Do you know he isnt bothered by them? I dont. I know he wasnt bothered about the booing because I saw it with my own eyes. How do you know that when he read the paper with these quotes in he didnt think "FFS Fred not again, keep the gob shut". I personally dont think he'd be bothered about being called Mary Poppins but he might have had a problem with some of the other stuff. I dont know him personally so I cant answer. in the context of this you sum Fred up as being eccentric (big gob) but he backs his managers, you offer the alternative choice for chairman as being quiet but doesnt back his manager, that looks pretty frickin oppsoite to me easy question for you would you rather have A) fred exactly as he is now B) fred exactly as he is now but he doesnt make any public opinionated statements. Maybe if he modelled himself on say Arsenals chairman I know a new chairman could be worse, but he could also be better, theres no guarantees, but then Im not advocating a new chairman, I just want fred to shut up. Which is exactly, and plainly, what I said in my post. DO I want him to resign because of his OVERALL performance? Not sure tbh. Maybe some do. You've also got to realise to that if he were to resign as chairman he would still be a member of the board (until he chose otherwise) and the strategy of the club wouldnt nescessarilly change at all, in all liklehood it wouldnt unless someone bought Hall & Shepherd out. The only change would/could be the public figurehead of NUFC. Ive advocted many a time someone else in a DOF/CE role, mainly to act as a buffer between Fred and ..well..everything

Shearer thought it was hilarious. If anyone had the right to be embarrassed it was him. Stop trying to deflect the issue Leazes. That incident, along with the chants aimed at Ant n Dec, arent an issue anywhere but with you and the minority of like minded (alter) egos. Shepherds gob is an issue to the majority for a reason. He's on object of ridicule nationally for a reason. This isnt opinion its the way it is. If you dont have a problem with it then thats fine , most do. How typically ridiculous of you to offer the alternative to Shepherd as being the complete opposite. Why? Not one person has said Shepherd should resign for this, they're not mixing up the issue with his overall performance, which for some reason you keep doing. Why cant he just keep it shut. Its not a big ask, its not hard. I'd rather have the chairman that quietly went on with his job and backed his manager, is that unrealistic? That person could quite easilly be Shepherd
-
one of the people laughing was Shearer himself. Ive not heard one person take the piss over that incident, not one. Ive got plenty of non NUFC supporting friends too and the two man u ones in particular are quick to get a dig in when they can. They took the piss over the seven bells shit and I can guarantee come tomorrow there'll be emails waiting for me over this.
-
I dont think even Leazes could defend this. This spat was all over last week but then Shepherd has to start it up again. Another sly dig at Allardyce too ffs. Remember Fred he turned us down. Wonder why?
-
I could be wrong but I think its his brother Bruce who is considered to be the guy behind their success.
-
Definitely and although I might occasionally knock Shepherd at least he actually has a role at the club whether he's overpaid or not. I might bring up SJH but Im under no illusions as to why he got involved with NUFC. It wasnt as some benevolent benefactor who was going to see his boyhood team become the biggest in the world. It was all to do with money. Thats fine too as long as it doesnt get in the way of the football club. I always have this feeling that with Dougie and Shepherd they're a little too greedy, that they take the piss a bit with how much they actually take out and some of the decisions they make definitely get in the way.
-
course its not easy but like I said its the reason the guys at the top get paid the big bucks. I didnt think Dalglsih was the right man at that time but I also dont think he deserved to be sacked, if that makes sense. The reasons for Dalglishs dismissal werent born out of those two games though. No one with any sense makes a decision based on two games. If the doubts at board level were serious and strong enough to force his departure after two draws then they should have got rid in the summer. It would have been the best thing for the club. If they'd have kept him theres nothing to suggest out of those two games that we'd have done worse than the previous season. We werent in a desperate situation like you could say with Gullit and Souness. Robsons is a strange one because I believe if we hadnt got rid we'd have still done OK, a hell of a lot better than Souness. After deciding in the summer that he was going they should have either replaced him then or stuck with him. The worst option was the one they took. Some of our starts previously under Robson were much much worse and one, was it two seasons previous?, went on much longer. Again if you've decided after 2 or 3 games that things arent going to improve and a change is needed then why afford the manager those 2 or 3 games to begin with? In the past they've allowed the manager just enough time to hang himself before sacking him. Its all to do with PR and not whats best for NUFC.

