If Shearer gets assurances and stays on I hope he gets it all in a watertight contract along with many witnesses I liked the way Shearer handled his appointment. Forcing the public declaration that Wise was out before allowing himself to be named shows he has the measure of the men in charge. Getting a similar announcement on exactly what range of control he'll be given at the club when he stays should be enough to keep him happy on that score. There can't really be anything but a discussion between them on how much backing (financial and personal) he'll get if he does take the job though...and it's on that score that I worry about Ashley.

Had a heated debate with one of the lads on the metro home last night about whether Shearer's staying or not should we stay up. I think the win had bouyed him to insanely optimistic levels but he was adamant that Ashley will keep Shearer and give him everything he needs to do the job. I was incredulous in the faith he had in Ashley. Is it possible that Ashley has learned anything from this monumental fuck up of a season?

The whole running to the crowd after he scored/fist pumping at the final whistle that everyone is loving is exactly what people on here slated him for last season Bollocks. I only criticise him for doing that sort of thing when he's played woeful which has been often. Credit where it's due. He played well enough to warrant lapping up the applause last night.

More than a way to go, we could have lost that 1-4 and the overall game not have been all that different. Not good, especially bearing in mind who we were playing and how they've been this season. Another summer like the last one (or just 1/2 as bad) and we'll be breaking Derby's record next season (assuming we do stay up this season). I'm pleased someone has had the presence of mind to attempt to piss all over any joy anyone might be having from this rare and exciting victory. Well played fop. Reality is still reality. They had a few chances on the break but I thought we thoroughly deserved the 3 points. Not least because we took our chances. They weren't unlucky, they couldn't convert the odd chance they had. That's what football in general and high pressure matches like last night are all about. Like I said the match wouldn't have been much different but the score and result could well have been. We played a rubbish team at home, and the score and maybe result probably flattered us. We avoided near certain relegation and got our 7th win, but that's about it. Hopefully we've got confidence from it and that will help, but a better team with more finishing quality (or a bit more luck), as the remaining games probably are and.... It's only fair that we get to play the shit teams as well as the good ones mate. Lot's of teams would say the same as you about their performances against us....like Portsmouth a couple of weeks back.
