1. Unwillingness isn't the same as outright refusal though. If it was the latter, surely the matter would be over by now. There must be a general sense that some compromise remains possible or it'd be over. It does rather feel like this meeting is going to define the next 5 years of our club though.
  2. Maybe they can split the difference and end up about something along the lines of the £80m they spunked away on McClaren.
  3. I will once I'm done with work, but surely that PM can point to the blind devotion to the cause of the Brexiteer masses as a teflon coating for the whole thing?
  4. I don't think these election results are going to make much difference for Remain tbh. May going means the Tories will see an opportunity to reform the line, as it were, and I think the line will be on No Deal.
  5. Why. What is the point in any of the rest of us trying to do anything, if people aren't going to make a basic level of effort.
  6. Every serious Remainer I know was out to vote today. Let's hope there's enough of us.
  7. Polling station completely empty at lunch time. Wonder what turnout will be...
  8. Does at least sound like it's £50m net on top of anything he gets for players like Perez. If this is all the club is prepared to do then so be it, but it's a more generous offer than I can recall seeing from them at any previous point, so it does at least suggest they're making some kind of effort. I'm still hopeful that he'll stay.
  9. Yeah but this is the fucking stupid thing about Labour, they're just hiding a decent chunk of Remainers.
  10. Well according to the poll above, which won't embed for some reason but is worth checking out, the answer is yes, it is making a difference: Final YouGov / Times European Election poll - Brexit party on 37% - Tories 5th in 7% - Labour now comfortably 6 points behind the Lib Dems - Lib Dem’s 3-1 taking votes from 2017 Lab supporters over Tories - Brexit party 65% Tory 13% Lab
  11. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/may/22/rafael-benitez-mike-ashley-newcastle-transfer-policy-salomon-rondon-juan-mata Any finalisation of an agreement is expected to be prefaced by Ashley meeting Benítez in person for a second time and providing written guarantees of all promises. While the owner is prepared to offer his manager a sizeable transfer budget – £50m plus any cash raised from player sales next season has been mentioned – Benítez would like increased freedom to sign players aged over 25 in addition to flexibility over the wage bill. Benítez had hoped to persuade Ashley to embark on a major overhaul of Newcastle’s training ground but seems prepared to compromise and postpone such a revamp.
  12. Even if it is, your vote going to the LDs instead of Labour sends a message to Labour leadership.
  13. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/may/22/uk-suffers-crushing-defeat-un-vote-chagos-islands Diminished on the world stage? You bet your ass we are.
  14. I'm also starting to feel that way. May now looks more like the last bastion of what passes for sanity in the Tory party.
  15. Leadsome has resigned. She'll be out of work for about 4 or 5 days - really brave move.
  16. Charnley's probably forgotten that he's meant to be dealing with this man, you have to give enough time for someone from Rafa's side to send a polite reminder or two before we'll see any real progress.
  17. Yeah but ewerk was trying to give you an 'out' for insinuating that anywhere that wasn't Western Europe was basically 'nowhere' If the country has teams playing in the Europa League then it seems reasonable that they should be allowed to host finals. Although I do feel that maybe variable final locations based on winning teams would be more appropriate, or that UEFA subsidise travelling fans.
  18. Any chance of a grand middle finger gesture when she does go?
  19. Seems like the Tories are concerned that if a second referendum goes through, Scotland gets another one. A counter to the 'break up of the UK' rhetoric? Or will the SNP try that on?
  20. But it means May could untangle a lot of this just by fessing up to what we already know. That Brexit is just a fucking shit thing for the country, and the only way she could try to deliver it, was by threatening and lying to people. The Brexiteers might actually give her some kudos for that.
  21. Richard Graham, a Tory, asks May if she agrees that a no-deal Brexit could lead to the break-up of the UK. May says she has serious concerns about this. ?!?! Where were those concerns 3 months ago when 'No Deal was better than a bad deal'???
  22. I think if he had been full on Remain, we wouldn't now be seeing Labour splitting the Remain vote - we'd be increasing the political legitimacy of a second referendum. My issue isn't so much that I think he could have changed very much (although I do accept Gemmill/Renton's point that Labour would be in a much better position to punish the Tories if they had made a stand, rather than implicating themselves in the inadequacy), but that he is now deliberately ignoring the will of his members.