agree completely and thats my point, theres no way after a couple of games you suddenly go from thinking you've got the right man for the job to deciding to sack him. Shepherd and the board msut have been thinking of changing manager before the season started. They should have had the courage and the foresight to make the decision(s) at the right time. The club has suffered because they didnt. I dont agree with the opinion to get rid after a shit start. If we'd done that Robson would have gone years before and there'd have been no night in Rotterdam.

Film/moving picture show you most recently watched

and by that do you mean shit? possibly the worst film Ive had the misfortune to watch. -
nice one. In the past Leazes you havent said that. When I posted soemthing saying Shepherd made a mistake in not getting rid of Souness earlier you made some condescending post about not understanding the financial implications etc. I even pointed out that I meant the summer before and not January but you'd backed yourself into a corner and refused to say that it was a mistake. I think most recognise where he has done well. On the financial side of things his record is good, but then he's the head of a team of people, just as he is on the football side too. I think you have to disassociate him from Hall. He hasnt performed as well but Hall didnt have the same challenges either. You've just take him in isolation and look at exactly what hes done. You've also got to remember that we were in that position before he took over. The clubs culture, relative ambition was already in place. Have the decisions he's made affected our performance on the pitch? The answer has to be yes. Apart from 3 years under Robson we've been pretty mediocre, and thats not because of my unreasonable demands, like I said top 6 for me is where we should be. The appointment of Robson was obviously a success but what if the timing was better, could those 3 have been a 4. What if the dismissal of Robson was better timed could that have been 5? This is just one aspect of his performance that I have a problem with, another is his gob. As far as the rest goes Im mostly happy I dont think he did have faith in those managers. He comes out of it better if you think of it that way than he would if you think he changed his mind in the space of a few weeks. I just think he's relucatnt to make the tough decisions because of how he'll be percieved. He's tended to wait until overwhelming public opinion forces him into action ( or backs him) rather than doing what he believes is best. Thats why it looks to me like he made an effort not to do that with Souness. Unfortunately that was the wrong decision. Right idea maybe but just wrong man. Looking at Robson if he thought we needed a change, which he obviously did after publically announcing it would be his last season, he should have done it that summer. If he'd stuck to his word even we'd have had a planned apppointment the following Summer. What we got was a reactionary sacking and regardless of who came in another transitionary season. We've had too many of those because of the timings. Its difficult, he's got to be thinking ahead of the game making pro active decisions but thats why he gets paid the big bucks and like the CEO of any multimillion pound corp he's going to live or die on the result of those decisions. Nope, no hard feelings and you're completely right , it was unnecessary
-
of course they do which is what I said at first and why the appointment of Robson cant be described as planned. To spell it out though. Do you think Shepherd had complete faith in Daglish and Robson, going into the seasons of their dismissals? If so what changed his mind a few weeks in? If it was 2 or 3 results was that reasonable? If he didnt have faith would it not have been better to do it in the summer? Does that constitute a planned appointment as opposed to a reactionary one? So if Im not happy I should fuck off eh? What did you say to people when they said they same thing when you were whinging about Souness? People have answered you before Leazes and its football has changed dramatically since the premiership and its pointless to compare our current situation with the past. We have(had? God knows how Chelsea compare now) the second highest turnover in the prem. Everton dont, Villa dont etc etc. funny becuase apart from Shepherd where you just refuse to even contemplate the fact the guy makes mistakes, eg was it a mistake to not get rid of Souness earlier?, we pretty much agree on most footballing matters. In regards to Bellamy and Souness I remember more 'good post's, and 'Well said' than 'naive deluded arsehole, that knows and understands fuck all'.
-
Well yes, but that's nearly always true of all managers. By planned I mean thought about in advance before the incumbent is released, not starting the search after the sacking. Which I believe is what has happened in the case of every manager since Ardilles, and is why we have ended up with managers like Souness. 138787 Thats a good idea. Lets go back to having a manager like Ardiles, seeing as you think Shepherd is a shit chairman like those we had back then. 138791 was he a shit leading board member back then though? 138796 thought you knew the backround of the club to support your views ? Obviously not. 138805 actually my bad. I always thought Shepherd was an existing board member when SJH was getting support for his takeover. Only a shareholder

