  1. A serious question - not an attempted "wind up"!, Do you have a source for anyone (let alone "so many") saying Shearer will be 'great'TM?
  2. It's ridiculous how long these heap of shit, no substance, popcorn blockbusters are getting. It's incomprehensible to me that they've made Transformers 2 even longer than the first one...150 bastarding tedious minutes. I would have preferred to be waterboarded for the length of the first film...but at least they had an excuse then. They could claim the backstory had to be told....though it wasn't. Certainly not looking forward to the 153 minutes long Half Blood Prince if it doesn't return to the form of Prisoner of Azkaban.
  3. Followed it up with Prisoner of Azkaban (which was the best so far) and Goblet of Fire which was the worst with too much time dedicated to the prom and an ill defined contest that sees Voldermort (supposedly the scariest mo fo ever) and his monumental return relegated to a B story played out in the last few scenes. Wathed The Order of The Phoenix last week too and I'm struggling to remember what went on. a rambling mess of a film. The acting from the kids is a lot better, but it added very little that we didn't know at the end of the last film. two and a half hours to perpetuate the status quo. Hopefully the next one will be more dynamic shifting.
  4. My company has blocked the first one (apparently) cos it's porn. What is it? 2001 is as great as they say....never saw it until I had it explained to me though. Never a big fan of LA confidential myself either. Agree Lawrence of Arabia (and Doctor Zhivago) is David Lean at his most egotistic, far prefer Bridge over the River Kwai, Hobson's Choice and Oliver Twist. Still haven't seen Great Expectations though. ....and I couldn't get through The Third Man.
  5. The democrats are pussies and want to get their shit together. How come the Republicans can rewrite the laws of the land and face down torrents of vehement criticism but these numbskulls look shaky trying vote a bill through that has the most overwhelming support across the board since someone said "maybe this prohibition thing needs a second look".
  6. That's basically what I said on here when I saw Death in Venice. Utter turd. But then he gives Come and See too much credit. I think that's another one that doesn't get the criticism it deserves, even though the central performance is amazing. Source
  7. Philip Glass - Mad Rush Took my breath away. Literally. Never had that happen before. Just sitting with the headphones on and started gulping for air. Gorgeous.
  8. Remember when you had to play a tape for 20 minutes if you wanted a game of Horace Goes Skiing?
  9. Good excuse for re-posting....
  10. "I'd have given my right arm to be a pianist!"
  11. Thought it was class like. Then again I'm a bit biased, but really enjoyed it as it showed me a lot of insight which I certainly hadn't seen before. Class soundtrack as well. BBC2 10.35pm
  12. would it have killed the club to do this for free, not like its a 'normal' event I think they are doing it for free. It's the police, ambulance drivers and that who aren't.

  16. Why do we celebrate the first man on the moon with such passion...and not the first man in space? Did Yuri Gagarin and the Soviet Space Program get all this BBC sponsored fanfare for their 40th anniversary back in 2001? I don't think I've seen a film or TV show on the subject. I'd love to if anyone has any suggestions though.

  18. Investigators used an informant to approach a group of rabbis from the Syrian Jewish community in Brooklyn and the New Jersey borough of Deal for help hiding his assets. The rabbis cashed cheques he made out to charities they oversaw and paid the money back to him, minus a cut, investigators say. The probe then widened to include alleged official corruption with links to a New Jersey construction boom. The informant was introduced to a series of politicians and powerful local officials. Posing as a developer, he offered bribes to return for favourable treatment. State legislators Harvey Smith and Daniel Van Pelt were arrested, as well as the mayors of some of the state's major cities and boroughs. A number of city building, planning and fire inspectors were also held. Mr Marra said: "It seemed that everyone wanted a piece of the action. The corruption was widespread and pervasive. Corruption was a way of life for the accused." He said politicians had "willingly put themselves up for sale" and clergymen had "cloaked their extensive criminal activity behind a facade of rectitude". 'Misunderstanding' The BBC's Jane O'Brien says the money laundering ring reportedly spanned the US, Israel and Switzerland. Jon Corzine, the Governor of New Jersey, said: "The scale of corruption we're seeing as this unfolds is simply outrageous and cannot be tolerated." Ed Kahrer, an FBI agent who has worked on the investigation from the start, said: "New Jersey's corruption problem is one of the worst, if not the worst, in the nation. "It has become ingrained in New Jersey's political culture," he said. Another FBI agent said: "The list of people we arrested sounds like it should be the roster for a meeting of community leaders, but sadly they weren't meeting in a boardroom this morning, they were in the FBI booking room." Most of those arrested have been released on bail. Hoboken Mayor Peter Cammarano was accused of taking a bribe. His lawyer said he intended to fight the charge "with all his strength until he proves his innocence". A lawyer for 87-year-old Rabbi Saul Kassin of Brooklyn said it was a shame his client had been "caught up in this misunderstanding". Correspondents say the number of people arrested is large even by New Jersey standards, where more than 130 public officials have either admitted to corruption or been found guilty of it since 2001. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8165607.stm You woke up this morning, got yourself a gun...
  19. I went in to get a beach towel* for my holibobs yesterday and it was a gherst toon considering it's new strip day. *If you want one don't pay £15 for the current ones, you can get them for a fiver in the sale at the other end of the store.
  20. Jason Alexander can't curb his enthusiasm for the makeshift Seinfeld reunion coming up on Curb Your Enthusiasm. The Seinfeld fab four -- Alexander (who played George), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Elaine), Michael Richards (Kramer) and Jerry Seinfeld, who played a version of himself -- will be together again this fall on Seinfeld co-creator Larry David's series Curb Your Enthusiasm. "Other than the DVD stuff or doing an Oprah kind of thing, no, we haven't been together since Seinfeld went off the air," Alexander said. "It's fun. "Larry, it was all Larry. Larry had this idea, and I guess he posed it to Jerry, and Jerry said, 'I will if they will.' And we all kind of came together." David plays a fictionalized version of himself on Curb Your Enthusiasm, and the Seinfeld fab four will do the same. For example, the Jason Alexander who is on Curb is not married, whereas the real-life Jason Alexander has been married for almost three decades. "Also, the Jason on Curb feels differently about the Seinfeld show and about Larry David than the real Jason," Alexander said. "The Curb Jason is a little more hostile, to put it in a nutshell."