tbf Ive read that post a million times so didnt need to read it but also seeing as I was only addressing the first bit it wasnt really nescessary. Thanks anyway. I dont think he was saying they have no idea to appoint, we all have a list in our heads for a start, Shepherd et al will be no different. Is that what constitutes a planned appointment then? Looka t the example of Benitez that was given. Thats a planned appointment not a REACTIONARY one which we have continuously done. Understand! Shepherd certainly hasnt had any faith in two of his managers leading into the seasons of their dismissal. If he did he's the most fickle bloke in the world to completely change his mind in the space of a couple of weeks I think you've misunderstood what Renton has been saying. tbh cant remember, I was actually living in Austria at the time which is why purposefully concentrated on Daglishs and Robsons dismissals. Cant say I myself was too hopeful though. Our average League postion under Shepherd is 9th. If theres only 4 teams better then fair enough but when we talked about this on NO you admitted it was a nonsense stat and quoted 5th most goals instead. Its news to me that this 5th best figure doesnt come from total prem points though, this is the first time out off ALL the times we've gone over this you've said it isnt. Just to maybe jog your memory Im Gibbon on NO. errmm Im not implying anything , like Ive said before you're the only one who's interested in quoting stats and putting some arbitrary figure on success. I actually made my view on what constitutes success very clear on NO. You refused to do the same , even after some baiting from Gemmill. They've been answered before Leazes, tbh no one can be arsed anymore, its boring. Football isnt the same as it was back then. You can think what you want of me and I'll keep thinking you're a senile old cunt, deal?

Ive read the first paragraph of that before you start getting into full rant and it actually has nothing to do with what afaik Renton is trying to say. No appointment when a manger is sacked early on in the season can be planned, by definition its a reaction. A reaction to results, to public opinion. If it was planned Robson would have replaced Gullit in the summer, just like when he himself and Souness after should have been replaced. Doing it a few games into a season like with Robson and Daglish is a serious cock up. Shepherd has this reputation and hes very aware of it which is one of the main reasons why Souness was kept around for so long imo. Shepherd desperately wanted to show that he wasnt the trigger happy chairman that people think he is. Got that one wrong too. Now to be fair to him its very difficult and you're definitely damned of you do and damned if you dont. However he is the man at the top and he gets the big bucks to get these decisions right and so far his record , timing wise ..nevermind trophy winning managers etc, is pretty appalling, they could certainly have been planned better. just read the rest Leazes, wtf has all that shite got to do with what Renton has been talking about. Still sticking to your 5th best over the last decade crap then eh, even after you admitted it was a bollocks stat over on NO. Again its 5th highest total premiership points since the premiership began , pretty meaningless and actually more than a decade. I have no idea where we stand over the last decade but if you want work it all out let us know. Just out of curiousity though, if West Ham had won the FA cup would that mean they have been more successfull than us over the last decade or not?

more to do with the timing as opposed to any real thought process on suitability. As you've put Lazarus, on the surface it looks very reactionary too.

Glory Road - Story of the first all black basketball team to win the NCAA championship. Fairly cliche, seen it a million times before etc but still enjoyable. -
cant get past Thom Yorkes voice, grates on me. Out of what Ive heard Kid A was the most interesting

what were they ? 137709 basically accused the ref of being in Barcas pocket and said he should learn to dive, but he wouldnt because he's not a woman. Im sure Pires was looking a bit sheepish off camera

Chairman Responds To Latest LMA Comments
luckypierre replied to Scottish Mag's topic in Newcastle Forum
Its not a case of backing anyone. Tbh I couldnt care less what Barnwewll does. Shepherd on the other hand is the public figurehead of NUFC and shouldnt be getting into little public slanging matches, but he does, all the time, he just cant keep his fat gob shut and thats the embarrasing part. Whether its in regards to Bellamy, Shearer, the journal last week and now this. There shouldnt be a public spat because Shepherd should be professional enough to not pass comment. Roeder actually had the moral highground over all this by not saying anything In exactly the same way I'd be embarrased about Allardyce recently with regards to England and Roeder if I was a Bolton fan -
Chairman Responds To Latest LMA Comments
luckypierre replied to Scottish Mag's topic in Newcastle Forum
Im not too sure whats disgraceful about Barnwells attitude is and I certainly have no clue as to what being a geordie has to do with it either. All he's done is , and more than likely in response to direct questions from the press, is point out the LMAs view on Roeders (potential) appointment. I dont see what the issue was, we knew it was against the rules and sought dispensation, which we got. Its Shepherd who's dragged this into a public slagging match, not Barnwell. He even had a sly dig at Allardyce, was there any need? Should Allardyce bite back like Shepherd and point out why he turned us down last time? As the public figurehead of NUFC he should have a bit more about him than dropping sly digs about people into public statements, it is embarrassing and its unprofessional. It shouldnt have to stop now, it shouldnt have started -
for a one liner Ive always liked "I'm sure you hate me but I've been hated by the best" - Side by Side For a whole song theres only one winner I got something to say I killed your baby today And it doesn't matter much to me As long as it's dead Well I got something to say I raped your mother today And it doesn't matter much to me As long as she's spread Sweet lovely death I am waiting for your breath Come sweet death, one last caress Our lass kicks off if I even whistle the tune

Yes, overall, but I feel that he played on too long. The last couple of years in particular he's been a shadow of his former self. There is no room for sentiment and if, for example, he'd gone to Man Utd, he'd have been peddled years ago. Quite possibly to us. 135259 I agree, but the trouble is the shadow of his former self has proved to be more effective than any of our other options. 135288 do you not think it was a self perpetuating problem though Renton? If the majority of support, the chairman/board and local press continue to think that you still have a top class striker, regardless of his actual performances, why would you look to replace him? Our other options were all support strikers, players who would play alongside Shearer or as an understudy. We never invested, until Owen, in another out and out goal scorer 135294 I see your point but personally I think he only stayed on one year too long. You say the other strikers are supporting strikers but why should this be? Fact is they have in the main been poor, and the only decent one we flogged for peanuts. Anyway, I think Shearer had a positive influence on the team. With him gone, I expect results to suffer, unless we buy another top notch striker of course. The thought of Ameobi and Chopra fills me with dread tbh. 135297 I think as number 1 striker he stayed on 3 years too long and he should have retired 2 seasons ago if he really wanted to go out on top. The reast of them were supporting strikers because thats the way we set out, the team was focused on getting chances for Shearer to score. Bellamys own goal scoring suffered imo becuase of this ( yes he would have scored more too if his finishing was better before anyone says so but the point was his job was in support of Shearer who was the focal point of the teams play). He said himself that he'd have more chances to score if he didnt play as Shearers legs, but thats the system the team employed under Robson. When Shearers lack of mobility started to really have an effect Robson looked to change it around and we all know what happened. To excuse his poor return just because others didnt do better is just that imo , an excuse. Ameobi has been poor but do you think if he was good enough he would have knocked Shearer out of the team? Theres no way. Even last season when the obvious best pairing was Kluivert and Bellamy. Shearer played, even when we were told his sluggish displays were down to carrying an injury, he still played regardless. To get a suitable replacemet you have to first look for one, we didnt. The thought of Amebi and Chopra fills me with dread too but theres no way we'll start next season without a new striker.
